THE ROLE The individual in this Cataloguer role will contribute to the research, cataloguing, valuation, and sale of European paintings dating from the late 13th through the 19th centuries. As a key member of the department, the successful candidate will combine scholarly expertise with commercial awareness, playing an important role in the identification, assessment, and presentation of works for sale. Working closely with senior specialists, the Cataloguer will be responsible for researching and cataloguing property to the highest scholarly standards, supporting valuations, and contributing to business development initiatives. The role will involve direct interaction with clients, collectors, and external experts, requiring strong communication skills and the ability to represent the department confidently and professionally. The Cataloguer will play an integral role throughout the sale cycle, from property evaluation and catalogue production through to pre-sale client engagement and auction execution. As such, the successful candidate will contribute to the delivery of world-class auctions while maintaining the highest standards of connoisseurship, accuracy, and client service. This position requires a highly organized and collaborative individual who can manage multiple priorities, exercise sound judgment, and thrive in a fast-paced and team environment. The role is based in London and requires regular on-site presence. RESPONSIBILITIES Cataloguing and Research * Conduct scholarly research and prepare catalogue entries for Old Master Paintings sales, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and adherence to departmental standards. * Research provenance, literature, exhibition history, and attribution using a wide range of archival, institutional and published sources for a large volume of paintings. * Maintain an organised and easily accessible research file for each and every painting and project. * Maintain active correspondence with external scholars, conservators, and others to support cataloguing and attribution research. * Manage and follow up on outstanding research enquiries in a timely manner. * Prepare detailed and accurate condition reports for works offered for sale. * Research paintings and prepare relevant summary notes for each work ahead of weekly pricing meetings. Sale Coordination and Execution * Support the planning and execution of auctions and private sales within the department, with a particular focus on the Day and Mid-season sales. * Manage catalogue production processes, including proofreading, image review, colour checking, and coordination with internal stakeholders. * Assist with lot order recommendations, sale strategy discussions, and object presentation. * Contribute to the development of marketing materials, editorial content, and digital initiatives * Assist with exhibition planning, installation, and layout during previews and sale events. * Support bidder outreach initiatives ahead of each sale. Client Service and Business Development * Deliver exceptional client service in response to estimate requests, valuation enquiries, catalogue queries, and image requests. * Build and maintain relationships with collectors, dealers, advisors, museums, and others in the Old Master market. * Respond professionally and efficiently to client enquiries received in person, by telephone, email, and through online platforms. * Support senior specialists in sourcing property, preparing valuation proposals, and developing business opportunities for auction, private sale, fair market, and insurance purposes. SKILLS, EXPERIENCE, AND QUALIFICATIONS Required * Bachelor's degree in Art History or a closely related field. * Demonstrated academic and practical experience in Old Master Paintings. * Excellent research, analytical, and writing skills, with exceptional attention to detail. * Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment. * Strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to delivering outstanding client service. * Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment. * High levels of professionalism, integrity, discretion, and sound judgement. * A self-motivated, proactive, and solution-oriented person. Under general supervision the Associate Producer will support the production team with various projects. Their duties include basic assistance with day-to-day tasks, ensuring smooth execution of projects. Collaborating with hosts, producers, directors and production team. The role varies from project to project including but not limited to logistics, research, asset gathering and production support, for on studio and field shoots. Responsibilities: * Collaborate with the production team during all phases of production, including pre-, and post-production, to ensure seamless project execution. * Assist in gathering and organizing assets, such as video footage, photographs, and audio recordings, required for various editing and production projects. * Provide on-set support by managing equipment, coordinating with crew members, and addressing day-to-day production needs to maintain efficiency. * Conduct in-depth research to support script development, generate story ideas, and meet project requirements. * Identify and source relevant materials, such as archival footage, images, and reference content, to enhance creative projects. * Prepare and present materials, research findings, and background information to support the production team in creative decision-making. * Maintain a detailed inventory and tracking system for all project assets, ensuring accurate reporting of materials used to align with project budgets. * Assist in verifying and organizing production documents, including release forms, permits, and agreements, to ensure compliance and completeness. * Develop and maintain a structured filing system to streamline document retrieval and organization for future use. * Serve as a key liaison between the crew and production management during filming or recording sessions, facilitating clear communication and resolving issues promptly. * Organize, label, and ingest daily shoot footage, ensuring all materials are accounted for and coordinating with the editing team to confirm completeness. * Provide hands-on support during production to address technical, logistical, or operational needs, ensuring smooth workflows and minimizing disruptions. * Monitor and maintain an inventory of equipment and supplies, promptly addressing shortages or repairs to avoid production delays. * Perform other duties as assigned. Join the Missouri Botanical Garden’s initiative to Revolutionize Species Identification. This transformative initiative will digitize the Garden’s extensive herbarium collection, while using these data to create artificial intelligence models to automatically identify plant species. This initiative will make critical data and tools available to scientists, conservationists, and policymakers around the globe, thereby helping address the biodiversity crisis. Summary: This is a multi-year position dependent on restricted funding and project duration that will take and database hyperspectral scans of specimens in the Herbarium at the Missouri Botanical Garden. With nearly 8 million specimens of preserved plants, the MBG Herbarium is one of the largest and most active research collections in the world and serves as a core resource for the Garden’s Science and Conservation Division. The successful candidate for this position will join a dedicated team of scientists and support staff in the Herbarium to produce high-quality specimen data to serve urgent global needs in research, conservation, land management, and policymaking. In addition, staff hired in this position will participate in a curatorial mentorship program, attending workshops held by other Garden staff on botanical taxonomy, nomenclature, specimen curation, and collection management to develop their Herbarium skills and knowledge. This role requires excellent attention to detail, time management, interpersonal skills, a thoughtful and collaborative approach to problem solving, and a deep passion for plants. Initial core duties include pulling specimens, taking hyperspectral scans and associated metadata, data quality assurance (QA), and specimen filing. As part of the curatorial mentorship program, duties will expand to include becoming familiar with the taxonomic literature of one or more target plant families, updating scientific names on specimens according to recent taxonomic treatments, identifying specimens, and improving the accuracy of the physical collection and its associated digital records. The earliest start date for this position is August 10, 2026. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: • Pulls, takes hyperspectral scans, ensures data quality, and refiles specimens in coordination with other Herbarium and research staff to ensure timely completion of grant deliverables with minimum interruption to other Herbarium activities. • Saves hyperspectral scans to a Missouri Botanical Garden server. • Engages in careful and efficient quality control checks to ensure the highest standards in hyperspectral data quality.• Works with Hyperspectral Scanning Supervisor and Curator of Biodiversity Data to develop and test workflows to optimize scanning efficiency and improve data quality. • Attends curatorial mentorship workshops, lectures, and other events to grow capacity in taxonomy and Herbarium curation. • Files specimens, updates scientific names, reads taxonomic literature, and identifies plant collections in one or more target families (developed over time as part of the curatorial mentorship program). • Ensures that all applicable safety standards are followed to reduce hazards. • Reports all accidents, injuries and near-miss accidents immediately. • Follows and adheres to established policies and procedures, including but not limited to Employee Handbook, Garden Safety Guidelines and Department Policies. • Behaves and communicates in a manner that promotes and fosters a culture of teamwork and cooperation, within our division and throughout the Garden, with co- workers, supervisors/managers, volunteers, visitors and employees. • Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications/Experience: • One to three years of related experience in general data entry, preferably in the context of herbaria or other research collections. • Basic knowledge of scientific data collection, metadata capture, and archival file storage, desired. • Basic knowledge of botanical terminology is strongly desired.• Excellent typing skills and data entry skills.
