YOUR IMPACT We are looking for an Electrical Technician to support our R&D activities across our sites in Villigen and Böttstein, Aargau. You will be responsible for developing electrical infrastructure and executing electrical installation, maintenance and troubleshooting tasks for our R&D facilities & experiments. Your work will directly enable our teams to build, test, and iterate faster. WHAT YOU WILL DO 1. Experimental Support You will help connect our experiments to their measurement and control systems. * Instrumentation Wiring: Assemble control panels, junction boxes and cabinets. Wire sensors, heaters, instrumentation, and related electrical interfaces. * System Integration: Support integration of power supplies, control panels, acquisition systems, and test equipment from an electrical perspective. * Commissioning Support: Assist with electrical checks, verification, and commissioning of experimental setups. * Troubleshooting: Diagnose and repair electrical faults, component failures, and other problems affecting experiments. 2. Electrical Infrastructure You will support the definition and upgrade of electrical infrastructure for our R&D program * Infrastructure Development: Procure and coordinate or execute the installation of power distribution equipment for new experiments, R&D and manufacturing equipment. * Electrical Connection: Power and connect our experimental setups, prototype rigs, and manufacturing equipment. * Installation Oversight: Oversee electrical interventions by external contractors 3. Safety and Quality Reliable operation depends on fast diagnosis and safe maintenance of electrical systems. * Safety & Compliance: Ensure installations and modifications are safe and compliant with relevant norms, regulations and internal procedures. * Maintenance: Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on electrical infrastructure, test hardware, and support systems. * Quality of Execution: Ensure that installations are neat, maintainable, and consistent with industrial norms. Maintain a safe, functional, and organized electrical environment WHO YOU ARE We are looking for a qualified Electrician who is safety-conscious, deeply practical, and enjoys making technical systems work reliably. * Background: Training and practical experience as an Electrician, Electrical Technician, or similar. * Qualification: Elektroinstallateur EFZ (Swiss vocational diploma), or equivalent qualification * Language Skills: Fluent English * Safety Mindset: Good knowledge of safe electrical working practices and regulations. * Technical Capability: Comfortable developing electrical infrastructure, producing and reading electrical diagrams, sizing cables and protection devices, performing modifications, and troubleshooting real systems. * Adaptability: Comfortable working in a dynamic R&D environment where setups evolve quickly and where engineers, scientists, and technicians collaborate closely. Nice to have * Qualified to act as the technically responsible person (fachkundige Person) under the Swiss NIV: e.g. Elektro-Projektleiter mit eidg. Fachausweis, eidg. dipl. YOUR IMPACT You will contribute to the development of joint and cable technologies for Proxima’s magnet programme, with a strong focus on hands-on prototyping, manufacturing, and testing at our labs based in Villigen and Böttstein. You will play a key role in the design, fabrication, and iterative improvement of joints, cables, and other related components for magnet prototypes and future HTS magnets. You will operate at the interface between mechanical, electrical, and experimental domains, contributing to rapid prototyping cycles and integration of components into experimental setups. WHAT YOU WILL DO * Design and develop mechanical and electro-mechanical components related to joint and busbar systems * Design and implement early concepts of superconducting cables * Build, assemble, and test prototypes in close collaboration with the workshop * Support manufacturing and integration of components into magnet prototypes and experimental setups * Iterate on designs based on test results, measurements, and experimental feedback * Contribute to the development of manufacturing processes and tooling for joint fabrication * Participate in experimental activities, including setup, instrumentation, and data acquisition * Collaborate with engineers and technicians across mechanical, electrical, and materials domains WHO YOU ARE * Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, or related field * Strong hands-on experience in prototyping, manufacturing, or experimental work * Experience with CAD tools (ideally CATIA; experience with NX, SolidWorks, or Onshape also relevant) * Good understanding of electrical or electromagnetic systems (e.g. current flow, resistive losses, basic circuit behavior) * Comfortable working in a workshop and laboratory environment * Pragmatic, solution-oriented mindset with ability to iterate quickly * Strong team player, able to work across disciplines NICE TO HAVE * Experience with electromechanical systems, sensors, or instrumentation * Familiarity with manufacturing processes (machining, assembly, soldering, etc.) * Experience in R&D or prototype development environments * Exposure to thermal, electrical, or materials characterization INTERVIEW PROCESS * Recruiter Interview (30-60 min) * Technical Screening (30 min) * Technical Panel (2x60 min) * Practical On-site *This role sits at L2 of our framework, please inquire during the recruitment process for further information. Working alongside experienced engineers and technicians, you will receive structured training, mentoring, and field exposure to build competence in commissioning activities from Level 2 (Installation Verification) through to Level 5 (Integrated System Testing). This role is designed to support your progression from a graduate engineer to an independent commissioning professional. Travel to project sites across Europe for extended periods is a core requirement of this position. RESPONSIBILITIES: * Support electrical commissioning activities across Data Centre projects under the guidance of experienced commissioning personnel. * Participate in electrical design reviews and assist in identifying and documenting design discrepancies. * Review project specifications, control philosophies, System of Operation (SOO), Description of Operation (DOO), and equipment submittals. * Read and interpret electrical drawings, including single-line diagrams, schematics, and layouts. * Assist in the development and review of commissioning test scripts and procedures. * Witness and support Level 2 to Level 5 commissioning activities, including Installation Verification Checks (IVC), Pre-Functional Checks (PFC), Functional Performance Tests (FPT), and Integrated System Tests (IST). * Execute assigned commissioning activities once trained and authorised by the Electrical Lead. * Accurately record test results, field observations, and commissioning documentation. * Assist with preparation of commissioning reports, trackers, dashboards, and As-Left documentation. * Attend project meetings and provide status updates on assigned activities. * Support the review of commissioning documentation and document management systems. * Any other duties or responsibilities that may be assigned to you in your role.    SKILLS REQUIRED: * Strong interest in electrical engineering and commissioning within mission-critical environments. * Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and engineering documentation. * Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. * Excellent attention to detail and organisational abilities. * Effective written and verbal communication skills. * Ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team. * Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. * Willingness to learn and develop technical knowledge through training and practical experience. * Ability to travel extensively across Europe for project assignments. * Commitment to maintaining the highest standards of safety and quality.
