FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE The Cloud Engineering Team builds cloud-based solutions, supports the cloud platform and helps to drive its adoption and expansion while also collaborating with other teams. Furthermore, the Cloud Engineering Team looks after the on-prem IT infrastructure.   The primary function of this position will be to take responsibility for the successful development, management and maintenance of software services to ensure that the production services perform effectively, while maintaining a high level of internal customer satisfaction. This includes developing, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing key functional areas, particularly internal applications and servers in a hybrid infrastructure. There are vast opportunities for professional growth and to make an impact within the company.   As a Senior Software Infrastructure Engineer, the position will suit someone who has a strong software background and problem-solving mindset, demonstrates critical-thinking and passion for automating tasks. Due to the nature of hybrid infrastructure, some tasks may require to be on site. Whilst our primary hub is in London, we will consider candidates who can work out of our Oxford or San Sebastian locations.  EXPERIENCE - ESSENTIALS * Translate complex business requirements into scalable, high-availability software architectures. * Lead the evolution of a robust hybrid-cloud environment, optimizing the interplay between on-premises servers and cloud services for maximum performance and cost-efficiency. * Drive a "manual-work-as-a-bug" culture by developing automation for application deployment, monitoring, and self-healing systems. * Establish best practices for writing modular, performant, and maintainable code. Conduct rigorous peer reviews and mentor junior engineers to elevate the team's collective technical bar. * Design and oversee comprehensive testing strategies to ensure high-level service reliability and seamless CI/CD pipelines. * Act as a technical consultant to internal business units, translating technical constraints into business opportunities and ensuring a high-touch customer service experience. EXPERIENCE - DESIRABLE * Experience designing and versioning robust RESTful or GraphQL APIs that serve as the backbone for internal business applications. * Expert knowledge of microservices vs. monolithic architectures, and when to utilize event-driven patterns. * Experience designing and versioning robust RESTful or GraphQL APIs that serve as the backbone for internal business applications. * Advanced proficiency in Terraform, CDK, or CloudFormation to ensure infrastructure is version-controlled and reproducible. * Proficiency in implementing full-stack observability using tools like Prometheus, Grafana, or ELK Stack. OUR TEAM The IC Team is responsible for the design and test of the integrated circuits which operate at deep-cryogenic temperatures and interact with the qubits. This role is a unique chance to work at the bleeding edge of technology development where you will measure, optimise, and analyse the performance of innovative circuits to tackle the engineering challenge of implementing a large-scale quantum computer in silicon. YOUR PROFILE We are looking for a Head of Data to lead the strategy, architecture, and execution of our unified data platform. As our data footprint grows across on-premises infrastructure, VPCs, and our own SaaS instances, we need a leader who can first help build the strategy to bring it all together and then get their hands dirty executing on it.  You will own the vision for how we collect, organize, govern, and leverage our data assets, so that we can productionise them and provide insights to our customers that they could not get anywhere else. You'll build and lead a small but growing team of Data and Database Engineers and work cross-functionally with your teammates from Product Technology, and the rest of business, to turn raw data into strategic value.  WHAT YOU'LL DO  * Define and execute the company's data platform strategy, with a focus on unifying disparate data sources into a scalable, reliable data lake /lakehouse architecture * Architect and oversee the build of a unified data platform spanning on-prem, cloud, and customer-side environments * Evaluate, select, and implement the right tools and platforms (e.g.,Snowflake, DB2, dbt, Airflow or equivalent) * Stay hands-on! Contribute directly to design decisions, data modeling, pipeline development, and platform builds alongside the team * Lead, grow, and mentor a Data team. You are the one to set the direction and its expansion * Define and enforce data governance, quality, and security standards across all data environments * Partner with the CPTO, Technology Director and Senior Leadership to translate business needs into data infrastructure investments and roadmaps * Establish observability and monitoring practices to ensure platform reliability and data integrity * Drive a culture of data democratization by making data accessible, trustworthy, and actionable across the organizationand to our customers * Work with the CPTO and Product Lead to create a roadmap that provides practical, well thought out, but ambitious value to our customers WHAT YOU BRING  * 10+ years of experience in data engineering, data architecture, or a related field, with at least 2–3 years in a senior leadership or director-level role * Proven experience designing and building unified data platforms or data lake/lakehouse solutions in complex, multi-environment settings (on-prem + cloud + edge/customer-side) * Deep hands-on expertise with enterprise data platforms such as Snowflake, IBM DB2, Databricks, Redshift, BigQuery, or similar * Strong background in data modeling, ETL/ELT pipeline design, and large-scale data architecture * Experience managing and developing engineering teams, with a track record of hiring, coaching, and retaining strong technical talent * Ability to operate at both the strategic and execution level - this is explicitly a hands-on role * Solid understanding of data governance, security, and compliance best practices.
