You’ll learn from colleagues across our studios, ship products that reach thousands or even millions of people and help shape what digital can do for leading organisations in Europe. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- WHAT YOU’LL DO  We're building a brand-new RUN team from the ground up, a dedicated operational function that owns the after-care of the products we run, both our own and the ones we host or operate for customers. As one of the first people on the team, you won't inherit a fixed playbook: you'll write it, shaping how the team works, the practices and tooling it adopts, and how operational excellence becomes part of how we build and run products. It's a hands-on, senior role where you set the technical and operational direction for a small team of two to three people, leading by expertise and example rather than as a manager. AI is transforming how we work, and you'll bring that same fluency to how the RUN team operates from day one. If defining a new discipline energises you more than maintaining an established one, this is your challenge. * Take operational ownership of internal and hosted products in production, keeping them reliable, secure, performant and cost-effective. * Own the incident lifecycle end to end (detection, response, mitigation, resolution and blameless post-mortems) using incident.io, and take part in a fair, sustainable on-call rotation. * Define and operationalise SLIs, SLOs and error budgets, and be a key figure in maintenance and SLA presales, shaping proposals, contracts and framework agreements. * Build and maintain a modern observability stack with a strong focus on OpenTelemetry. * Grow a platform engineering and inner-sourcing culture: reusable components (e.g. GitLab components, Terraform modules), self-service golden paths and production-readiness scorecards for product teams. * Work hands-on across CI/CD, infrastructure as code, cloud-native architecture and networking, and design for resilience, performance and scale. * Embed security into everything you run, secrets management, scanning (SAST/DAST), penetration tests and vulnerability remediation. * Reduce toil through automation and an AI-first approach to operations, keeping a close feedback loop with the development teams. * Play an enabling role in setting and enforcing best practices when it comes to end-to-end incident management. WHO YOU ARE  You won't tick every box on day one, depth in the core matters more than breadth across all of it, and you'll grow the team's capabilities around the gaps. * A senior DevOps / SRE engineer with proven, hands-on experience running products in production and owning their reliability. * Energised by building and shaping a new team and discipline, and comfortable setting direction where none exists yet. * AI-native in how you work, AI is part of your daily craft, and you apply it to operations, automation and reliability. * Strong on incident management (incident.io a plus) and experienced with maintenance/SLA contracts, framework agreements and presales, including SLIs and SLOs. * Deep observability expertise (ideally OpenTelemetry), with a broad hands-on foundation across cloud-native (GCP or AWS), CI/CD and IaC (GitLab, Terraform), networking and resilience. * Security-minded, scanning (SAST/DAST), penetration testing, secrets and vulnerability management. * A platform engineering mindset, self-service capabilities, reusable components and inner sourcing. * A collaborative communicator who works well with development teams, client partners and customer operations teams. Operating with a "big picture" perspective, you will play a key role in our Business Design tracks, helping clients transition from current inefficiencies to future-proof ecosystems while guiding them through the complexities of digital and AI transformation. DESIGN THE ENTERPRISE BLUEPRINT * You will develop and maintain organization's overarching architecture framework, covering business, data, application, and technology layers. * You will craft the high-level architecture for complex buy vs. build challenges by analysing the existing technology landscape and understanding business, and user functional and non-functional requirements, to ensure secure and compliant solutions. ALIGN STRATEGY WITH EXECUTION * You will translate business strategies into actionable, evolutionary IT roadmaps. * By utilizing Business Design tools like Capability Maps and Value Streams, you ensure that technology and AI investments are focused exactly where they create the most value and competitive advantage. ESTABLISH ARCHITECTURE & DATA GOVERNANCE * You will define, implement, and enforce architectural principles and standards. * You will also guide organizations in building solid data foundations and establishing governance structures (such as AI Centres of Excellence), ensuring teams can innovate and experiment safely within technical and regulatory guardrails. EVALUATE & DRIVE INNOVATION * You will continuously assess the external environment and emerging technologies to determine their fit within the existing architecture. * You will guide organizations from discovering opportunities to deploying production-ready solutions (including Applied AI), accelerating their digital maturity. COLLABORATE ACROSS DOMAINS * You will partner with business leaders, AI transformation experts, Product Managers, and Solution Architects to facilitate cross-domain decision-making. WHO YOU ARE  * You have 7+ years of professional experience with a background in engineering, with at least 3 years in consulting, digital strategy or transformation roles serving enterprise or public-sector clients. * You have a solid background in IT architecture and a holistic mindset. * You are capable of stepping back from individual systems to understand complex organizational structures, and you know how to safely integrate new paradigms, whether that is cloud modernization or AI integration, into core operations. * You are a "bridge-builder" who fluidly translates complex technical concepts into simple terms for non-technical executives, while successfully relaying business requirements to engineering teams. You don't have to be the smartest person in the room; your goal is to make everyone else smarter. * You possess strong business acumen and understand that architecture is highly context-dependent and exists to serve business value. * You are familiar with business design concepts like capability mapping, value streams, and operating models, and can link technology investments directly to new value propositions. * You are comfortable with formulating a substantiated opinion and defending it to executives. * You are comfortable leading organizations through the ambiguity of change, digital evolution, and AI readiness. * You excel in stakeholder management, effortlessly navigating conflicting agendas and fostering alignment from the C-suite to the teams "in the trenches". * You have practical experience with enterprise architecture frameworks (such as TOGAF) and modeling languages. * You combine this with a strong understanding of data governance, security by design, and the compliance requirements needed to deploy technology responsibly at an enterprise scale. * You possess full professional proficiency in Dutch and English, enabling you to articulate complex ideas with clarity. That brings exciting opportunities, but also new complexity: more code shipped means more to validate, more to govern, and more to get right. We're looking for a Quality Engineer who thrives in that environment. Someone who can shape a quality strategy that keeps pace with change, and who knows how to leverage AI as a tool without losing sight of the hard questions it raises. At In The Pocket, this role is less about running tests and more about owning quality as a discipline: setting the strategy, earning buy-in, coaching people, and making sure the right guardrails are in place, even as the tools and the pace of delivery keep evolving. QUALITY STRATEGY & GOVERNANCE * Design and own a scalable quality strategy for accelerated software delivery. * Monitor quality health using meaningful metrics and govern compliant release management processes. * Identify and fix structural quality issues through process changes, tooling, or coaching. AI-AUGMENTED QUALITY ENGINEERING * Actively explore and evaluate AI support for quality work, including generating test cases and deploying autonomous agents. * Address the challenge of validating AI test agents themselves and ensuring their reliability. * Stay close to AI tooling developments and apply a critical, evidence based perspective on what to adopt. QUALITY ASSURANCE * Challenge designs, user stories, and acceptance criteria early and often from a quality perspective. * Design, develop, and execute test cases, scripts, plans, and procedures. * Facilitate automated UI testing and guide teams on unit, integration, and system testing. COMMUNICATION & STAKEHOLDER MANAGEMENT * Communicate quality status, risks, and strategy clearly to all stakeholders. * Build alignment on quality standards across all disciplines: developers, designers, product managers, and leadership. * Influence, coach, and guide teams toward better practices to ensure quality is everyone's responsibility. WHO YOU ARE  * Proven experience in software quality engineering or a related field. * Strong analytical and critical thinking skills: you can identify root causes, weigh trade-offs, and make well-reasoned decisions under uncertainty. * You have a track record of shaping quality processes, not just following them. * You’re an excellent communicator that knows how to explain complex concepts to different audiences.  * You understand the importance of alignment to achieve progress, and you know how to establish that. * Genuine curiosity about AI's role in software engineering: you follow what's changing, you experiment, and you form your own grounded view. * Assertive and flexible: you hold the line on what matters, and you know when to be pragmatic. * Basic programming knowledge; enough to collaborate meaningfully with engineers and evaluate technical quality decisions.
