We're rebuilding Wheely to be the fastest and most reliable ride-hailing app on the planet — one where both the passenger app and
the driver app stay responsive on a flaky signal in the back of an apartment building, keep working behind censorship firewalls,
and don't drop the real-time guarantees a moving car depends on.
We're also adding something nobody in this category has built seriously: privacy as a product, not a compliance footnote.
This role owns the core that makes all of that possible: the platform, the infrastructure, the privacy primitives the rest of
engineering builds on top of, and the internal agent harness that lets teams across the company automate work that used to need
humans.
You'll inherit a mostly-Go codebase and a small group of strong engineers. You'll also inherit a genuinely open question on most
of what matters. Is microservices the right end state, or did we default into it? How should a backend look in 2026 when AI has
absorbed a large share of routine engineering work, when QA isn't a separate function, and when a small senior team paired with a
few unusually strong grads can outship a 2019-style org several times its size?
Our main engineering hub is in Cyprus. We're now building up London as a second hub, and this role is part of that — you'd be one
of the first senior engineering leaders on the ground here, helping shape what London looks like as a location, who we hire into
it, and what work belongs where.

Why This Role — and Why London We are establishing our first engineering and product hub in London, and we want to be clear about why. We are hiring our first Senior Engineering Lead to partner directly with our first London-based Staff Product Manager. Together, you will be the founding leadership team building this hub from the ground up. Two things make London the right place for this team: Direct Engineering Impact through Proximity The UK is home to some of our most strategically important Key Accounts—major grocery chains, national coffee shop operators, and fast-casual restaurant groups. As a Senior Engineering Lead, you won't just be executing a roadmap from afar; you will be close to the partners using our technology. Understanding their scale, technical constraints, and operational workflows from the inside is what will allow you to architect and deliver truly impactful, high-scale software. High-Velocity, Cross-Functional Collaboration London is the anchor for our most senior operational and commercial leadership. You will be co-located with P&L owners, Key Account managers, and commercial teams who live and breathe these partnerships every day. THE ROLE We are looking for a Senior Engineering Lead to build, lead, and establish our new engineering hub in London. You will be the founding Engineering Lead, where you will be responsible for building a high-performing engineering team from the ground up. You will report directly to our Director of Engineering in Copenhagen. You will recruit and lead a multidisciplinary engineering team, and in close collaboration with the business owners in our Operations department, you will define the technical roadmap and deliver the solutions that power our workflows. This role is a blend of people leadership, technical architecture, and product ownership. As the Senior Engineering Lead, you will ensure your team delivers high-quality, maintainable integrations and systems. You will manage the team, facilitate their productivity, and support their professional growth. THE TECH STACK You will be leading a multi-team organization working across our company's Tech Stacks: Our marketplace backend is a Spring Boot Application on Java 25 running on a Kubernetes cluster deployed in AWS. We have two frontend React.js projects written in TypeScript, as well as an Android App written primarily in Kotlin, and an iOS App written in Swift. RESPONSIBILITIES * Build, lead and manage a multidisciplinary engineering team. * Own and maintain the team's technical roadmap, ensuring it is aligned with business priorities defined by the Operations team. * Work directly with business stakeholders to understand their needs, provide technical guidance, and translate requirements into actionable work. * Manage relationships and technical work with third-party service providers and consultants. * Guide the team in designing, implementing, and maintaining robust integrations between our various systems. * Support the personal and professional growth of your team members. * Take responsibility for the team's delivery, technical quality, and schedule. THE IDEAL CANDIDATE * You have proven experience as a solution architect or senior engineer, designing and building integrations between complex systems * You have previously managed an engineering team and know how to support and grow your reports. * You can work independently and are able to create a feeling of belonging in a team that works remotely from most of the rest of the Tech team. * You are comfortable working very closely with non-technical business stakeholders to define roadmaps and priorities. * You have hands-on experience with integration technologies and patterns. This hybrid role is based in Dublin, Ireland (Full relocation provided). Toast creates technology to help restaurants and local businesses succeed in a digital world, helping business owners operate, increase sales, engage customers, and keep employees happy. Your mission is to drive architecture, technical strategy, and implementation of AI agents for Toast's Team area which is part of the Fintech line of business. You will be one of the most senior technologists in line of business. The Team area is a mission-critical space on which our restaurants rely to manage their staff and optimize their labor. Beyond being on the forefront of agent development, your scope will also include enablement and leadership for how software is developed at Toast through adoption of bleeding edge spec driven development and other paradigms.
