These two missions are deeply connected: AI changes what's possible on the canvas, and the canvas changes what AI can mean for a team. The work this team does compounds across the whole product and across the entire design and engineering organisation. About the Role As a Staff Design Engineer, you will work across canvas feel, multiplayer interaction, and AI experiences, owning the craft layer that determines whether Miro feels like a place rather than a page. This is a build-first role: you prototype in code because it's the most honest medium, and you ship because you care about what lands in front of real people. You'll embed with product teams across the canvas and AI portfolio while holding a broader charter around quality and craft standards. You'll work closely with product designers, engineers, PMs, and researchers, and you'll be a key voice in how design engineering as a practice grows at Miro. At this level, the expectation isn't just excellent individual work; it's that your presence raises the quality of everything around you. What you'll do * Own the core interaction layer of the canvas, responsiveness, rendering, input handling, and spatial transitions,  working on the things users feel before they name. * Design and build the multiplayer moments that make working alongside someone in Miro feel genuinely different from working alone: presence, cursors, conflict, and co-creation. * Define what it means to have an AI collaborator in a visual, multiplayer space — shaping how AI outputs land on the canvas, how suggestions feel without being intrusive, and how generative results become part of a team's work. * Craft the moments of delight and magic that make Miro memorable, animations, micro-interactions, and transitions where the tool disappears and the thinking takes over. * Build the patterns, prototypes, and shared tooling that make the broader design and engineering organisation faster and more confident. * Write things down, teach by doing, and set a quality standard that propagates, contributing to coherence across the canvas, not just within your own area. * Collaborate closely with product designers, engineers, PMs, and researchers across Miro's canvas and AI portfolio. What you'll need * Fluency in React, TypeScript, and CSS, you have strong architectural opinions that come from shipping, not reading. * Hands-on experience with canvas and graphics technologies: WebGL, Canvas API, SVG, and complex layout systems. * Deep craft in motion and timing, easing curves, transition timing, hover states, and frame budgets are as deliberate for you as layout decisions. * Experience designing real-time multiplayer systems: you've thought about presence, conflict, and co-authorship as UX problems, not just engineering ones. * Experience designing AI experiences, you understand the difference between putting a text input on a page and designing around probabilistic, latent AI outputs. * The instinct to prototype in code first: you reach for the browser before Figma when exploring a new interaction, and you're fast enough that prototyping doesn't feel like a cost. * Systems thinking across a large product surface, you connect patterns, design with awareness of implications elsewhere, and contribute to coherence. * Experience with streaming APIs, structured outputs, and the UX patterns that make probabilistic systems feel reliable and worth trusting. * The ability to influence the quality of work around you, through written communication, mentorship, and setting standards that others build on. You’ll make sure they understand the value Light brings them and drive renewals and upsell. Your customers are Financial Controllers, Finance Directors and CFOs at fast-growing multinational SaaS and tech companies. Senior, technical, time-poor. They expect you to keep up, to tell them straight when something won't work, and to make their team the hero. We’re a young company, and we’re just starting to renew contracts. In parallel, we’re deploying Agentic Customer Engineers who help our customers make the most of Light. While they re-design customer workflows and deploy agents, you’ll own the stakeholders, the adoption, and the commercial in this motion. There's no set playbook yet. You'll write it, and we'll help. Key Responsibilities * Own existing customer relationships and drive adoption, renewal and upsell * Ensure that Controllers, Finance Directors, and CFOs see the value Light brings * Make finance the hero - help them do their best work and get recognition for it * Partner two-in-a-box with Agentic Customer Engineers to help customers make the most of Light and our suite of AI agents * Spot an engagement going sideways before the customer does, and fix it * Feed what you learn back into the playbook the team is building Experience & Qualifications * 5+ years owning customers in account management, customer success, consulting, or a commercial delivery role - with outcomes you can point to * You hold your own with a CFO. You will work directly with the Head of Finance & Operations across Finance, Legal & Compliance, People Operations, and General Operations providing execution-layer support across all of them. The timing matters. Light is at the stage where the foundational processes are being built for the first time. Whoever is in this role will have a hand in designing how things work, not just running what already exists. That is a rare thing to be part of early in a career, and the experience compounds fast. This is not a narrow role. On any given week you might be creating a new FinOps flow for vendor contracts tracking, helping set up a new equity structure or onboarding process, or mapping a compliance deadline across four jurisdictions. The common thread is precision, ownership, and the ability to move fast without losing detail. We are deliberately looking for someone early in their career. Not as a cost decision, as a capability decision. The best person for this role thinks natively in modern tools and AI workflows, not in the processes those tools are replacing. If you have spent years optimising legacy ways of working, this is probably not the right fit. If you instinctively reach for automation before repetition, it might be exactly right. This role can also be offered as a 3 - 6 month internship with an option to convert to a full-time role. RESPONSIBILITIES * Work across finance operations, legal & compliance, people and general operations as an execution layer directly supporting the Head of Finance & Operations * Support finance operations and processes: vendor and customer tracking, finance flows across tools etc. * Support people operations from onboarding, HR data, contracting etc. * Manage the company's legal document library, contract administration, and entity-level filing obligations, ensuring nothing falls through the cracks * Identify where recurring manual work can be automated or standardised, and build the AI-based solution rather than waiting for someone else to do so WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR * 1-3 years of experience in a fast-paced environment: MBB consulting, investment banking, a high-growth startup, or a similarly demanding setting * Degree in business, economics, finance, accounting, or a related field with demonstrable academic strength * Solid accounting fundamentals and experience in financial modelling preferred - you understand how the numbers work and can build structured analysis in Excel * Exceptional attention to detail and genuine ownership, tasks get closed, not handed back * Genuinely AI-native, you use AI tools daily, think in agents and automation first, and find manual repetitive workflows frustrating rather than comfortable. This is a hard filter, not a nice-to-have * A demonstrated interest in building, process improvements, internal tools, or workflow automation WHAT THIS ROLE IS NOT This is not a role for someone looking for a defined lane and a steady queue of tasks. You will be working across multiple functions simultaneously, often without a playbook, reporting directly to someone who moves fast and expects the same.
