ABOUT THE ROLE AND TEAM: You will form part of a cross-functional agile team, working closely with 3-5 other engineers working closely with QA, Product and Design teams to deliver high-quality work for clients across a number of industries. We strive to create the best product possible with everyone's effort, and you'll be an integral part of that mission. Your role in the team is highly valued, and you'll be a key player in ensuring the success of our projects. OUR TECH: Our backend team focuses on the following tech stack: * Java * RESTful Java APIs * Kafka * AWS * CI/CD WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING: * Developing RESTful Java APIs, including interaction with databases with a focus on readable, maintainable and well-tested code * Integrating with third-party APIs such as payment gateways * Collaborating with the full project team (including BAs, QAs and members of the client team) to provide the best solutions to our clients * Identifying bottlenecks in the software delivery process and removing any roadblocks that arise * Professional handling of difficult client communications for specific issues * Identifying knowledge gaps and mentoring opportunities for your team * Being able to define and oversee the technical implementation of a client project WE'D LOVE TO TALK TO YOU IF:  * You have strong knowledge of API development using Java, including ORM storage * You actively facilitate and encourage knowledge sharing within the team and wider department * You advocate for best engineering practices such as code reviews, paired programming, and automated tests * You are familiar with cloud services and CI/CD (this is a bonus) * You are Using Agentic AI to develop and deploy solutions. * You are Utilising cloud-based, AI enabled workflows to increase productivity. This role is focused on pragmatic modernisation rather than large-scale rewrites. The successful candidate will work across a broad technology landscape that includes legacy .NET applications and services alongside modern cloud-based platforms, helping teams improve, simplify, and evolve existing systems while balancing operational risk, business priorities, and long-term sustainability. You will work closely with engineering teams, architects, and senior stakeholders, providing hands-on technical leadership and helping shape practical engineering decisions within a highly regulated environment. This role follows a hybrid working model based in Glasgow and requires individuals who are comfortable building trusted relationships with stakeholders while working within established enterprise delivery frameworks. Key Responsibilities * Design, develop, maintain, and improve applications and services using .NET technologies and AWS cloud platforms. * Work across both legacy and modern technology stacks, supporting the ongoing evolution of existing services. * Analyse existing applications and services to identify opportunities for simplification, rationalisation, and modernisation. * Contribute to cloud platform improvements and AWS engineering initiatives. * Design and implement Infrastructure as Code solutions using Terraform. * Support DevOps practices, automation initiatives, and engineering improvements across the software delivery lifecycle. * Work collaboratively with architects, engineers, and stakeholders to deliver pragmatic technical solutions. * Help teams manage scope effectively, balancing technical improvement with delivery objectives. * Promote best practices in software engineering, maintainability, operational excellence, and long-term supportability. * Support knowledge transfer and documentation activities where domain knowledge may be limited or fragmented. Required Experience * Strong experience as a Senior Software Engineer working within .NET environments. * Experience working across both modern .NET and legacy .NET Framework applications. * Strong AWS cloud experience. * Good understanding of DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and engineering automation. * Experience working within complex enterprise environments. * Strong stakeholder management and communication skills. * Comfortable engaging with senior business and technical stakeholders. * Experience analysing and improving existing systems rather than delivering greenfield-only solutions. * Strong problem-solving skills and a pragmatic approach to engineering decisions. * Ability to work effectively within hybrid delivery teams. This role combines hands-on software engineering with technical leadership responsibilities, helping drive engineering quality, platform improvement, and modern development practices across a varied .NET landscape. The successful candidate will work across a diverse technology stack that includes legacy .NET Framework applications, WCF and WPF services, alongside modern applications being developed on the latest versions of .NET through to .NET 10. You will play a key role in building scalable cloud-native solutions, improving existing systems, and helping shape engineering standards and delivery practices. This role requires someone comfortable operating within challenging technical environments, able to work closely with engineering teams and stakeholders to simplify, improve, and evolve existing services. Strong communication and stakeholder management skills are essential, as many existing platforms and services have significant operational and organisational investment behind them.
