The Challenge 🧩
We are seeking an experienced Experimentation lead who will own the evolution of Wallapop's experimentation practice. This person
will define the company's experimentation standards, improve statistical rigor, increase the speed and quality of product
decisions, and help Product teams adopt a culture of evidence-based decision making.
You will partner closely with Product, Engineering, Data Science, Analytics, and Executive leadership to ensure experiments are
designed, executed, analyzed, and interpreted consistently across the organization. You will be both a hands-on expert and an
internal consultant, helping teams answer critical questions about marketplace growth, personalization, search, discovery, trust &
safety, monetization, and seller experiences.

About the Role We’re looking for a Staff Data Scientist to shape the future of our marketplace through advanced analytics, experimentation, and machine learning. You’ll define the technical direction of data science initiatives, influence product strategy, and mentor other data scientists to elevate our analytical standards and impact. As a Senior Technical Leader, you’ll partner closely with Product, Engineering, and Operations teams to turn data into decisions that improve reliability, growth, and user experience across markets. What You’ll Do - Lead data science initiatives with company-wide impact — from experimentation frameworks to ML systems and causal inference methods - Define best practices and standards for experimentation, modelling, and analytical excellence across teams - Partner with Product and Engineering leadership to identify and prioritise high-leverage opportunities - Develop and deploy scalable models and data products that drive measurable business outcomes - Mentor and coach other data scientists and analysts, helping them deliver higher-impact work - Communicate insights and recommendations to senior leadership, influencing product and growth strategy - Contribute to Heetch’s data platform evolution, ensuring data quality, reliability, and efficiency at scale You’ll Thrive In This Role If You - Have a deep understanding of statistics, experimentation, and causal inference, and know how to apply them pragmatically - Are fluent in Python, SQL, and modern data/ML tooling - Have experience bringing ML models into production and measuring their long-term business impact - Are skilled at translating complex technical findings into actionable business insights - Are a collaborative leader who mentors peers and sets high standards for analytical rigor and impact - Have 7+ years of experience in data science, ideally with 2–3 years in a Staff-level or tech-lead capacity Nice to Have - Experience in marketplace or pricing systems (supply–demand modelling, matching, or fraud detection) - Experience leading data science guilds, chapters, or communities of practice - Familiarity with MLOps, feature stores, or causal inference frameworks

We recognise that engineering managers lead in different ways, we’re looking for someone who: * Has worked on user-facing mobile products - ideally, you’ll be able to discuss the product impact you’ve made in your previous roles, including working on product strategy, roadmapping, and goal setting. * You have a founder mindset and like taking ownership of anything that will drive business impact. * Has an understanding of what good looks like for a high-performing team of engineers and ability to chart a course to get there * Is comfortable operating with ambiguous problem areas with a high degree of autonomy. * It’s a bonus if you have experience working in an experimentation led environment. * Has delivery experience and is able to guide the squads in achieving their outcomes. * Focuses on outcomes over processes, who optimises for the highest impact and leverage. * Is able to input, understand and challenge engineering decisions - but to empower the team to make those decisions themselves * Is able to to coach people to achieve their goals * Has a natural ability to inspire and motivate a team The interview process: Our interview process involves three main stages 1. Recruiter Call (30 mins) You'll meet our Engineering Leadership Recruiter to discuss your experience and learn more about Monzo. They'll be your partner and guide throughout the interview process. 2. Initial Call (1 hour) You'll meet with one of our Senior Engineering Managers or Engineering Directors. They'll ask you about your previous experience, in particular people leadership, product delivery and technical leadership. They’ll ask example based questions (‘Tell me about a time when…’) 3. Loop Stage (3 hours 30 mins) The Loop stage consists of 3 x 60 min interviews that take place over 1-2 days (depending on your availability) and one 30 minute reverse interview (more details below). - Team and Org Management (1 hour) An example based interview with 1-2 of our engineering leaders. They’re interested to hear examples from your previous experience on the teams you’ve led, how you’ve shaped and partnered with product, and the impact you had. - System Design (1 hour) You'll partner with a Staff or Principal Engineer on a technical whiteboarding exercise. - Behavioural (1 hour) Similar to Team and Org Management, this is an example based interview with 1-2 Engineering Leaders.
