Relation is offering an outstanding opportunity for an Senior Scientist, Biologics Drug Discovery to bring deep biologics drug
discovery knowledge to our growing pipeline. You will contribute to target assessment, modality selection and biologics discovery
strategies through deep technical expertise and hands-on scientific execution from early concept through to IND-enabling studies.
As Relation grows its scientific and machine learning capabilities, you will act as a highly experienced scientist, bringing deep
expertise in antibody discovery and engineering while contributing directly to programme execution and scientific decision-making,
working alongside our computational, ML, and translational teams to translate biological insight into well-designed molecules with
a credible path to the clinic.
We are particularly interested in scientists who have personally designed, engineered and optimised antibody molecules, including
experience with affinity maturation, CDR engineering, developability assessment and data-driven molecule optimisation. You will
additionally be a key technical voice in pipeline decisions and a trusted partner to colleagues across Drug Discovery and beyond.

THE OPPORTUNITY Relation is offering an outstanding opportunity for a Senior Scientist II / Principal Scientist, In Vivo Biology & Translational Science to help drive our growing discovery portfolio. We are looking for an experienced in vivo biologist with a strong track record of independently leading outsourced work packages through CRO partnerships and translating data into actionable project decisions, initially in support of our osteoporosis programme with scope to contribute across indications as the portfolio grows. In this role, you will own the design, delivery, and interpretation of in vivo pharmacology work packages, partnering closely with CROs and cross-functional colleagues across medicinal chemistry, biologics, DMPK, and safety. You will work at the intersection of experimental science and data-driven discovery within a growing TechBio company. DAY TO DAY, YOU WILL * Lead in vivo pharmacology strategy for projects within Relation's discovery programmes, proposing and championing the right study designs to support go/no-go decisions and milestone planning across multiple concurrent projects * Drive the execution, monitoring, and interpretation of in vivo pharmacology studies across target engagement, PK/PD, and disease-relevant efficacy endpoints * Own end-to-end CRO relationships for externally commissioned in vivo work packages: from vendor selection and SOW set-up through in-life liaison, data review, troubleshooting, and reporting * Commission in vivo-relevant in vitro and ex vivo assays, such as target engagement, pharmacodynamic, and mechanistic readouts, that directly inform study decisions and data interpretation * Translate biology data into clear, actionable insights and recommendations, communicating findings effectively to project teams and senior stakeholders * Maintain rigorous documentation standards across outsourced study packages, including ELN, protocol authoring and review, and study reporting * Champion Relation's collaborative, ambitious and science-driven culture, sharing scientific expertise across the team and helping to build an outstanding drug discovery organisation PROFESSIONALLY, YOU WILL HAVE * A PhD in Biology, Pharmacology, Biochemistry, or a related scientific discipline or equivalent experience in industrial drug discovery * Deep expertise in mammalian in vivo study design across target engagement, PK/PD, and efficacy endpoints, with the scientific judgement to define the right experiments to drive project decisions, a sound knowledge of 3Rs principles, and a proven record of delivering through CRO partnerships to quality and timeline * Experience commissioning or interpreting in vitro and ex vivo assays in support of in vivo programmes, including target engagement, pharmacodynamic, and mechanistic readouts * Experience across multiple stages of drug discovery (target ID through candidate selection) and across more than one disease area or physiological system * Scientifically rigorous and analytically critical, with the ability to interrogate data, challenge assumptions, and deliver across a broad and fast-moving project portfolio * Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills: able to distil complex biology into clear project-level insights and influence cross-functional decisions * A deep passion for disease biology and drug discovery, with intellectual curiosity, enthusiasm for tackling complex scientific problems, and a drive to integrate emerging technologies with experimental science * Bonus experience: experience working across different drug discovery modalities, including small molecules and/or biologics; experience in a TechBio or AI-driven discovery environment. YOUR MISSION We are seeking an accomplished Senior scientist of macrophage biology to provide scientific leadership in macrophage biology and immune-stromal interactions, driving target identification, validation and translational strategy across our fibrosis and oncology discovery portfolio. We are looking for an expert in macrophage biology who will use their experience to establish macrophage-based target screening assays combined with our novel extracellular matrix-based cell models, utilising cellular, immunological, biochemical, molecular biology and functional genomic approaches. You will also provide scientific mentorship and technical guidance to scientists across discovery programmes, champion innovative approaches and emerging technologies in macrophage and immune-stromal biology, and represent macrophage biology expertise within cross-functional project teams. Key Responsibilities * Establish a suite of macrophage functionality assays to target discovery and drug discovery flowcharts, including activation, cytokine secretion, phagocytosis and efferocytosis assays. * Optimise macrophage target screening-based systems utilising annotated lmw libraries and functional genomic approaches such as siRNA and CrispR library-based approaches. * Lead a small team of immunologists/cell biologists involved in execution of projects across both the internal and external biopartnerships. * Lead the build novel macrophage drug target nomination packages and present case to the leadership for portfolio entry. * Analyse, interpret, report and present results. YOUR PROFILE Key Experience * Demonstrable expertise in macrophage biology, in particular phagocytosis pathways. * Demonstrable experience in target nomination and validation in a biotech or pharmaceutical based setting. * Expertise in the use of multi-colour flow cytometry and IF techniques. * Hands-on experience of key immunological and molecular biology techniques including MSD, RNA/DNA. extraction, qRT-PCR, western blotting, siRNA knockdown. * Have team and direct people leadership experience. * Familiarity with molecular pharmacology and oncology drug development would be an advantage. * Prior working experience in the biotech/pharma industry performing laboratory research would be a further plus. Qualifications and Competencies * PhD in Biomedical sciences, Immunology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology or related discipline plus 4 years’ experience in drug screening setting or MSc plus 8 years practical experience with a focus on immuno-oncology or fibrosis. * Ability to plan, execute and critically assess experiments independently. * Excellent time-management skills and ability to work to set deadlines. * You will be expected to work well within a team, have strong written and verbal communication skills, as well as IT skills. * You will troubleshoot effectively, work methodically, stay well organised, pay close attention to detail, and maintain accurate records. You will work with large-scale human genetics resources (e.g. biobanks and population cohorts), internally generated data, and apply cutting-edge statistical genetics methodologies to generate actionable insights. You will operate at the interface of human genetics, computational biology, and machine learning, translating genetic evidence and multi-omics into target prioritisation frameworks and mechanistic hypotheses. You will play a key role in developing robust, scalable analysis pipelines and ensuring genetic insights are integrated into decision-making across the organisation. Day to day you will, * Perform statistical and population genomics analyses using large-scale datasets to support target discovery and validation. * Design and implement statistical genetics methodologies for target prioritisation, including approaches leveraging GWAS, fine-mapping, colocalisation, MR, polygenic risk, rare variant analyses, and functional annotation. * Develop scalable computational workflows for reproducible genetics analysis, enabling robust and efficient delivery across multiple programmes. * Integrate human genetics evidence with multi-omics datasets (e.g. transcriptomics, proteomics) to uncover disease mechanisms and prioritise actionable targets. * Partner closely with experimental, translational, and ML teams to validate hypotheses, interpret findings, and guide downstream decision-making. * Communicate results clearly and confidently to internal stakeholders, including presenting methods, results, risks/limitations, and recommendations. * Contribute to publications, scientific communications, and project documentation, supporting scientific excellence and external visibility.
