Lendable is on a mission to build the world's best technology to help people get credit and save money. We're building one of the
world’s leading fintech companies and are off to a strong start:
So far, we’ve rebuilt the Big Three consumer finance products from scratch: loans, credit cards and car finance. We get money into
our customers’ hands in minutes instead of days.
We’re growing fast, and there’s a lot more to do: we’re going after the two biggest Western markets (UK and US) where trillions
worth of financial products are held by big banks with dated systems and painful processes.
1. Take ownership across a broad remit. You are trusted to make decisions that drive a material impact on the direction and
success of Lendable from day 1
2. Work in small teams of exceptional people, who are relentlessly resourceful to solve problems and find smarter solutions than
the status quo
3. Build the best technology in-house, using new data sources, machine learning and AI to make machines do the heavy lifting
About the role
As we continue to build upon the diversity of our team we are thrilled to have the opportunity to bring on board a Senior Kotlin
engineer to a newly forming pod. This is an opportunity to bring new experience, perspective and capabilities to our design
discussions, helping shape our approach to delivering elegant solutions to complex engineering challenges as we continue to grow.
This is the team that put the Tech in FinTech, our current tech team is around 80 strong and have helped transform finance by
building a next-generation lending platform, a next-gen credit card, and auto-finance product, and they’re at it again with brand
new product launches this year.
We're looking for an engineer with a depth of knowledge and recent hands-on Kotlin experience that enables them to not only
deliver elegant, idiomatic solutions in Kotlin but also to contribute new knowledge and experience to our frequent collaborative
design forums with stakeholders from every area of the business.
There’s a lot to do, from building and integrating new API’s to help build out our new collections function to creating new
internal tools and supporting our expansion of new products and supporting services in the US.
We believe that software engineering is more than just code - it’s about people. We believe that the best teams are made of great
people. That fundamentally great software engineering is about alignment, sharing what we know and being nice to each other. When
we put all this together we make software engineering better by continually improving our capabilities as a team and making our
working environment a happy and productive place.

ABOUT APRON Apron is building something game-changing. Founded in 2021, Apron set out to help SMBs win. Small businesses are the backbone of the economy, yet the systems they rely on (particularly around payments) are slow, manual and not built for them. The biggest threat to small business is cash flow, often stemming from a gap between the demand payments put on owners and the aptitude to make the payments effectively. Apron changes that. We are closing the gap by digitising and simplifying the payments process: capturing invoices, issuing expense cards, paying and getting paid, all in one place. We have grown fast over the past few years, expanding our team to circa 100 individuals across the UK, Germany, Spain and more. We are backed by Index Ventures, Bessemer Venture Partners, Zinal Grow and Tony Fadell and we’ve raised $50m. The ambition from here is not incremental growth. Apron is building a category-defining, global fintech business with a clear path to significant revenue scale and international expansion. The next phase requires not just great products and ambition, but a world-class Engineering team. ABOUT OUR ENGINEERING CULTURE Engineers at Apron are at the heart of what we do. Here's what that means: * We build with the customer in mind. We use top-tier technology to build a product that genuinely makes their lives easier. * We own our work. We plan the approach, break it down, and bring it to life! * We embrace the complexity of finance. Working with money means navigating intricate business logic and thinking through every possible corner case. It’s a rewarding challenge where precision and attention to detail are crucial for building a trustworthy product. * We write code we're proud of. We work fast, but we build for the long term. Our code needs to be speedy, secure, and ready to grow with us. * We integrate AI tools. We use what's best out there to build a product that genuinely makes lives easier. WHAT YOU’LL OWN We're hiring more than one engineer for different teams as we're scaling to new products and features. This means: * You'll work cross-functionally with Frontend Engineers, Product Managers and Product Designers to develop new products and features for some of our product verticals Capture, Bill Pay, Apron Card and GetPaid and some horizontals like FinCrime. * You’ll design systems and develop core financial integrations to guarantee customer funds are secure and transactions are routed with market-leading speed. * You’ll share your experience with others, driving innovation, proactively suggesting improvements. WHAT YOU’LL NEED * 6-15 years of continuous experience as a backend engineer or Backend-leaning fullstack * Experience working in a product-led + fast-paced environment (startup or tech company). * Experience with relational databases. * Working knowledge of cloud platforms, with preference for Google Cloud Platform. * Keen attention to code quality, passion for efficient architecture, and commitment to optimising performance. * We use Kotlin for server-side development. While Kotlin proficiency is not mandatory, readiness to work with it is essential. WOULD BE A HIGHLIGHT IF YOU: * Are proficient in Kotlin, for server-side development. * Have hands-on experience with Kubernetes and Terraform. * Have experience with advanced Postgres features like GIST indexes, partitioning and replication.
