Strength and Durability Analysis Engineer, Suspension
What we offer
Durability, part of Safety Centre, secure safety over time in our future cars. It is
however much more than that – it is to support design engineering and in close
collaboration ensure that we together fulfill Volvo Cars' ambition that we should
provide freedom to move in a personal, sustainable and safe way. For this we
need team members who know how to perform physical strength and durability
tests, analyze test results/data and give recommendations to support the
development of new technical solutions.

The Side & Roof department within R&D at Volvo Cars is responsible for the development of complete doors and roof structures for all Volvo cars. Development work is mainly conducted within the department and in close corporation with manufacturing, design, suppliers, and external partners.
In this role at Side & Roof you will be a part of a small team of two CAE engineers where you support the development of complete doors and glass during all the industrialization phases, from concept phase to post-production. You will support cross-functional collaborations with designers and engineers to deliver our products with the desired performances within the specified deadlines. Together with concerned stakeholders you will recommend product solutions that fulfil all the legal and attribute (safety, durability, NVH, corrosion, weight) demands.
The main responsibility of your role is to perform finite element analysis for a wide variety of load cases. You will be performing safety, durability, NVH and optimization analysis in LS-Dyna, Abaqus as well as Nastran. Your aim is to find the best cross-functional solution. You will be working closely with architects and designers in a creative environment with concept evaluations, advanced engineering, and other studies.
In addition to this, you are expected to lead the collaborative efforts between Side & Roof and its stakeholders as it relates to CAE. Leading meetings, documenting results, ensuring progress and connecting people are a few examples of your daily tasks. You are also expected to be proactive and identify areas where your CAE toolkit can be utilized to support the department.
You have an M.Sc. or B.Sc. in a relevant area and a fundamental understanding of structural mechanics and CAE simulations (Safety,Durability or NVH) with experience as a simulation analyst. It is meritorious if you have experience in the pre- and post-processors Ansa and Meta as well as the solvers LS-Dyna, Abaqus or Nastran. Since our products are made of everything from metals to plastics to glass, it is also meritorious if you have experience performing FE simulations of these materials.
You are a quick learner and have a passion for problem solving. You are required to be able to work independently and proactively as well as being a good collaborator and team member.
Our Vehicle Dynamics Industrialization Team is responsible for all industrialization, verification, and support activities related to dynamic attributes. We perform physical testing on prototype vehicles, carry out subjective and objective evaluations of ride, handling, and steering, and work closely with attribute and design teams. This creates a dynamic, collaborative environment with a direct and meaningful impact on the future of Volvo cars.
You will play a central role in developing the driving experience of future Volvo vehicles. You will plan and execute physical development activities on prototype vehicles, perform deep analysis of results, and provide clear, data‑driven recommendations for design changes.
Your expertise will directly shape how our cars feel on the road—ensuring they meet Volvo’s high standards in ride comfort, steering feel, and handling precision.
