The Okta Privileged Access Management Team (PAM)   The Okta Privileged Access Management (PAM) is an identity-centric approach to a common and critical privileged access use case. Our elegant Zero Trust architecture is purpose-built for the modern cloud and helps customers solve challenging security and operations pain points at scale. .   The Software Engineering Manager We are looking for a manager to lead the product development team behind this fast-growing product as we continue our mission to secure the internet by building a scalable, reliable product that customers love to use. What you’ll be doing  * Lead a team of engineers responsible for building the backend, frontend for PAM features. * You’ll lead the adoption of AI across your team’s software development workflows, integrating it thoughtfully to improve productivity, quality, and speed. * Work closely with Product Management to develop and implement our product roadmap. * Empower your teams to focus on usability, scale and reliability. * Recruit great engineers to accelerate our work. * Mentor, retain and develop engineers as they advance in their own careers. * Establishing clear priorities, expectations, and accountability for individuals and team * Driving the execution and delivery of product features with high quality, collaborating with cross-functional teams, System Architects, QA, and Documentation teams What you’ll bring to the role * Have managed software engineering teams with end-to-end ownership over their technical stack, development environment and production performance. * Hands-on experience with AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot and Claude, with the ability to integrate them effectively into day-to-day engineering workflows. * Are excited to build an amazing product - and believe the best way to do so is by leading and empowering engineers. * Are familiar with infrastructure tools such as AWS, GCP, Ansible, Terraform or Kubernetes. * Have successfully built high-performing engineering teams which deliver their product “as a Service”. * Have opinions on topics like feature flags, CI pipelines and technical debt. * Are comfortable leading geographically distributed teams. * Thrive on autonomy, and use it to get stuff done. About the role This key role involves building and leading a team of talented, passionate backend Java software engineers responsible for developing mission-critical and innovative identity and security products, specifically focusing on platform features for authentication and authorisation. More specifically, you will - * Collaborate cross-functionally and across teams, with responsibility for the product, team health, and customer satisfaction. * Contribute to defining the strategic direction (product & technical) and roadmap for the team. * Ensure technical leadership is being provided to the engineers on the team in terms of scalable and maintainable systems. Ensure a high-quality bar through testing and testing automation. * Participate in and enable key team processes to organize & deliver key projects with high business impact. * Build a team for the long term, including creating a collaborative working environment, recruitment, and developing existing talent. * Drive career management discussions, including setting expectations and removing blockers, and feedback and coaching opportunities. Required Skills, Attitude and Knowledge: * 3+ years managing engineering teams, balancing new feature/product development and maintaining existing features. * Experience in stakeholder management, including alignment, prioritization, communication, and receiving and incorporating feedback. * Demonstrated ability to build teams from ground-up, managing performance, mentoring and coaching teams * Demonstrated focus on delivering outcomes, balancing constraints and tight deadlines. * 7-10 years of prior software development experience with Java or other backend technologies. Our elite team is fast, creative, and flexible; with a weekly release cycle and individual ownership, we expect great things from our engineers and reward them with stimulating new projects, new technologies, and the chance to have significant equity in a company that is changing the cloud computing landscape forever.   You Will * Leverage cutting-edge AI pair-programmers and LLMs (such as Copilot and Claude) to accelerate the development of secure, enterprise-grade Privileged Access Management (PAM) products. * Proven expertise leveraging AI development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Anthropic Claude) to accelerate the software development lifecycle (SDLC) while maintaining high code quality. * Work with engineering teams to design, develop and deliver cloud-based privileged access management solutions. * Design, build, and maintain end-to-end features using modern JavaScript and cloud-native backend technologies. * Lead technical design for key initiatives, driving quality, scalability, and maintainability. * Build reusable and performant UI components for a best-in-class no-code builder experience. * Drive evaluation, development, and rollout of new features and common platform components. * Evaluate existing systems to evolve them for serving in specialized circumstances to support Okta's future business needs * Conduct thorough design and code reviews, ensuring that proposed solutions account for scalability, redundancy, and multi-tenancy. Uphold high programming standards by consistently writing comprehensive unit and functional tests * Monitor, troubleshoot, and fix services and frameworks the team owns * Evaluate system performance and resolve bottlenecks * Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior developers * Collaborate with architects, QA, product owners, security and operations engineers   You Have * Immense passion for doing the right thing to help Okta's technology stay ahead of its anticipated business growth, * Extensive experience with cloud based software security product development. * Solid technology chops in architecting, implementing, tuning, and debugging some of the largest cloud deployments in the enterprise world * A good understanding of computer science fundamentals such as data structures and algorithms” * Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent; master's preferred. * 9+ years of extensive programming experience in a modern programming language like Go, Java, or C++ especially in backend services.
