Due to the nature of the work and the customers, you must hold enhanced DV Security Clearance. As a Data Engineer, you will assist in the development of a secure batch/real-time data platform for a government client leveraging the latest commercial and open-source technologies. This involves getting data from a variety of different sources, getting it into the right format, assuring alignment to target models, and ensuring that data can be made available to downstream consumers. Duties & Responsibilities * Code, test, and document new or modified data pipelines that meet functional / non- functional business requirements * Conduct logical and physical database design * Expand and grows data platform capabilities to solve new data and analytics problems * Conduct data analysis, identifying feasible solutions and enhancements to data processing challenges * Ensure that data models are consistent with the data architecture (e.g. entity names, relationships and definitions) * Perform root cause analysis on internal and external data and processes to answer specific business questions and identify opportunities for improvement  Core Experience & Competencies The successful candidate will have a Bachelor's degree and meet all of the following essential criteria and additionally have some experience (or a genuine interest in learning) from the preferred criteria. Essential * Data pipeline development using data processing technologies and frameworks * Agile or other rapid application development methods * Data modelling and understanding of different data structures and their benefits and limitations under particular use cases * Experience in Public Cloud services, such as AWS. Practical experience with core services such as EC2, RDS, Lambda, Athena & Glue would be even better! * Configuring and tuning Relational and NoSQL databases, including both query processing and query planning, or other data processing infrastructure * Programming or scripting languages, such as Python * Test Driven Development with appropriate tools and frameworks Preferred * Familiar with CI tools such as Jenkins/Drone * Knowledge of configuration tools such as Ansible & Packer * Use / Knowledge of Terraform for IaC deployments * Experience in Linux and Windows  Aker Systems Attributes At Aker we work as a team; we are collaborative, hardworking, open, and delivery obsessed. As a Lead Data Platform Engineer, you will help lead the development of backend services for a government client leveraging the latest commercial and open-source technologies. This involves designing, developing, documenting and deploying backend services with a focus on high availability, low latency and scalability.  Duties & Responsibilities * Design, develop, document and deploy new or enhanced features to our backend services that meet functional / non-functional business requirements  * Actively participate in the team’s elaboration and estimation of user stories  * Build frequent, small releases to maintain the team’s momentum  * Collaborate closely with other engineers in our cross-functional feature teams; ensuring that others can cover for you, and that you can cover for them  * Build, optimise and operate our Continuous Deployment pipelines  * Maintain operational responsibility for the services that your team owns  Core Experience & Competencies The successful candidate will have a Bachelor's degree or greater in Computer Science or a related field or an equivalent of at least 5 years of working experience in a similar capacity.  You will have demonstrated the following competencies to the proficiency level appropriate to the seniority of the role. * JAVA programming experience as the core language, including Spring Boot. * Fluent in writing JAVA coding. * Experience with Kafka or a similar platform. * Experience with Scala and Spark. * Integrating with backing services, such as PostgreSQL, Redis or S3 * Good engineering practices including continuous delivery, clean code, documentation, defensive programming, automated testing and code reviews * Working in Agile development and/or DevOps teams * Using GitHub/GitLab for source control * Test Driven Development with appropriate tools and frameworks * Experience in Big Data technologies * Experience in Public Cloud services, such as AWS Aker Systems Attributes At Aker we work as a team; we are collaborative, hardworking, open, and delivery obsessed. A UK Government Security Check (SC) clearance is required for this role. If you don’t hold SC clearance, we will support you to apply assuming you have lived and worked in the UK for a minimum of 5 years. As a Lead DevOps Engineer, you will help lead the development and implementation of secure cloud environments hosting data and batch/real-time analytical platforms for public and private sector clients, leveraging the latest commercial and open-source technologies and techniques. This also involves building automated deployments using configuration management technology, deploying new modules, upgrades and fixes to test and production environments. You will: * Build, test and deploy cloud-based infrastructure and applications using CI/CD and Infrastructure-as-Code * Contribute to the coding of custom test automation frameworks * Perform script maintenance and updates due to changes in requirements or implementations * Assist with setup/maintenance of environments for both manual and automated testing * Assist in production support through the investigation and resolution of incidents * Perform ongoing routine application maintenance tasks * Assist in conducting gap analysis, identifying feasible alternative solutions, and assisting in the scope of modifications * Participate in the contingency planning, including reliable backup and restore procedures * Document functions and changes to new or modified modules and test activities/results * Mentoring and driving the team to deliver to the start our customer's require CORE COMPETENCIES The successful candidate will have a Bachelor's degree or greater. An equivalent of at least 5 plus years' of working experience in a DevOps capacity is also required for this position. You will have demonstrated the following competencies to the proficiency level appropriate to the seniority of the role: * Commercial Experience in deploying and operating infrastructure (network, servers, services) and applications on AWS and other cloud environments * Developing and operating using open source and commercial software within a cloud-centric environment * Server build and administration, Linux and Windows * GitHub/GitLab for source control and performing code reviews as part of the build and deployment cycle * CI/CD and Infrastructure-as-Code technologies, e.g. Terraform and Ansible * Test Driven Development with appropriate tools and frameworks * Experience of cloud orchestration and containerisation technologies, such as Kubernetes and Docker * Knowledge of large-scale databases and distributed technologies, such as RDS Knowledge of distributed event streaming technologies, such as Kafka * Write/maintain automation script using Bash/Shell or python scripting languages * Experience of mentoring and leading people around you and taking point on key decisions  Aker Systems Attributes At Aker we work as a team; we are collaborative, hardworking, open, and delivery obsessed.
