The Opportunity
Join our HVDC R&D team at Hitachi Energy and help pioneer the future of energy transmission. We are now looking for a R&D Senior Engineer to contribute to the development of advanced control strategies for HVDC systems, including Modular Multilevel Converter (MMC) and Line Commutated Converter (LCC) technologies. This is a unique opportunity to work in a global, collaborative environment focused on innovation and technical excellence.
In this role, you will design and optimize control algorithms for MMC- and LCC-based HVDC systems, including multiterminal HVDC (MTDC) configurations. You will also perform small-signal stability analysis, harmonic studies, and transient simulations to ensure robust and reliable system performance. A key part of your responsibilities will be to lead system-level dynamic performance evaluations and drive continuous improvements in control strategies. Additionally, you will mentor junior engineers and actively contribute to strategic technology roadmaps, helping shape the future direction of HVDC control systems and power electronics design.
How You Will Make an Impact
Contribute to converter topology design, control and protection, and main circuit development for VSC HVDC and LCC HVDC systems.
Perform insulation coordination, steady-state and dynamic stability studies, harmonic analysis, and performances under various conditions.

Your Background
PhD or MSc in Power Systems, Electrical Machines and Drives, or Power Electronics Control.
Several years of experience in HVDC or FACTS technologies.
Strong knowledge of MMC topologies and HVDC control systems.
Experience in small-signal stability analysis and transient simulations.
Skilled in simulation tools: MATLAB, PSCAD/EMTDC, EMTP-RV, and ideally Modelica, RTDS, Python, C/C++.
Open-minded, solution-oriented, and collaborative with strong organizational skills.
Proficiency in English is required

The opportunity Do you want to enable the green energy transition, and together with colleagues meet the world’s needs for sustainable, flexible and secure energy? In your work you will be part of HVDC (High Voltage Direct Current) business unit that is a part of Hitachi Energy’s division and is located in Ludvika. The unit develops, manufactures and sells DC transmission systems on a global market. Hitachi Energy’s developed HVDC technology is used to transmit electricity over long distances and for power transmission via submarine cables, thus enabling stability, cooperation between grids, sea-based wind power and more. How you’ll make an impact You use your practical EMC experience to ensure proper design and controlled performance during normal use, fast switching of a high voltage-high current system as well as during catastrophic events such as short circuits and the like. The role includes: Continuous improvement of guidelines and processes related to your area Documenting strategies in different types of deliveries Defining interdepartmental interfaces for requirements and implementations. Performing inspections to ensure proper installations at our sites internationally Work together with experts in areas like RF emission simulations and studies, grounding of very high currents and electro-magnetic field simulations. The department is active in several multiphysics areas in close cooperation with both electrical and mechanical functions. Your background We are looking for a Master of Science degree in an electrical field, applied physics, power systems or similar. Experienced professional with several years in the EMC field. You have a keen interest in or understanding of mechanical aspects as well as electrical design. Experience in design of auxiliary power systems in HVDC or substation environment or other area where high currents is involved Prior experience in any of the other technical areas is beneficial but not a demand, your personality and interest are of high importance. As a person you are a positive, problem-solving individual with the attitude that everything is possible to do in a team. You will work in a team where being able to take responsibility and willingness to learn are key features. A general interest in technology is needed to be a good fit for this position. The Opportunity Join Hitachi Energy as a Test Engineer within the MACH Control System integration team and contribute to ensuring the quality and reliability of advanced control systems used in critical energy infrastructure. The Opportunity We are looking for a motivated and skilled Design Engineer to join our Local Product Support team. In this role, you will provide hands-on engineering expertise, contribute to product care activities, and support both internal and external stakeholders with technical solutions. You will work closely both with our teams in the factory and global product support to secure high-quality performance of our products. How You Will Make an Impact Deliver high-quality technical expertise and hands-on troubleshooting of complex issues across the organization.
