The project focuses on access to and participation in cultural activities that are relevant to persons living with dementia. Despite increasing efforts to develop dementia-friendly societies, persons living with dementia often face limited opportunities to participate in community life. Cultural activities can promote participation, well-being, and social inclusion, yet access is frequently constrained by individual, social, environmental, and organisational barriers. Previous research has primarily focused on cultural activities as therapeutic interventions, while little is known about how persons living with dementia and their care partners access and engage in cultural activities as part of everyday life.
The overall aim of the project is therefore to co-create and evaluate person-centred support strategies that strengthen access to and participation in cultural activities that are meaningful and relevant to persons living with dementia and their care partners. The project comprises four interconnected studies involving persons living with dementia, care partners, and representatives of community-based cultural organisations and venues. A combination of co-creation approaches, qualitative and quantitative methods, and mixed-method designs will be used to generate knowledge about how places and contexts for cultural activities can be made more accessible, inclusive, and supportive of meaningful participation.
The PhD student will be part of Centre for a dementia-friendly society with a person-centred mindset - DEMSAM. DEMSAM is a research and collaboration centre at the University of Gothenburg, working together with Chalmers University of Technology. The City of Gothenburg, the Västra Götaland Region, the Gothenburg Region, and the wider society. As such, DEMSAM brings together research, practice, and societal actors to co-create knowledge that can improve the lives of people living with dementia and relatives. The project is conducted in collaboration with researchers from several disciplines and includes both independent work and collaboration within a research team. The project involves collection and analysis of data in Swedish as well as communication with Swedish-speaking participants

Project description: Prostate cancer is the most common cancer among men and primarily affects older patients who often have multiple comorbidities and require several medications. Modern androgen receptor pathway inhibitors (ARPIs) have substantially improved survival in advanced prostate cancer. At the same time, many patients receive direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) to prevent stroke and thromboembolic events. ARPIs can alter the activity of drug-metabolizing enzymes and transport proteins, leading to clinically important drug–drug interactions. These interactions may reduce DOAC exposure, increasing the risk of thromboembolic complications, while uncertainty about their clinical impact may also limit the optimal use of effective cancer therapies. Despite increasing mechanistic knowledge, major questions remain regarding which patients are most at risk and how treatment can be individualized to maximize both efficacy and safety. The overall aim of this PhD project is to develop precision dosing strategies for the safe and effective co-administration of ARPIs and DOACs. The project combines laboratory research, clinical studies, and advanced pharmacometric modelling through four integrated work packages: 1. Development and validation of LC–MS/MS methods for quantifying enzalutamide and selected DOACs in human plasma. 2. In vitro studies using human liver microsomes to investigate drug metabolism, interaction mechanisms, and the impact of genetic variation. 3. A prospective clinical pharmacokinetic study including biomarker analyses and clinical follow-up. 4. Population pharmacokinetic modelling to identify risk factors and develop individualized dosing strategies. The successful candidate will receive multidisciplinary training in clinical pharmacology, pharmacokinetics, pharmacogenetics, bioanalysis, pharmacometrics, and precision medicine. The project is supervised by an interdisciplinary team with complementary expertise from academia, clinical practice, and the pharmaceutical industry, providing a unique translational research environment spanning mechanistic laboratory studies, clinical research, and precision medicine. Project description: Synapses relay flow of information between neurons and constitute the minimal processing units of our brains. Given their importance for brain computations, synaptic imbalances are thought to underlie a majority of neuropsychiatric, psychiatric, and neurodevelopmental diseases. A large fraction of the brain’s synapses undergoes controlled removal during development, but formation and balanced removal of synapses continue throughout life, presumably to support learning and memory. An excessive loss of synapses during late adolescence is thought to underlie schizophrenia. However, while synaptic transmission is well-characterized at the molecular level, much less is known about the cell biological processes that govern their structural assembly and disassembly. The Sterky lab aims to identify key molecular steps during synapse assembly, stabilization and disassembly (see https://sterkylab.se). For this, we focus on synaptic cell adhesion molecules, proteins on the neuron’s surface that physically interact with the contacting neuron, the proteins they in turn interact with and means by which they may be regulated. Several of these proteins are genetically linked to human diseases such as schizophrenia, and the long-term goal of this research is to develop means to normalize synaptic imbalances that underlie human disease. This project will address the synaptic role of a specific protein family by experimentally analyzing both genetically modified human neurons and mice. An array of experimental techniques will be used, including advanced cell culture, CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing, protein and transcript analysis, confocal microscopy and assessment of synaptic functions. Previous experience from work with laboratory animals and/or electrophysiological recordings would be considered an asset. The Institute of Clinical Sciences is one of six Institutes within Sahlgrenska Academy at the University of Gothenburg. We conduct research and education that puts people's health and quality of life in focus. We represent 16 different research areas and are divided into four sections. Through a fruitful collaboration with the healthcare and Sahlgrenska University Hospital, we have developed joint projects and meeting places that benefits both health care and research. Research in the field of medical radiation science is conducted within most branches of radiation physics, such as dosimetry, detectors and measurement techniques, radiobiology, and radiation protection; as well as applications in radioecology, radiation protection preparedness, nuclear medicine (diagnostics and therapy), X-rays, MRIs, and radiation therapy (external and brachytherapy). The researcher will work within a research group working with dosimetry in radiotherapy. The group is established wihin the research area since several years back and consists mainly of medical physicists but involves also oncologists for more direct clinical questions and assessments. Currently there is one PhD-student working within the group. Adj. professor Anna Bäck and PhD Fredrik Nordström will be the persons working most closely with the new reasearcher. Duties The work will include simulations of variations that will occur during radiotherapy to study the effect of these variations as well as calculations of differenty types of complexity metrics for clinical treatment plans. The work will therefore include programming and developents of sofwares. The work will be mainly based on theoretical analyzes but some dosimetric measurements in clinical radiotherapy beams will be included in the work. Also treatment planning is part of the work. Qualifications To be eliglibe for this appointment the applicant is required to have a doctoral degree within radiotherapy as well as a master degree in physics. Experience within treatment planning for radiotherapy and dosimetric measurements in clinical beams for external radiotherapy as well as good knowledwe within programming is a must. Research experience within the subject on treatment plan complexity and dosimetric uncertainties within external radiotherapy are meritorious. The applicant must be able to work in a structured manner, both independently and as part of a group. Accuracy and the ability to collaborate and take initiative are important qualities. The applicant should have very good writing and communication skills in Swedish and English.
