Backend Engineer – Digital Enterprise (HR & Finance) At Stegra, we are building a next-generation steel plant - and digital capabilities are a core part of how we operate, optimize, and scale our operations. We are now looking for a Backend Engineer to join our Digital Domain supporting HR and Finance. What you’ll do In this role, you will be part of a cross-functional team within our Digital Enterprise function, working closely with both business and technical colleagues. Your day-to-day work will include: Developing and maintain backend services that enable reliable HR and Finance operations Designing APIs and integrations that enable reliable and scalable communication between systems Working with both synchronous and asynchronous patterns, including event-driven approaches where relevant Contributing to how services are structured, interact, and evolve over time Collaborating with HR and Finance stakeholders to understand needs and turn them into working solutions Breaking down problems into clear technical components and development tasks Ensuring that security, data protection, and access control are embedded in the solutions we build How we work Modular, microservice-based architecture Combination of well-designed APIs and event-driven integrations Integration treated as a core capability Systems designed to evolve and be replaceable over time Iterative development - delivering early and improving continuously We make use of modern tools, including AI-assisted development, while placing strong emphasis on understanding problems, making sound technical decisions, and building solutions that work in practice. What you’ll bring A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience A few years of experience in backend development Experience working with APIs and/or microservice-based systems Interest in how systems are designed and how components interact over time Familiarity with asynchronous patterns (events, messaging, queues) Ability to break down complex problems into structured technical solutions Comfortable working directly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders Interest in understanding business processes and how digital solutions support them Meriting: Experience with Kotlin / Spring or similar Experience with cloud, DevOps practices, or CI/CD Experience working with testing, monitoring, or production systems How you will grow We believe the best engineers don’t work in silos. About the role As Backend Engineer, you will be part of a small and experienced team with broad responsibility for the technical platform behind NA-KD’s online business. The team works with both new functionality and continuous improvement of existing systems. A large part of the work takes place in an established .NET environment with important commerce flows that have grown with the business. You will help maintain, improve and develop these systems, while also contributing to modern services, integrations and event-driven capabilities that support communication between different parts of the platform. While much of our business logic remains in a mature .NET monolith, we continue to evolve the surrounding architecture where it adds value. You will work closely with developers, internal stakeholders and adjacent teams within ERP and Data Engineering. The role includes understanding needs, clarifying requirements, discussing solutions and contributing to stable, maintainable backend services.
