We are looking for an experienced developer to help us shape the future of the Kotlin ecosystem.
In general, if you see yourself reading a Unicode standard, exploring how five other languages transform strings to bytes,
figuring out why some Oceania islands changed their timezone from -10:00 to +14:00 and whether it should be expressed in the API
of Kotlin timezones, optimizing interface hierarchy to be more JIT-friendly and is not afraid of re-iterating over documentation a
multitude of times, you won't get bored in our team.

ABOUT US We’re Cyted, a pioneering gastrointestinal diagnostics company transforming earlier detection for oesophageal cancer and Barrett’s oesophagus. Our EndoSign test combines a swallowable capsule with advanced biomarkers and analytics to detect disease earlier, improving patient outcomes while reducing pressures on healthcare systems. What started as an idea between a health-tech entrepreneur and leading clinical scientists in Cambridge UK, has quickly grown internationally, backed by EQT Life Sciences and a $44M Series B investment. But we still work like a startup - because we are one. Things move quickly and we’re building as we go. Some days you’ll solve brand new problems and others you’ll roll your sleeves up and get things done. We’re a collaborative team, so your work matters. We have our investors trust, but you won’t disappear into layers of hierarchy, waiting months for decisions. If you've got a good idea, we want to hear it - whatever your role. We like curious, adaptable people who are always willing to learn. This isn’t a polished corporate - we’re building as we go. If you're excited to help build something ambitious from the ground up that makes a real difference to patients' lives - we'd love to hear from you. Our four-stage process runs on a rolling basis, with each stage serving a clear purpose. Shaped by candidate feedback, we've designed it to give you honest insights into Cyted, whatever the role. 1. Initial conversation – A relaxed online conversation with Maddie from our People team to get to know you, talk through your experience and answer any questions you have about Cyted. 2. Line manager interview – An online discussion exploring the role in more detail through scenario-based and role-specific questions. 3. Team interview & assessment – Meet the wider team in person and see how we work. You'll complete a presentation or practical assessment so we can hear your ideas and see how you approach challenges at Cyted. 4. Final Interview – Marcel, our CEO, still meets every potential new joiner. It's an opportunity to discuss your ambitions and how they align with Cyted's journey and future vision. ROLE SUMMARY Our clinical platform is where clinicians, laboratory staff and pathologists interact with Cyted every day. You'll help evolve its front end, turning clinical workflows into intuitive, accessible experiences that make it easier for healthcare professionals to do their jobs. Working alongside engineers, commercial and operational teams and clinical specialists, you'll help shape features from early ideas through to release, learning directly from the people who use the platform while balancing user needs with clean, scalable engineering. We value fresh thinking and engineers who enjoy finding smarter ways to build reusable components and continually improve the front-end architecture. As Cyted expands into the US, you'll build on a platform that's already delivering real value in the UK. Using everything learned from our users, you'll help adapt and evolve the product for a new healthcare system, playing a meaningful role in the next stage of its growth in the US. If you're someone who enjoys learning, asking questions and improving with every project, you'll find plenty of opportunities to stretch yourself here. You'll be trusted to contribute, supported to grow, and encouraged to make a real impact within both the product and the engineering. WORKING PATTERN AND LOCATION This role is a full-time position with a standard 37.5 hour working week. You will be based at the Cyted’s Head Office, Ground Floor, Building 3, Old Swiss, 149 Cherry Hinton Road, Cambridge, CB1 7BX, UK and be expected to be in the office 3 days per week. IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL BE ACCOUNTABLE FOR: User Insight and Collaboration * Engaging with pathologists, clinicians, and internal service teams to understand real-world workflows, challenges, and user needs. * Demonstrating work regularly, actively seeking challenge and feedback, and iterating solutions based on user insight. Front End Development * Designing and building intuitive, accessible user interfaces for laboratory staff, pathologists, and clinicians. * Translating clinical workflows into simple, effective digital experiences. * Partnering with backend engineers and international stakeholders to deliver seamless end-to-end products. * Building robust, scalable, and reusable front-end components and design patterns. * Raising issues early, proposing practical solutions, and taking on ownership through to successful delivery. Product and Platform Delivery * Shaping, designing, and delivering diagnostic platform capabilities aligned to business priorities and customer value. * Building reusable code and shared libraries that strengthen the long-term architecture of the platform. * Integrating third-party services to extend platform capability. * Championing new technologies and approaches that improve productivity, quality, and maintainability. Engineering Excellence * Proactively diagnosing and resolving technical challenges quickly and methodically. * Defining test plans, writing automated tests, and conducting manual testing where required. * Supporting security reviews, audits, and penetration testing, and implementing resulting recommendations. Ways of Working * Mentoring and supporting engineers across the team to raise technical standards and overall team impact. * Sharing expertise and promoting engineering best practice across the team. * Contributing to Agile delivery and a culture of continuous improvement. * Collaborating to plan, prioritise, and deliver work with clarity, discipline, and accountability. TO THRIVE IN THIS ROLE, YOU WILL HAVE: Qualifications & Experience * Experience building modern web applications using React and TypeScript. * Experience working with cloud technologies such as AWS, modern CI/CD practices or Infrastructure as Code (e.g. Terraform). * Contributions to RESTful APIs using JVM languages such as Scala or Kotlin, or a genuine interest in developing these skills. Skills & Knowledge * Enjoys building clean, scalable and maintainable software with a focus on user experience. * Strong problem-solving skills, with the desire and curiosity to investigate issues and find practical solutions. * Comfortable collaborating with engineers, product managers and users to understand problems and shape better software. Personal Attributes * Curious and always intrigued to keep improving your craft. * Takes ownership, shares ideas and enjoys working as part of a collaborative engineering team. * Happy supporting and learning from others, helping teammates grow while continuing to develop yourself. SUCCESS IN THIS ROLE WILL LOOK LIKE: Your first two weeks will be spent getting to know the team, how we work and the technology behind our platform. You'll have a buddy for those day-to-day questions, complete quality and compliance training related to our lab quality management system, and get right into our sprint meetings: stand ups, demos, retros and planning. Within your first month you will get stuck in contributing to our team outcomes writing and testing code, whilst understanding our objectives, priorities and software stack. From chats and meetings with wider team members and users, you will start to form a solid understanding of what they really need from our software. By six months, you'll be taking ownership of a meaningful piece of work from start to finish, whether that's delivering a FHIR API, building new features for pathologists or helping operationalise our R&D team's genetics pipeline. Along the way, you'll become a trusted member of the team, contribute to support, and help shape what we build next. BENEFITS * 25 days’ holiday + public holidays with the ability to purchase up to 5 additional days * Matched pension contributions up to 7% * Company paid private health insurance with access to wellbeing and fitness discounts, including dental, optical and audiological cover * Paid 4 week sabbatical after 4 years of service * Company paid income protection of 75% base salary following a 13 week deferred period and company paid life insurance of 4x basic salary * Regular team socials, Winter & Summer parties, and an annual Team Day * Electric Vehicle and Cycle to Work Schemes through salary sacrifice
