The role
Ignites Asia is the Financial Times' news service for professionals working in the asset management industry across Asia. Our
readers rely on us for exclusive reporting and timely news and analysis that help them make informed business decisions.
We are looking for an experienced financial journalist to join our Hong Kong-based team as Deputy Editor. This is primarily a
reporting role with additional editing responsibilities, offering a senior reporter the opportunity to focus on producing original
journalism while helping shape our daily publication.
The successful candidate will cover one of Asia's most important financial sectors at a time of significant change. Asset
managers are navigating shifting regulatory reform, private market growth and technological disruption. We are looking for a
journalist who can develop strong industry contacts, break exclusive stories and explain the developments that matter most to our
readers.
Alongside reporting, the Deputy Editor will edit stories, help maintain editorial standards and publish the daily newsletter in
the Managing Editor's absence. The role requires strong news judgement, excellent writing skills and the ability to work
confidently to daily deadlines.
Based in Hong Kong, you will play an integral role in an enthusiastic, ambitious and supportive team of journalists, helping
produce the daily news service our readers rely on.

THE ROLE / POSITION OVERVIEW FT Specialist, a business division of the Financial Times, is seeking a Deputy Editor for Health Payer Specialist, a publication covering one of the most dynamic sectors in the U.S. economy: health insurance. Published three times a week, Health Payer Specialist delivers essential news and intelligence to insurance companies, helping them grow and stay ahead of industry developments. This role is ideal for a journalist with strong experience covering the health insurance sector, a proven track record to break news, and a sharp analytical approach. You will produce both fast-turnaround scoops and in-depth trend analysis, while also interpreting sophisticated financial documents such as SEC filings and earnings reports. As Deputy Editor, you will work closely with the Managing Editor to shape coverage, contribute to editorial strategy, and step in to lead editing when required. As part of a small, high-performing team, you will play a key role in driving editorial output while also having the opportunity to grow into broader leadership responsibilities. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES * Report and write about about four articles per week and at times create video content or other formats, when appropriate * Show your expertise on the subject matter by writing with clarity, insight and depth * Establish and maintain close relationships with insurance executives and their companies * Serve as back-up to the Managing Editor, and help to generate story ideas and shape coverage * Travel to industry events and meet with prospects to stay on top of the latest industry trends * Work with other departments to produce videos, graphics etc. as necessary for editorial coverage * On occasion, moderate webcasts or panels at events REQUIRED SKILLS / EXPERIENCE * At least five years’ experience in business journalism, ideally covering health insurance or related sectors * Experience at a daily or wire publication with a focus on breaking news * Strong background of generating scoops and differentiated content for a niche audience * Editing experience and ability to refine others’ work * Ability to interpret financial information, including SEC filings and earnings reports * Strong news judgment, deadline skills, and understanding of audience needs * Excellent communication skills and ability to build industry sources * High levels of initiative, creativity, and resilience WHAT’S IN IT FOR YOU? The Deputy Project Control Manager supports the Project Control Manager in planning, coordinating, and overseeing all project control functions, including cost control, scheduling, progress measurement, forecasting, and reporting. The role ensures that project performance is accurately measured and communicated, enabling effective decision-making and timely corrective actions. Acting as a key interface between engineering, procurement, construction, and finance teams, the Deputy Project Control Manager helps ensure alignment between scope, schedule, cost, and risk throughout the project lifecycle. The role may act on behalf of the Project Control Manager when required. Key Responsibilities Project Controls Support Assist in establishing and maintaining integrated project control systems covering cost, schedule, progress, and forecasting. Support development and maintenance of project budgets, cost breakdown structures (CBS), and work breakdown structures (WBS). Ensure alignment between project scope, schedule, and cost baselines. Cost & Schedule Monitoring Monitor project cost and schedule performance against approved baselines. Support preparation of forecasts, including Estimate at Completion (EAC) and cash flow projections. Analyse variances and performance trends, identifying root causes and potential mitigation measures. Reporting & Performance Analysis Prepare accurate and timely project control reports, dashboards, and performance metrics. Assist in tracking commitments, accruals, and progress measurement. Coordinate with planning and cost teams to ensure accurate progress reporting. Collaboration & Governance Work closely with Project Managers, Engineers, Planners, Cost Controllers, and Construction teams to integrate project controls into daily execution. Support development, implementation, and adherence to project control procedures and governance. Provide guidance and mentoring to junior project control staff. Continuous Improvement Identify opportunities to improve project control processes, tools, and reporting practices. Capture and apply lessons learned to enhance future project performance. Competencies and Experience Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Project Management, Finance, Quantity Surveying, or a related field. Minimum of 5–7 years of experience in project controls, cost control, or planning roles within industrial, infrastructure, or EPC projects. Solid understanding of project cost control, scheduling, progress measurement, and forecasting. Experience with project control and planning tools (e.g., cost control systems, scheduling software). Good knowledge of contracts, change management, and project governance. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Effective communication and stakeholder coordination capabilities. High attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
