As an Asian Art & Antiques Expert, you will help grow and strengthen Catawiki’s Asian Art & Antiques category, with a primary
focus on Japanese Art & Antiques. By combining specialist knowledge, commercial awareness and strong seller relationships, you
will curate high-quality auctions that attract buyers and deliver a trusted auction experience.
You will contribute to category growth by identifying new supply opportunities, supporting sellers, developing auction concepts

YOUR MISSION Asian & Tribal is one of the most culturally rich and commercially complex categories within Collectables. It spans Asian Art, Tribal & Ethnographic Art, and related subcategories where heritage, craftsmanship, provenance, and collector trust are critical. The category attracts a diverse global buyer base ranging from emerging collectors to highly specialised, repeat buyers, and requires strong judgement, commercial sharpness, and leadership to balance growth with quality. As Category Manager, you treat Asian & Tribal as a high-potential business with depth and long-term upside. You own the category strategy, drive sustainable growth, and translate data into clear execution. You lead and develop a team of experts, build strong external networks with sellers and institutions, and ensure a high-quality buyer experience that reinforces trust and repeat engagement. This role is based in the Netherlands with a hybrid setup. You are expected to work from the Amsterdam office two days per week to collaborate closely with other Category Managers, Commercial teams, and key stakeholders. The Role... Reporting to the Director of HSS UK, Europe and Asia, this role is a subject matter expert and will be responsible for providing health and safety, fire safety, and food safety support and advice across our London sites with occasional travel to Houses outside of London. Following our internal safety management systems, policies, and training programmes, you will also work with the UK HSS team to create and give feedback on new HSS initiatives, campaigns, policies, and play an important part in driving standards of excellence. The role will positively drive and improve safety culture within the business, leading by example. *This is 10 Month Maternity cover contract* Key Accountabilities... * Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive health and safety policies in line with UK legislation (e.g. Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, COSHH, RIDDOR, etc. and Approved Codes of Practices). * Investigate all health, fire, and food safety accidents, incidents, and near misses, ensuring these are recorded and processed in line with company procedures in a timely manner, and implement change where possible to prevent recurrence. * Create and review company risk assessments for all work equipment and operations in the business as required, and ensure safe systems of work are in place, including completion of COSHH risk assessments. * Conduct internal H&S, food safety, and fire safety audits and report on performance to management teams on site, to provide a safe environment for our employees, members, and customers. * Liaise with General Managers and Safety and Operation Managers to ensure statutory compliance is always achieved in all sites, and ensure structured plans and processes are in place to maintain high standards. * Ensure compliance documentation for equipment and structure are maintained and available for inspection when required. * Assist with periodic delivery of safety related training to drive a culture of continuous improvement and high standards, as well as helping in the development of safety related training materials. Experience Required... * NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent (required). * Pool Plant Operator Advanced Course (desirable). * Qualified to minimum Level 3 or 4 in Food Safety (desirable). * Minimum of three years’ experience managing occupational health and safety and risk management in similar environment and ability to influence and lead a H&S culture. * Auditing skills and experience of management systems. * Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills and be able to produce concise reports and action plans. * Be proactive, have good organisational skills, and work independently as well as part of a team. * Have the ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with internal and external stakeholders at all levels. * Be engaging and can build trust and influence a positive safety culture.
