This team builds and maintains the ultra-low latency systems that underpin real-time trading, managing performance-critical workflows across global markets. You will work closely with developers, traders, and operations to optimise system behaviour, reduce latency, and ensure platform reliability at scale.   Your future role within QRT * Design and implement low-latency trading systems on Linux, focused on throughput, reliability, and determinism * Engineer scalable, high-performance distributed systems that support global real-time trading workflows * Analyse system behaviour using low-level tools such as packet captures, core dumps, and runtime profilers * Apply deep expertise in TCP, UDP, and multicast to understanding trade-offs in short-haul vs long-haul networks * Continuously profile, benchmark, and optimise code to reduce latency and increase throughput * Engage across the full software lifecycle: from architecture to debugging in live trading environments   Your present skillset * 5+ years of professional C++/C development experience on Linux, including modern C++ and multithreading * Strong expertise in TCP, UDP, multicast, and performance trade-offs in low-latency networks * Experience building and operating high-throughput distributed systems in production * Familiarity with scalable I/O models (e.g., epoll, io_uring), lock-free structures, and concurrent programming * Deep attention to detail with a rigorous approach to performance troubleshooting and optimisation * Proficiency in system-level tools (e.g., gdb, perf, tcpdump, valgrind, wireshark) * Comfortable working autonomously and taking ownership from problem to solution * Scripting experience (e.g., Python, Bash) and exposure to CI/CD or observability tooling is a plus * Prior exposure to electronic trading or exchange-facing systems is advantageous   QRT is an equal opportunity employer. We have a long history of pioneering technology in finance, and this role presents the opportunity to join us, as we work towards building scalable compute for research and software development to help identify and execute on investment opportunities.  We are looking for a high-performing Senior Python Platform Engineer to build solutions that make use of the latest capabilities in compute infrastructure. This role is at the intersection of technology and finance, helping to deliver high-impact, novel solutions that touch every part of our business.  Working in our Developer Platform team, you will build the core research platform and infrastructure used across Man Group. You will also partner with teams across the business to create APIs and frameworks that allow researchers and developers to augment, automate and transform our investment and operational workflows.     Role Responsibilities * Lead the design, build and maintenance of Man’s core Python compute platform * Partner with stakeholders in research, trading and technology, to design and build open-source cluster-compute technologies * Be aware of and actively monitor the latest developments in applied cluster compute, particularly Python facing libraries and tools * Identify and implement novel solutions - we take the best of what the open-source world has to offer and make it fit our needs, often contributing back to upstream projects * Proactively engage with teams across the business to promote understanding and adoption of our compute cluster capabilities   Key Competencies Essential * Advanced proficiency in Python, with extensive professional experience in building production applications and services * Experience of modern cluster compute - Kubernetes, Spark, Hadoop Yarn, Ray, Airflow are some of the technologies we use * Experience leading work in a formal software development environment alongside other engineers in a collaborative manner * Strong experience building platforms on the Linux Operating System * Self-organised with the ability to effectively manage time across multiple projects with competing business demands and priorities * Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain a close working relationship with quantitative developers, researchers, and other stakeholders Advantageous * Academic record including a degree with high mathematical / computing content, or equivalent commercial experience * Experience with GPU and CPU optimization technologies (for example, NUMA architectures or GPU profiling techniques) * Experience with C/C++, or other low-level or object-oriented languages * Experience building tools and technologies within systematic or discretionary investing units * Experience working with applied mathematics, financial markets and instruments, with awareness of underlying concepts Inclusion, Work-Life Balance and Benefits at Man Group You'll thrive in our working environment that champions equality of opportunity. The global Infrastructure team designs, builds, and operates QRT’s high-performance compute and research environments. The team focuses on automation, scalability, and reliability across datacentres and research platforms, working closely with engineering, storage, and research groups worldwide. Your Future Role within QRT You will help automate all aspects of a growing, cutting-edge datacentre and research platform. You will build tooling, pipelines, and guardrails that turn network intent into safe, repeatable outcomes for QRT’s high-performance on-premise datacentre. * Design and evolve the network automation framework (source of truth, templating, validation, change control). * Build idempotent automation to provision and operate data centre fabrics at scale. * Integrate with vendor APIs and SDKs (e.g. Arista EOS, NetQ etc.) * Capture network intent as code, ensuring peer reviews and quality gates. * Instrument the network with telemetry, alerting, and SLOs to drive automated remediation. * Adhere to NetDevOps practices and share knowledge across the team. * Collaborate with network and platform engineers to translate designs into automated workflows. * Deliver frequent, incremental improvements through safe, tested changes. * Monitor vendor and industry developments and propose practical adoption paths. Your Present Skillset * Advanced Python development for production-grade tools and services. * Go (preferred) for performant tooling. * Strong Ansible experience (roles, collections, YAML/JSON data models). * Git proficiency including branching, pull requests, and semantic versioning. * Observability fundamentals (Prometheus, Grafana, logging and tracing). * Source of truth/CMDB systems (NetBox, Nautobot etc.). * Linux networking (iptables, DHCP, DNS) and strong Bash scripting. * Workflow orchestration (Temporal or equivalent). * Network validation and testing tools (pyATS, NAPALM etc.). * Containers and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes). * Secure secrets and configuration management (Vault, PKI best practices). * Experience with data centre fabrics, QoS, and high-performance networking is a plus.
