YOUR MISSION You will be the systems safety lead for a next-generation Unmanned Aerial System (UAS), driving a safety-by-design approach across the entire product lifecycle. This includes ensuring all mechanical, electrical, and software subsystems meet stringent safety requirements. As a Principal / Senior Systems Engineer, you will define the safety-critical architecture and interfaces, manage safety integration and verification activities, and drive system safety validation through rigorous testing, hazard analysis, and compliance reporting. RESPONSIBILITIES * Serve as the system safety lead for UAS product development and upgrades, owning overall platform safety and coherency from concept through delivery. * Work day-to-day within multidisciplinary teams (mechanical, electrical, avionics, software, test) across the full lifecycle of UAS design, integration, test and fielding. * Conceptualise and capture system architecture for new platforms and enhancements, producing technical trade studies, safety-critical sizing, and system performance assessments. * Establish and execute the system safety program, including the development of Preliminary Hazard Analyses (PHA) and System/Subsystem Hazard Assessments (SHA/SSHA). * Lead and coordinate Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) activities across multidisciplinary teams. * Produce layout and system design plans, define Interface Control Documents (ICDs) and enforce interface control processes for mechanical, electrical, and software subsystems. * Establish and maintain requirements baselines, including safety requirements, and traceability using industry tools (e.g., IBM DOORS) and MBSE approaches. * Implement robust change control processes to manage and assess the impact of all design changes on system safety and compliance. * Act as the technical interface between internal teams, suppliers and customers to coordinate payload integration, unique/custom hardware or software interfaces, and ensure on-time capability delivery. * Manage tactical engineering tasks during development sprints and test campaigns, resolving cross-discipline issues and maintaining configuration control. QUALIFICATIONS * Degree (or equivalent) in Systems, Aerospace, Electrical or a closely related Engineering discipline. * Significant industry experience with demonstrable systems engineering and system safety responsibility on UAV/aerospace or equivalent complex, safety-critical platforms. * Strong practical experience integrating complex systems: power systems, RF/EMC, EO sensors, networking, flight controllers and payload interfaces. * Proven track record in requirements capture, compliance analysis, and verification/validation activities; proficient with requirements management tools (IBM DOORS or similar). * Demonstrable experience leading and executing safety analyses, including Hazard Assessments (PHA/SHA/SSHA) and FMEA/DFMEA. * Familiarity with safety standards (e.g., ARP4754A, ARP4761, DO-178C, DO-254) and the principles of requirements and change control in a regulated environment. * Familiarity with MBSE principles, interface control processes and configuration management in regulated environments. * Excellent written and verbal communication skills; highly organised and detail-oriented. * Ability to operate effectively in fast-moving, ambiguous environments and to travel within the UK/Europe for testing and integration. * A genuine passion for system development, integration and testing and a collaborative, inclusive team approach. * Security-cleared or eligible to obtain UK defence clearance. Desirable * Prior experience leading Systems Engineering and authoring safety assurance documentation and risk management artefacts. * Experience integrating complex/custom payloads for partner or customer use (hardware, electrical and software interfaces). * Background in start-up or scale-up environments where rapid prototyping, iterative testing and pragmatic engineering decisions are typical.
Mission Brief Isar Aerospace is seeking a (Senior) Systems Engineer with experience in the development and qualification of complex aerospace systems. In this role, you will contribute to the systems engineering activities that support the successful development, verification, qualification, and operation of Spectrum and future launch systems. Working closely with the Chief Engineer, Product Office, Launch Systems Engineers, Engineering Teams, Program Management, and Quality functions, you will support the definition and implementation of systems engineering processes, qualification approaches, compliance activities, and technical baseline management across the product lifecycle. You will help ensure that requirements are translated into coherent, verifiable, and traceable technical solutions while maintaining alignment with program objectives and regulatory expectations. Your Role in Our Space Mission * Define and maintain systems engineering processes, methods, and standards across launch vehicle development programs. * Define requirements tailoring strategies for development, qualification, acceptance, operational, and customer use cases. * Develop and maintain vehicle-level Verification, Validation, and Qualification strategies and plans. * Coordinate the development and presentation of technical compliance evidence to external authorities, ensuring requirements, verification activities, and qualification results are effectively communicated and accepted. * Define compliance demonstration methods and qualification approaches for system and subsystem requirements. * Ensure alignment between requirements, verification activities, qualification campaigns, and generated evidence. * Support major technical reviews, including System Requirements Reviews (SRR), Preliminary Design Reviews (PDR), Critical Design Reviews (CDR), Test Readiness Reviews (TRR), and Flight Readiness Reviews (FRR). * Establish and maintain technical baseline management processes throughout the product lifecycle. * Support architecture development by ensuring technical consistency, traceability, and requirements compliance across engineering domains. * Support mission assurance, reliability, safety, and compliance activities throughout the development lifecycle. Qualification Checklist * Master's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline. * Minimum 8 years of experience in aerospace, defense, launch systems, spacecraft, aviation, or other highly regulated engineering industries. * Strong understanding of formal systems engineering principles across the complete product lifecycle. * Demonstrated experience in requirements engineering, verification and validation, qualification, certification, compliance, or mission assurance activities. * Experience developing qualification and verification approaches for complex hardware systems. * Experience leading technical discussions with regulatory and safety authorities, including preparation and presentation of compliance and qualification evidence. * Familiarity with ECSS, NASA, ESA, FAA, EASA, MIL-STD, or equivalent engineering standards. * Strong knowledge of technical review processes, systems engineering governance, and lifecycle management. * Experience managing complex technical interfaces across multiple engineering organizations. * Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills. * Ability to work effectively across multiple engineering disciplines and levels of the organization. * Experience generating technical documentation, compliance evidence, and engineering reports. * Fluent in spoken and written English. YOUR MISSION As a Senior EMC, HIRF & Lightning Protection Engineer (all genders) you will help us design and develop the aircraft and its installed systems. As an all-electric aircraft, this may entail new and novel approaches to meeting the EMC, HIRF and Lightning protection goals, in some cases requiring an innovative approach to systems design. This will be a broad role covering design support, analysis, test and compliance finding. In this role, you will provide specialist support to all other engineering groups including systems and structures. YOUR DAY-TO-DAY * Proactively lead and execute technical tasks related to EMC, HIRF & Lightning protection for the Microliner development and certification, from capturing technical requirements to demonstrating compliance. * Contribute significantly to the definition, architecture, sizing, specification, and development of the overall electrical system with respect to meeting the EMC, HIRF and Lightning protection goals. * Support high and low voltage electrics and avionics safety analysis and conduct system engineering tasks. * Support the installation and integration of entire electrical/electronic systems on an aircraft level. * Develop mitigation strategies for system noise and coupling issues, including shielding, grounding, and filtering solutions. * Lead efforts to analyse and design system protection against high-intensity radiated fields (HIRF). * Coordinate HIRF immunity tests with external labs and certification bodies. * Develop strategies for direct and indirect lightning protection for airframe, electrical wiring, and electronic equipment. * Plan, execute, and document EMC, HIRF, and lightning tests in compliance with regulatory and customer requirements. * Diagnose and resolve electromagnetic interference issues observed during development or testing.
