Project Engineer - SCADA Expert HVDC Service

We are looking for IT/OT System engineers to join Hitachi Energy in Ludvika! You will be part of a team of talented engineers tasked with deploying and securing the next generation of control systems within HVDC. You will be responsible for integrating and implementing features aligning with customer- and market requirements. In this position you will serve as a key resource in the assigned area contributing to deployments of the MACH control platform in large HVDC project deliveries at Hitachi Energy. “Our people and the teams are the key to our success! How you’ll make an impact Be part of a team for system, network, and cybersecurity design and implementations in HVDC projects, focus OT - HMI, SCADA, automation part. Building complete infrastructure of networks and systems to support operations and ensuring systems and networks contain defined levels of cybersecurity. Upon level of experience, mentoring junior associates and driving knowledge-sharing initiatives. Upon level of experience, actively contributing to identifying and capturing opportunities for improvement. Your background A university degree within a relevant technical area, preferably Computer science, Automation or other relevant education or experience. Experience in HMI (human machine interface) design and testing, Aveva platform, Micro Scada or similar. Experience in SCADA, automation design and testing, IEC101, IEC104, IEC61850 or similar along with scripting languages and automation technologies. Experience with databases and high-availability solutions, as well as network equipment as firewalls, switches, GPS clocks and redundant network designs and protocols. Good verbal and written communication skills, fluent in English and comfortable in customer discussions. Experience with Microsoft client- and server operating systems, AD and any security relevant systems is meritorious. Therefore, we are looking for not one but two passionate IT/OT Security Engineers to join our team. We are embarking on a transformation journey to shift from delivering projects only to building modern, well‑defined product‑based systems. Our goal is to grow our cross‑functional team to eighteen members within a year, creating a dynamic environment where novel ideas and collaboration thrive. In this role, you’ll help create cutting‑edge solutions for platforms that integrate Information Technology (IT) and Operational Technology (OT) at HVDC. These platforms are the foundation our global project teams rely on. Your main focus will be securing the integration of IT with the OT domain, where Human–Machine Interfaces (HMIs), Gateway Stations (GWS), and communication protocols reside. With your expertise in security principles and your understanding of threats at the edge, you will help project teams develop and integrate security solutions that can serve as reusable frameworks while still meeting project‑specific requirements. These frameworks are essential for optimizing project effort and are mandatory for delivering the required functionality to our customers with the highest possible quality. You’ll document your solutions and support testing to ensure project teams are equipped with the correct and secure implementations when delivering to customers. How you’ll make an impact Secure IT/OT platforms by implementing robust controls that protect HMI, GWS, and communication layers while ensuring safe and reliable operation. Develop reusable security frameworks that standardize solutions across projects while supporting project‑specific needs. Strengthen edge and infrastructure security by identifying threats and applying protective measures in distributed and industrial environments. Produce clear documentation and support testing so project teams can deploy secure and validated components. Configure and harden industrial communication protocols by applying best security practices e.g., authentication and authorization. Build and validate secure baselines, including hardened images, firewall rules, and configuration templates for IT/OT components. Your background Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience. Skilled in testing code and creating test cases for developed components. Knowledge of industrial communication protocols such as Modbus, IEC based protocols, SNMP, TCP/UDP, VLANs, and IPsec. Familiarity with SCADA, PLCs, HMIs, gateway devices, and other core OT components Hands on experience with security tools such as Firewalls, network monitoring tools, vulnerability scanners, packet analyzers, and endpoint hardening utilities. Understanding of security frameworks like ISO 27001, and related cybersecurity standards is a plus Strong documentation and communication skills to support cross functional engineering teams.
