Android - AOSP Engineer - IPP Hardware
Adyen’s In-person payments fleet of payment devices is growing exponentially with every passing month. We are bringing thousands
of devices to the field every month with a wide variety of models and this doesn’t come without challenges.
We are looking for an Android Engineer with AOSP experience to help us in taking full control over the Android OS.

About the Role You will help shape a scalable Android Automotive OS platform for infotainment and cockpit products in the automotive domain. The role combines hands-on platform engineering with ownership of the software base, source structure, and feature integration needed to support reuse across multiple products and customer programs. You will work across framework, services, applications, and vehicle-facing components while collaborating with product, architecture, and distributed engineering teams. Job DescriptionYou develop, integrate, and maintain Android Automotive OS platform features across framework, system services, applications, and vehicle-facing components. You work with AOSP and AAOS components such as Car Service, Vehicle HAL interfaces, Binder, AIDL/HIDL, permissions, system services, and automotive APIs. You set up and maintain Android platform configurations, including repo manifests, product definitions, device configurations, lunch targets, and build variants. You drive governance of the Android software base to support scalability, reuse, efficient project start-up, and long-term maintainability. You support platform upgrades and integration of new releases from Google and SoC vendors, while aligning technical choices with product and architecture needs. You contribute to quality, security, performance, and release readiness through reviews, testing, CI/CD, and structured engineering practices. You explore and prototype AI-enabled in-vehicle features where on-device, cloud, or hybrid AI can create clear product value. RequirementsYou have strong software engineering experience in Android platform development, Android Automotive OS, AOSP, infotainment, embedded Android, or similar complex software platforms. You have a solid understanding of Android internals, including framework architecture, system services, IPC, permissions, lifecycle, resource overlays, HAL integration, and platform debugging. You have practical experience with Android build and source management flows, including repo, manifests, product and device configuration, lunch targets, and platform customization. You have programming experience in Kotlin, Java, C++, and/or C, and can work across application, framework, system, and native layers. You have experience working in agile software development with Git/Gerrit, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, code reviews, and structured release processes. You communicate clearly in English and can explain technical trade-offs to different stakeholders. Nice to haveExperience or a strong interest in developing AI-enabled Android features for in-vehicle, mobile, embedded, or connected products. Understanding of when to use on-device, cloud-based, or hybrid AI based on privacy, latency, cost, connectivity, safety, and product requirements. Familiarity with Android AICore, Gemini Nano, Gemma, ML Kit GenAI APIs, TensorFlow Lite, Vertex AI, Firebase AI, Gemini models, or similar AI platforms. About the Role We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer and Technical Lead specializing in Bluetooth and Android Automotive OS (AAOS) to join our international automotive infotainment team in Gothenburg. In this role, you will play a key part in defining the future of connected vehicles. You will be responsible for integrating core connectivity stacks and driving customization across multiple layers of the Android architecture, while leading a global team to solve complex system integration challenges. This position offers a perfect balance of remaining hands-on with code while utilizing your technical leadership and architectural skills. Key Responsibilities * Integrate and optimize Google Bluetooth and Wi-Fi protocol stacks. * Drive custom software development and feature enhancement based on Android Automotive OS (AAOS). * Work across multiple layers of the system architecture, including Framework, Apps, HAL, and VHAL. * Lead and mentor a global engineering team to resolve complex system integration and performance issues. * Maintain hands-on coding while prioritizing technical leadership, architecture design, and team alignment. Your Profile (Requirements) * Solid development experience within Bluetooth or Wi-Fi Stack. * Strong hands-on experience with Android or Android Automotive OS (AAOS). * Fluency in English with excellent communication skills, capable of driving collaboration within international teams. * Proven experience as a Technical Lead or driving technical mentorship.
