AN OVERVIEW OF THIS ROLE As an Engineering Manager, Observability, Monitoring, and Integrations (Monetization), you'll manage a team focused on observability, reliability, and secure cross-system integrations across GitLab's Monetization area. This is a people-first management role where you'll hire and develop the team, guide technical direction, and help shape an AI-native approach to detecting anomalies and improving performance in business-critical workflows. You'll work closely with product, design, sales, go-to-market, finance, information technology, and support engineering to turn business needs into reliable customer experiences. In your first year, you'll stand up the team, establish operating rhythms and incident response practices, and improve the reliability, availability, and data quality of fulfillment systems that directly affect revenue and the customer experience. Some examples of our projects: * Improving the reliability and availability of Fulfillment infrastructure and customer-facing buyer journeys * Making foundational improvements to the architecture and data models of Fulfillment systems * Delivering high-impact changes across pricing, billing, provisioning, subscriptions, and usage-related experiences WHAT YOU’LL DO * Architect end-to-end telemetry and observability across CustomersDot, Salesforce, and Zuora to enable real-time monitoring and faster issue resolution across purchasing and provisioning flows. * Implement automated billing anomaly detection to identify event drops, abuse spikes, and transactional discrepancies that affect reconciliation and financial integrity. * Define the integration strategy between customer-facing monetization services and enterprise applications, including Salesforce and Workato, with a focus on durable API contracts and reliable financial workflows. * Drive an AI-native engineering approach that uses machine learning and AI-enabled tooling to surface anomalies, improve infrastructure operations, and inform delivery planning. * Hire and grow a high-performing team, setting expectations for ownership, quality, and collaboration from the ground up. * Guide architecture and implementation discussions, helping the team make sound tradeoffs across reliability, availability, data model quality, and developer experience. * Partner with cross-functional stakeholders across engineering, product, finance, customer service, and go-to-market teams to coordinate changes in revenue-impacting systems with care and clarity. * Establish incident management practices, rollout safeguards, and operational standards for systems handling customer-facing and financially critical workflows. WHAT YOU’LL BRING * Experience managing product, platform, or development teams and building values-aligned environments where team members can grow and deliver meaningful results. * Strong technical judgment across architecture, system design, and pragmatic delivery for complex integrations and business-critical workflows. * Experience working on purchasing, billing, provisioning, subscription, commerce, or other revenue-impacting systems. * Knowledge of observability-first architectures, including tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, and modern incident management tooling. * Experience defining service level indicators and targets, writing runbooks, and coordinating incident management in operationally rigorous environments. * Strong collaboration and written communication skills in asynchronous, handbook-first teams that work across engineering, product, finance, customer service, and go-to-market functions. * Ability to translate complex technical and product issues into clear, actionable language for both technical and non-technical audiences. * Sound judgment when handling confidential or financial information, customer-facing incidents, and changes that can affect revenue, with openness to transferable experience from related domains. ABOUT THE TEAM The Fulfillment team builds and operates the infrastructure behind GitLab's purchasing workflows, and we partner closely with sales, finance, information technology, and support to deliver secure, reliable buyer experiences. Within the broader Monetization section, we focus on the systems and integrations that connect billing, provisioning, subscriptions, and usage across multiple platforms. You’ll serve as a technical anchor for the team, working closely with your engineering manager, product manager, and partners across Site Reliability Engineering, Release, Security, and Development to shape cloud-native, operator-driven deployment patterns that reduce operational complexity and upgrade friction. In your first year, you’ll help define the architecture for zero-downtime upgrades, strengthen observability and reliability practices, and guide the next generation of deployment automation for self-managed GitLab environments. Some examples of our projects: * Evolving GitLab Operator and Helm charts to support zero-downtime upgrades for complex, stateful GitLab installations * Advancing the GitLab Environment Toolkit to simplify large-scale, production-ready self-managed deployments WHAT YOU’LL DO * Guide the technical vision and architecture for GitLab’s cloud-native, self-managed deployments and upgrade workflows. * Establish operational maturity standards, service integration patterns, and deployment models that help development teams manage the lifecycle of their components. * Design and maintain Kubernetes Operators, Helm charts, and upgrade orchestration tooling for self-managed GitLab deployments across varied environments. * Develop automation and integration frameworks for database migrations, rolling deployments, compatibility checks, and rollback paths. * Define database and application lifecycle strategies, including safe PostgreSQL migration approaches and validation mechanisms that reduce downtime risk. * Work with Product Management, GitLab.com Site Reliability Engineering, GitLab Dedicated, and development teams to align deployment patterns with customer needs. * Mentor engineers and enable customer-facing teams through design reviews, code reviews, documentation, and runbooks. * Drive observability, testing, performance, and resilience practices for self-managed deployments, and contribute to incident response and post-incident learning. WHAT YOU’LL BRING * Strong software engineering experience designing and delivering production systems that customers install and operate in their own infrastructure. * Proficiency in Go for large, complex codebases, with familiarity with Ruby on Rails and Rails application architecture as a useful addition. * Hands-on experience with Kubernetes in production, including building and maintaining Operators, designing Helm charts for stateful applications, and working with Custom Resource Definitions, admission controllers, and controller patterns. * Knowledge of cloud-native systems and tooling, such as service mesh, observability stacks, infrastructure as code, and automation tools like Terraform or Ansible. * Experience with stateful workloads and databases, including PostgreSQL schema design and migrations, persistent volumes, storage classes, and approaches for reducing downtime during upgrades. * Understanding of Linux systems and production operations, including package management, systemd, system-level debugging, observability, incident response, and on-call participation. * Ability to guide through influence, including writing clear technical proposals, documenting decisions, mentoring engineers, and working effectively across teams. * Interest in open source infrastructure or deployment tooling, or transferable experience from adjacent domains, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to different audiences. ABOUT THE TEAM The Delivery - Upgrades team sits within GitLab Delivery and focuses on delivering GitLab to self-managed users through supported, validated deployment tooling. We own and evolve the GitLab Omnibus package, Helm charts, GitLab Operator, and the GitLab Environment Toolkit, and we work asynchronously across regions with partners in Site Reliability Engineering, Release, Security, and Development. The ideal candidate will have deep domain expertise in the fraud and identity space, a proven track record of shipping successful B2B SaaS products, and a relentless passion for solving complex customer problems What you’ll be doing * Own the Product Vision & Strategy: Define and evangelize a clear, compelling vision and multi-year strategy for the Device Intelligence and Behavioral Biometrics product lines, aligning with Bureau's mission and international growth objectives. * Drive the Product Roadmap: Develop and manage a prioritized roadmap that balances innovation, competitive differentiation, customer needs, and strategic business goals. What You’ll Bring * Minimum of ideally 6-10 years of hands-on product management experience in a B2B SaaS environment. What matters more than years of experience is the ability to operate at a Group Product Manager level, driving strategy, influencing stakeholders, and delivering outcomes through strong product leadership. * Experience building and owning technical B2B products such as APIs, SDKs, data platforms, risk engines, decisioning systems, or developer-facing SaaS products. * Strong understanding of integration design and developer experience, including documentation, sandbox environments, versioning, backward compatibility, data contracts, and implementation workflows. * Ability to work deeply with Engineering and Data Science teams on technical trade-offs around latency, reliability, scalability, security, and ease of customer adoption. * Proven ability to simplify complex technical products into seamless customer implementation journeys, reducing integration effort while improving product adoption and long-term scalability. * Experience building products in device fingerprinting, behavioral biometrics, account takeover (ATO) prevention, or closely related fraud detection technologies. You must be fluent in the language of modern fraud prevention. * Strong analytical skills and a data-driven mindset are essential for success in this role. Given the nature of risk and fraud products, you must be comfortable working with large data, defining metrics, identifying patterns and anomalies, and using data to drive product decisions. Experience in Machine Learning models is a plus.
