Southdown is one of the leading providers of mental health services in Sussex. Staying Well is an innovative out of hours service
supporting clients experiencing a mental health crisis. We provide crisis intervention to increase resilience and coping skills,
empowering clients to safely manage their wellbeing within the community.
Staying Well Eastbourne is open 7 days per week (including bank holidays), from 5pm on weekdays and 3pm at weekends.
The role is for the Staying Well Eastbourne service, an out-of-hours crisis mental health service delivered by both Southdown and
Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.
As a Recovery Specialist, you’ll provide mental health support and hope to clients in a social setting or Crisis Café delivery
model. You will use the Recovery Model to create safety plans and explore mental health services or resources with clients.
It is a requirement of this role to attend mandatory face‑to‑face training sessions held primarily in Lewes, East Sussex during
standard office hours. Training typically takes place approximately four to five times per year.
This role would suit candidates who want to expand on a career in mental health or develop skills working within a community
setting to support people experiencing mental health challenges.

A Typical Day: Advanced Case Handling & Escalation Management * Independently manage high-profile casework with escalation factors. * Handle severe escalations (Life Safety & Severe Safety) with supervision. * Work on Executive Escalations, SOS, CCT, and VIP cases with minimal supervision. * Own high-profile media/press cases, balancing reputation risk and policy enforcement. * Manage regulatory cases, ensuring compliance and accurate documentation. * Handle high-GBV ($12K–$50K) reservation-related cases, requiring strong mediation and negotiation skills. * Serve as the first line of support for complex cases, coordinating with specialized teams in the backend. Your Expertise: * 1-year minimum tenure in L6 Service Recovery role, with promotion eligibility at 18–24 months based on performance. * Proven mastery of L7 competencies and demonstrated progress towards L8 competencies. * A track record of high-quality case handling, customer mediation, and resolution of complex, high-risk cases. * Ability to balance customer experience, risk mitigation, and business impact in decision-making. * Comfort in dealing with conflict, difficult situations, and high-stakes decisions with confidence and integrity. * Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills, with an ability to make decisions based on available information and company policies. * Demonstrated ability to mentor and influence others, fostering an inclusive and high-performance team culture. * Excellent time management, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills. * Ability to proactively identify and resolve operational issues, preventing escalations before they arise. The role We are seeking an experienced Collections Specialist who will be required to work within a fast-paced, customer focused environment, providing great customer service while maintaining the team’s excellent track record. * Case handling a high volume portfolio of customer accounts in arrears through to completion with varying and unique circumstances * Handling inbound and initiating outbound telephone calls, letters and emails with the greatest level of care, accuracy and customer service skills * Building relationships with customers through regular contact to validate, understand and resolve breaches of agreements with customers * Negotiate, implement and monitor feasible repayment solutions that take into account the customer's circumstances while balancing the best interests of the business * Work with a wide range of teams within the company to understand, strategise and implement the most appropriate course of action for each account * Working closely with Collections Management and the Head of Collections to review and develop recovery strategies * Instructing, liaising and monitoring third parties such as debt collection agencies and Paralegals to ensure the best outcome is achieved * Ensuring compliance with all appropriate legislation regulatory body guidelines * Adhering to our company policies and procedures * Upholding iwoca’s company reputation at all times * Updating databases and systems in order to keep an accurate record of activities, observations and outcomes within the recovery process The requirements Essential: * Demonstrates curiosity to use and learn more about AI tools. You’ll already be comfortable using AI tools in practical ways to help solve problems, increase productivity and improve quality of work, showing good judgement about when to use them and the ability to explain the reasoning behind that use. * A level of German, C1 that allows you to feel comfortable talking to clients, negotiate arrangements and handle tense situations We look for people who are smart, humble, motivated and who are always looking to improve. Ideally you'll have: * Nice to have 1 year debt recovery experience, ideally in the commercial/business sector * Empathy, forbearance and professionalism * Strong communication skills, accuracy and confidence * The ability to deal with a variety of challenges, innovate and think on your feet * Business acumen, entrepreneurial spirit with real enthusiasm for helping SMEs. Experience within the finance industry is advantageous. The salary We expect to pay from 34.000 € — 46.000 € for this role.
