About the Role As a staff engineer for backend services at Redpin, you will be working on the designing, creating and running the product catalogue for some of our greenfield new products. We have a long roadmap ahead of us and rarely run out of interesting problems to tackle. To name some of the products we are running – we have our own core account/payments infrastructure adapted to a variety of customer segments such as Legal, Real Estate and Notaries. We work in full-stack teams, grouped under common domains. As staff engineer you will work on early engineering phases to lay the groundwork for the teams in your area. What You'll Do * Own the Architecture: Define, align, and maintain the target architecture for your domain, ensuring all services and projects follow best practices and long-term technical vision. * Design & Develop Systems: Build robust, scalable backend services using Java and Spring Boot * Build & Enhance APIs: Design, develop, and maintain high-quality APIs powering web and mobile experiences. * Drive Performance & Security: Ensure systems meet high standards for performance, reliability, and security across all layers. * Integrate Cloud Technologies: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate and optimize cloud services within the platform. * Champion Code Quality: Write clean, maintainable, well-tested code and establish coding standards for the team. * Lead Through Influence: Partner closely with the Engineering Manager and other engineers to deliver architectural designs effectively and consistently. * Mentor & Upskill: Guide, mentor, and support engineers through code reviews, technical discussions, and continuous improvement initiatives. * Elevate Engineering Practices: Advocate for best practices in CI/CD, observability, testing, and automation across the team. What You’ll Need * 8+ years of experience building large-scale backend or full-stack applications. * Deep expertise in a backend framework such as Spring / Spring Boot. * Strong problem-solving skills and passion for building user-centric, scalable systems. * Solid understanding of Object-oriented programming & design patterns, Exception handling, memory management, Spring components (controllers, services, repositories, security) * Proficiency in RESTful API design and development. * Ability to think strategically, break down complex problems, and drive cross-team alignment. * Strong communication and organizational skills to influence engineering direction. * Create and Review architectures, code, and design proposals to ensure high standards and alignment. * Work closely with product, design, and cross-functional teams to deliver user-centric solutions. * Identify bottlenecks and drive improvements in system performance, reliability, and maintainability. * Champion engineering best practices, automation, and continuous improvement initiatives. * Collaborate on long-term architectural strategies and technical roadmaps. Bonus Points * Mastery over Java’s core APIs, such as collections, streams, and concurrency frameworks. * Experience working in a B2B fintech environment would be an added advantage. About the role As a Senior Staff Software Engineer on our Maia team, you'll be at the heart of everything we do: working on agentic AI systems, building new tools and integrations, and staying finger-on-the-pulse with the latest developments in Gen AI. This isn't BAU engineering - this is high-visibility, high-impact work where your decisions shape the product. You'll be driving architecture, mentoring engineers, and feeding into strategy. Things move quickly here. Requirements evolve, new opportunities emerge, and we need someone who thrives in that environment. If you're an expert Java engineer and already experimenting with Claude, Gemini, and agentic workflows - and you want to do that at scale in a world-class engineering team - this is the role for you. This role is hybrid to our Manchester office. We value collaboration and believe the best work happens when we're together -so we ask for a minimum of 2 days per week in the office.
