Monil is building world-leading technology for virtual fencing and livestock monitoring. In just three years, we’ve grown to over 1,000 customers and more than 20,000 collars in active use across multiple markets. We are now entering a new phase of international growth — and the scalability and reliability of our backend platform will be critical to our success.
Our technology is trusted by forward-thinking farmers, research institutions, and agricultural organizations across several countries. Every day, thousands of animals rely on our systems running smoothly.
Our devices collect large amounts of real-time data from animals in the field. We process, analyze, and transform this data into actionable insights that improve animal welfare, farming efficiency, and sustainability. Behind this is a modern, cloud-based backend platform built for performance, resilience, and scale.
We’re now looking for a Backend Engineer who wants to build high-performance systems that truly matter.
What we're looking for
- 1-3+ years of experience with Go
Experience with PostgreSQL or other relational databases
Experience with Kubernetes (a plus, but not required)
BSc or MSc in Computer Science, Informatics or Engineering
Bonus points for:
- Experience developing IoT products
Experience with AWS
Fluency in Norwegian (preferred, but we make exceptions for the exceptional)
Experience working in a startup or fast-paced environment
Real-life experience with farming or agriculture (not required, but appreciated)

Go for backend services
PostgreSQL / TimescaleDB for data storage
gRPC for internal communication and GraphQL APIs for frontends
AWS (EKS and other AWS services) for infrastructure
High observability throughout the stack, with metrics, tracing, and logs
Our platform runs on Kubernetes and is built with scalability, reliability, and operational excellence in mind.
