We’re looking for an experienced Electronics and/or Software Engineer keen to help our clients solve complex technical
challenges. You’ll need to be eager to turn your hand to a lot of different tasks and enjoy constantly learning new things. In
return we can offer the chance to tackle some of the hardest engineering problems around, such as novel applications of
robotics, collaborating with LEGO® to develop LEGO® SMART Play™ and other embedded products, as well as defence and national
security projects such as pioneering AI cyberattack response for the UK military.
Cambridge Consultants undertakes over 300 technology, design and consulting projects every year. You will get to work across the
broad range of markets, from Consumer Devices to Industrial Systems to Defence and National Security. The Electronics and Software
group is a cohesive team of multi-disciplinary experts in everything to do with embedded systems and devices – whether that’s
electronics, embedded software, physics, control, communications, security or algorithm design.
We’re looking for people with relevant previous experience to help widen our group’s skillset and support our junior engineers. We
need people who are enthusiastic about learning, keen to pick up new skills, and can show evidence of a rigorous approach to
solving real-world problems.
With support and guidance from your peers, you will work as part of our technical team on client assignments in multi-disciplinary
projects for a wide range of markets. You may work on one or more projects at a time, in a variety of different disciplines and
roles.
You will work on the design and implementation of systems for a wide range of applications and products. You will have many
opportunities to develop your technical design skills for analogue and digital hardware, information engineering, embedded
software, control, communications and whole product design. This could include writing software in C for embedded targets, writing
SystemVerilog for FPGAs, PCB design and hardware testing.
You will be expected to interact directly with clients at all phases of projects, from requirements capture and progress updates
to final handover.

INTRODUCTION We’re seeking bright, curious graduates who are passionate about software and excited by how technology can solve real problems. Join our Software and Electronics Department and contribute to projects spanning the consumer, energy, industrial, and defence & security sectors. You’ll get hands-on experience with a range of technologies aligned to your skills and interests, helping to tackle and solve real challenges for our clients. WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING Day to day you will be working in a team with colleagues and clients, learning from experienced engineers to design, develop and debug software of all descriptions. This may range from web applications to embedded software, protocols and machine control. YOUR (SPACE) MISSION As the FPGA Engineer at cosine you design and implement high‑performance FPGA image processing solutions that enable next‑generation Earth observation missions. You work at the intersection of electronics and software, turning raw sensor data into usable insights directly on hardware. Your work reduces data bandwidth, increases processing speed, and enables smart instruments that operate autonomously in space. Within cosine Remote Sensing you contribute to compact, high‑precision optical payloads used in real missions, from concept to deployment. TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES In this role you will: * Design, implement, and optimise FPGA architectures for real-time image processing pipelines * Translate image processing algorithms into efficient hardware implementations, including filtering, compression, and feature extraction * Perform general FPGA design tasks such as pipeline and architecture definition, building test benches, design verification and validation, and device configuration * Create and maintain board definition files, define I/O architecture, and manage boot configuration, in-flight reprogramming, memory management, and sensor readout * Collaborate with optical, electronics, and software engineers to integrate FPGA solutions into space-borne instruments * Verify and validate FPGA designs through simulation, hardware testing, and system-level integration * Contribute to continuous improvement of processing performance, power efficiency, and reliability for space applications * Expand existing designs to interface and read out to new devices such as imaging detectors and ADCs * Optimise data handling pipelines at challenging data rates, including offloading of CPU workloads into an FPGA YOUR PROFILE We are looking for candidates with the following qualifications: * BSc or equivalentin Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Embedded Systems, or a related field * Proven experience with FPGA development and validation using VHDL, Verilog and high level synthesis .
