Our mission is to transform how the world’s largest enterprises interact with their data through flagship products like Snowflake Intelligence. As a Principal AI Engineer, you will be a technical North Star for our AI initiatives. You won't just execute on a roadmap; you will help define it. You will tackle the most complex, "frontier" problems in agentic reasoning, NL-to-SQL, and enterprise-scale RAG, ensuring our AI products are not only innovative but fundamentally reliable and scalable for the Fortune 500. WHAT YOU WILL DO IN THIS ROLE: * Technical Strategy & Architecture: Define the long-term technical vision for Snowflake Intelligence. Lead the architectural design of multi-agent systems, complex tool-use frameworks, and self-correcting NL-to-SQL engines. * Drive Industry-Leading Reliability: Move beyond simple evals to build world-class, automated "hill-climbing" infrastructure. You will establish the methodology for how Snowflake measures and guarantees LLM performance across diverse customer schemas. * Cross-Functional Influence: Partner with Product and Engineering leadership to align AI capabilities with business goals. You will bridge the gap between Research (modeling) and Production (infra), ensuring the latest LLM breakthroughs are viable at Snowflake scale. * Ecosystem Thinking: Design extensible "context engineering" patterns—including advanced function calling and semantic layer integration—that can be leveraged by other Snowflake teams and external developers. * Technical Leadership & Mentorship: Act as a force multiplier. You will mentor Staff and Senior engineers, lead cross-functional "strike teams" on high-stakes projects, and foster a culture of technical excellence and rapid experimentation. REQUIREMENTS: * Experience: 10+ years of software engineering experience, with 3+ years specifically leading the deployment of LLM-based applications at massive scale. * Education: Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Computer Science, AI, or a related field. * Expertise: Deep, "under-the-hood" understanding of LLM orchestration. You should be an expert in prompt optimization, semantic modeling, and building robust guardrails for non-deterministic systems. * Systems Thinking: Proven track record of designing complex systems that integrate AI with traditional data stacks (SQL, Retrieval Systems, Semantic Layers). * Communication: Exceptional ability to communicate complex technical trade-offs to both executive leadership and ICs. You are as comfortable in a design doc as you are in a boardroom. * Proven Impact: You have previously held a "Principal" or equivalent high-level IC role, or have led the technical launch of a major AI product used by millions. We're hiring at both the Staff and Principal level; we'll calibrate the offer to the candidate's experience and scope of impact. WHAT YOU'LL DO * Lead research projects that apply formal methods, program analysis, automated reasoning, and AI-driven techniques (including code generation and modeling) to real problems in our cloud data platform. * Translate research ideas into prototypes, then into shipped capabilities that move concrete business metrics — quality, velocity, reliability, and operational performance at scale. * Partner closely with engineering leaders, product managers, and key customers to identify high-leverage opportunities and turn them into deliverables. * Influence the engineering and product roadmap; advise leaders on which research directions are pragmatic and which are not. * Train and uplevel engineering teams on new methods, and scale those methods across the organization. * Maintain expertise at the frontier of the field through publications, conference participation, open-source contributions, and patent filings. WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR * PhD (or equivalent research experience) in Computer Science or a closely related field. * Depth across the areas this role sits at the intersection of: * Formal methods — e.g., model checking, theorem proving, SAT/SMT, program verification, type systems, or program analysis. * Distributed systems — designing, reasoning about, or verifying large-scale concurrent and distributed systems. * Software engineering — strong fundamentals; able to go from a research idea to production-quality code in collaboration with engineering teams. * AI / ML — practical experience applying modern ML, including LLMs, to systems problems such as code generation, synthesis, or automated reasoning. * 8+ years applying theoretical computer science to large-scale software systems — ideally cloud data platforms, distributed systems, or developer infrastructure. * Demonstrated ability to drive company-level initiatives in partnership with engineering and product leadership. (Weighted more heavily for Principal-level candidates.) * Track record of technical contribution to the field — publications, open-source work, patents, or comparable evidence of impact. * Comfortable in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment where impact is measured by what ships. Snowflake is seeking a Principal People Partner to serve as the primary strategic advisor to our Finance and Legal leadership organizations, including direct partnerships with the Chief Financial Officer and Chief Legal Officer / General Counsel. This is a highly visible, staff-plus role designed for an experienced People Partner who operates with executive presence, strong independent judgment, and the ability to shape people strategy at scale. This role is based in our Menlo Park office, with in-office attendance required three days per week. Due to the nature of ELT partnership, location flexibility is not available for this position. The Principal People Partner will work closely with senior Finance and Legal leaders, the G&A People Partner leadership team, and People Centers of Excellence to drive organizational effectiveness, leadership capability, and business-aligned people strategy. This role reports to the Director, G&A People Partners. THE IMPACT YOU WILL MAKE: As a Principal People Partner, you will operate at the intersection of business strategy, leadership effectiveness, and organizational design, influencing outcomes well beyond your immediate client group. You will: * Serve as a trusted advisor to executive leadership: Partner directly with the CFO, General Counsel and senior leaders as a strategic thought partner. Provide candid, data-driven counsel on people, organizational, and leadership decisions, and confidently challenge perspectives when needed to drive the best outcomes for the business. * Shape G&A people strategy: Translate G&A business priorities into an integrated people strategy, spanning org design, workforce planning, succession, performance, and leadership development. Ensure People decisions support Snowflake’s growth, innovation, and market leadership. * Lead complex, high-impact initiatives: Own and drive enterprise-level initiatives such as organizational redesigns, leadership transitions, succession planning for critical roles, talent assessments, and retention strategies. Navigate ambiguity and influence outcomes without reliance on heavy process or structure. * Act as a change leader: Guide executive leaders and managers through periods of growth, transformation, and evolving business needs. Serve as a steady presence during change, helping leaders manage organizational complexity while maintaining performance and engagement. * Coach at the most senior levels: Provide high-impact coaching to VP, SVP and C-level leaders, focused on leadership effectiveness, decision-making, team dynamics, and organizational health. * Deliver executive-ready insights: Leverage data and qualitative insights to assess organizational health across engagement, performance, attrition, and diversity. WHAT YOU BRING: * 12+ years of progressive HR experience, with significant time spent supporting VP, SVP, and C-level leaders. * Demonstrated experience partnering directly with a CFO, General Counsel or equivalent ELT leader * Strong background supporting Finance, Legal or broader G&A organizations in technology environments. * Proven ability to operate at a staff-plus or principal level, influencing outcomes beyond a single client group. * Exceptional executive presence and communication skills, including the ability to deliver crisp, persuasive, data-backed recommendations. * Deep expertise in organizational design, leadership coaching, succession planning, and navigating organizational conflict. * Strong business, financial and data acumen, with comfort using insights to challenge assumptions and guide decisions. * Ability to operate independently in fast-moving, ambiguous environments, balancing strategic thinking with hands-on execution when needed. * Experience in high-growth companies where People Partners are expected to roll up their sleeves, not rely on extensive infrastructure. * Proven ability to influence and build trust with senior leaders across diverse functions and geographies. WORK MODEL & LOCATION: Snowflake operates a hybrid work model, with three days per week in the Menlo Park office.
