We’re looking for several Senior Machine Learning Engineers to join our London teams. WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING In this role, you’ll help us develop the algorithmic and machine-learning systems that power Deliveroo, making automated decisions at massive scale across our three-sided marketplace. Based on the team you join, here's what your role may look like: 1. Ads – building and productionising ranking and bidding models that decide which sponsored content to show, balancing advertiser outcomes with a high-quality user experience. 2. New Verticals – developing recommendation and catalogue-quality models that help customers discover the right grocery and retail items while supporting growth and efficiency. 3. Consumer – improving modern recommendation, ranking and search systems that shape how customers discover and choose what to order, driving engagement and long-term growth. 4. Care – building ML and LLM-powered systems that support customer care operations, from understanding intent and sentiment to suggesting fair and consistent resolutions. 5. Merchants – owning and evolving core ML models that support our merchant ecosystem (for example around classification, matching and lead-scoring), and building new models and AI agents that help partners grow their business. Irrespective of the team, you will: * Design and build sophisticated machine learning models to solve fuzzy business problems * Productionise end-to-end ML solutions, moving from initial concept to shipping code that drives measurable impact on our global marketplace. * Collaborate in cross-functional squads alongside software engineers, data scientists, and product managers to build intelligent decision-making machines. * Mentor junior colleagues and contribute to our robust technical review process to maintain high engineering standards. WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO THRIVE Our ideal candidate will bring strong expertise in some of these areas and curiosity to grow in others: * Significant experience applying algorithmic solutions to complex business problems at scale. * Deep understanding of machine learning fundamentals and a proven ability to know when and how to apply them effectively. * Demonstrated ownership of end-to-end model productionisation, with a strong background in software engineering principles. * A bias for simplicity and a focus on achieving tangible business impact over theoretical complexity. * Exceptional programming and statistical skills, with the ability to translate ambiguous objectives into technical reality. We’re looking for a Senior Machine Learning Engineer to join our London team. In this role, you’ll help shape the decision-making systems that directly impact customer experience, trust, and fairness at Deliveroo. This role is based in our London office with a hybrid setup, typically 3 days in the office. WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING You’ll be joining the Care team. Care is an area with significant opportunity and real customer impact; you’ll take ownership of existing models and help define strong ML foundations in spaces that are still evolving, from LLM-powered automation to customer compensation logic. Here’s what your day-to-day might look like: * Own the full ML lifecycle: Lead the design, development, and productionisation of machine learning models used in customer support and high-stakes decision systems. * Architect for reliability: Build robust monitoring, evaluation, and alerting frameworks to detect model underperformance, drift, or unexpected behaviour in real-time. * Collaborate on product strategy: Partner closely with Product Managers to turn ambiguous customer problems into robust, scalable ML solutions. * Drive technical excellence: Provide technical leadership in areas with unclear ownership, setting the gold standard for ML quality, reliability, and maintainability. * Bridge science and engineering: Work with data scientists and engineers across the global organisation to embed models into high-performance, scalable systems. WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO THRIVE Essential * Significant experience as an ML Engineer or Data Scientist, with a proven ability to write high-quality production code in Python. * Demonstrated ownership of productionising Generative AI workstreams or Agentic AI projects, including a deep understanding of LLMs, transformers, and fine-tuning. * Proven ability to deploy and manage models using modern infrastructure tools such as Docker, Kubernetes, and CircleCI. * Strong foundational knowledge of traditional ML and evaluation techniques, balanced with a bias for simplicity and measurable business impact. * A collaborative mindset with experience mentoring peers and a drive to solve complex, real-world problems at scale. Nice to Have * Experience with evaluation harnesses and frameworks specifically designed for Generative AI. * Familiarity with observability, monitoring, and safety techniques for deployed GenAI systems. * Experience working with strongly typed languages, such as Go. We’re looking for a Senior Machine Learning Engineer to join our London office as part of a Global DoorDash engineering team (working hybrid, 3 days in the office). You’ll be conceptualizing, designing, implementing, and validating algorithmic improvements to the search and personalization experiences at the heart of our fast-growing New Verticals business, encompassing grocery, convenience, and retail delivery. WHAT YOU’LL DO You’ll be joining the New Verticals Personalisation team (Search & Recommendations). This team sits at the heart of how customers discover and shop across grocery, convenience, and retail categories, and is a key driver of the growth of Deliveroo's expanding New Verticals business. Working across the wider DoorDash engineering team, you’ll help shape intelligent, consumer-facing experiences that solve real customer problems at scale. This role spans a broad range of cutting-edge machine learning challenges, including modern recommendation and ranking systems, real-time decisioning as well as GenAI-powered experiences. Here’s what your day-to-day might look like: * Design and build production-grade machine learning and optimisation systems that power Deliveroo's New Verticals search and recommendations at scale. * Partner with engineering and product leaders to help shape the product roadmap leveraging ML. * Provide technical leadership across multiple product areas, identifying and prioritising opportunities for high-impact algorithmic improvements. * Mentor junior team members, and lead cross functional pods to generate collective impact across the business. WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO THRIVE Our ideal candidate will bring strong expertise in some of these areas and curiosity to grow in others: * Proven track record of designing and shipping impactful algorithms that deliver measurable business outcomes in a production environment. * Deep expertise in applied ML for Search/NLP/IR/RecSys - both classical and deep learning based. Additional familiarity with explore/exploit/MAB algorithms, LLMs, and causal inference techniques are a plus. * Machine learning background in Python; experience with PyTorch or TensorFlow preferred. * Ability to think holistically about business problems, moving beyond technical implementation to influence long-term strategy and roadmap. * Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence both technical and non-technical leaders across the global organisation.
