You will directly report to the Performance Analysis Team Lead and collaborate closely with component teams, including ML Framework developers, Compiler and Runtime teams, Infrastructure engineers, and Product Management. Your work will directly influence the efficiency and scalability of our ML software solutions, significantly impacting our business by enabling reliable and performant AI solutions for customers. THE TEAM The ML Software Performance Analysis team is a part of the wider ML Software Engineering organisation, responsible for delivering optimised, proprietary machine learning solutions. Our team consists of experienced engineers and domain experts focused on rigorous performance benchmarking, in-depth analysis, and cross-layer optimization from single chip to large-scale, distributed systems. We work closely with both internal partners and external collaborators to ensure our solutions meet the highest standards of performance, efficiency, and scalability. Our core responsibilities include: * ML Software Stack Performance Reports – We publish regular reports that provide a comprehensive view of the performance status of the ML software stack * End-to-End Performance Optimization – We take a holistic approach to performance, ensuring that local optimizations do not lead to global regressions. Our work spans component boundaries, enabling balanced and efficient performance across the entire stack RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES * Own performance analysis across the full ML stack, from model execution down to hardware utilization * Identify bottlenecks and regression trends using profiling, benchmarking, and deep system analysis * Drive cross-team optimizations involving frameworks, compilers, runtime, and infrastructure * Design and maintain benchmarking environments for synthetic, focused benchmarks up to large-scale ML workloads * Produce performance reports that translate low-level findings into actionable insights * Ensure local optimizations improve global system performance, not just isolated components * Partner with engineering teams to guide performance improvements and validate impact CANDIDATE PROFILE ESSENTIAL: * A passion for your work and the ability to thrive in uncertain and complex environments * Strong programming skills in Python/C/C++, with a focus on performance-sensitive applications * Solid understanding of computer architecture, performance profiling, and low-level system behaviour (CPU, memory, I/O) * Experience with benchmarking and analysing complex, distributed systems * Familiarity with Linux-based development environments and tools * Strong problem-solving skills and ability to interpret and communicate performance data clearly DESIRABLE * Knowledge of ML frameworks (ideally PyTorch) and their performance characteristics * Experience with performance analysis in GPU-accelerated environments (CUDA, ROCm, etc.) * Familiarity of hardware performance characteristics especially in ML context including high-speed networking (e.g. RoCE, RDMA) * Familiarity with distributed computing frameworks (ideally collectives experience) * Experience building dashboards or visualizations for performance monitoring (e.g., Grafana, Prometheus, or custom tooling) * Exposure to performance regression tracking and CI pipelines for performance validation BENEFITS In addition to a competitive salary, Graphcore offers annual leave policy, medical and dental health plans, a gym card, and employee pension (matched up to 4%). To support our rapid development roadmap, we’re looking for a Senior NPU SDK Software Engineer to join our SDK team. In this role, you will be responsible for the Python programming API of our chip, PyTorch customization, and the compiler for end-to-end applications. We will trust you with: * To take care of the full life-cycle of our SDK features in one of the components, including the simulator and compiler, or the API and the infrastructure of our SDK; * Set and uphold high standards for code quality, maintainability, testing, and release readiness; * Conduct code reviews and improve engineering practices and ensure robust documentation within the expertise domain; * Work closely with other team (Digital Design, Firmware, Applications), translate complex algorithm or hardware specifications into efficient, user friendly, and testable software behaviour, and provide technical feedback; * Provide support to internal teams and customers to enable them to develop applications quickly using our SDK or help solve any issues; * Contribute to improving power consumption performance, latency, and any performance bottlenecks for our efficient edge-AI solution; * Keep innovating, bring latest trend of the technology and best practice to keep our product competitive in the market. What will you need to succeed: * Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field; * Strong Python development skills; * Extensive experience with PyTorch and its customization, including knowledge of internal mechanics; * Proven track record of designing modular, maintainable and testable software architecture; * Experience in low-power resource-constrained embedded programming; * Familiarity with hardware/software co-design concepts; * Highly flexible, with a readiness to step outside your immediate domain to drive team success; * A strong growth mindset with an active drive to master new tools and technologies; * Great communication skills. Nice to have: * Modern C++ development skills (including C++17/20) would be a big plus, or a willingness to expand the knowledge; * Exposure to bare-metal firmware development; * Solid understanding of computer architecture, particularly ARM or RISC-V-based systems, and basic digital design knowledge is a big plus; * Familiarity with ML compilers like MLIR, IREE or PyTorch compiler (Dynamo); * Familiarity with the runtime of TinyML or EdgeAI runtimes (TensorFlow Lite Micro, execuTorch); * Knowledge of SNN (Spiking Neural Networks). JOB SUMMARY Reporting to a Team Lead in the frameworks team you will play a pivotal role in designing, implementing, optimising, maintaining and supporting the software required to ensure the machine learning accelerators that Graphcore develop enjoy first-class support in state-of-the-art machine learning frameworks such as PyTorch and Triton (note: “Triton” here refers to the Triton language/compiler and not the inference framework). This role sees you joining our Triton team, where you will be part of a SCRUM team working on delivering new features, optimise performance, reviewing code changes, writing technical documentation, working with upstream communities, maintaining the code base and supporting users. In this role you will closely collaborate with other engineers, both within the Triton team as well as other engineering teams. You help the team coordinate and deliver complex, open-ended technical tasks. You are pro-active and an excellent communicator. You will develop deep expertise in the Triton project and will (in time) contribute to the team’s technical direction and processes. You understand the importance of managing code quality and code complexity and balancing this against the need to deliver business outcomes. CANDIDATE PROFILE Essential: * Demonstrable strong software engineering skills. * Demonstrable experience of Python/C++ development. * Demonstrable experience of compiler development. Desirable: * Experience with MLIR (or more generally: SSA-based IRs) is highly desirable. * Demonstrable knowledge of AI/ML. * Understanding of computing architectures. * Experience of maintaining and supporting a complex code base. * Experience in profiling / optimising high performance code. * Experience of writing ML kernels. * Experience of using and/or development of ML Frameworks. * Experience in a computationally intensive engineering field.
