Job Summary This is an entry level training position within the manufacturing departments of the Development and Manufacturing organization. This position is a machine operator role that is coupled with an apprenticeship program to develop skills needed to perform as a Mechatronics Technician. A Mechatronics Technician installs, maintains, and repairs automated systems by combining mechanical, electrical, and computer skills. The apprentice will participate in a department rotation program learning about the key processes involved in manufacturing. Additionally, the apprentice will receive 8,000 hours of education and on-the-job training outlined in a highly structured program to obtain certification from the United States Department of Labor as a Mechatronics Technician.  Phoenix Contact will cover 100% of the tuition costs for the Apprentice to obtain an associate's degree in Mechatronics.  Key Responsibilities * Learn the technical side of Phoenix Contact products for a better understanding of production methods and resources. * Learn how to operate various equipment and machinery in the manufacturing area, first as the line operator with the continuous transition into a Mechatronics Technician * Learn how to monitor and analyze equipment performance and take actions to optimize machine performance for efficient production. * Assist Mechatronics Technicians to troubleshoot, maintain, repair, and interpret various mechanical and electrical aspects of automatic and semi-automatic equipment, such as mechanical and pneumatic, PLC, and PC-based driven systems. * Understand quality standards, control quality revisions and non-conformances within the camera programs and software.  * Review for better understanding machine enhancements, improvements, and development with Phoenix Contact machine build and Manufacturing Engineering department. * Design basic mechanical tooling drawings when required in AutoCAD   * Must be able to learn the process used to identify controller and I/O faults, diagnose specific cause, identify defective part, debug control program, and restore system function in a timely manner. * Understand how to maintain spare parts list and spare parts system to support equipment. * Participate in preventative maintenance programs on all automatic and semi-automatic equipment. * Work closely with machine operators and provide technical support when able. * Follow necessary PPE requirements, appropriate ISO specifications and company procedures. Job Summary The Mechatronics Technician I contributes to production performance in addition to equipment management and implementation. This role works with engineering and quality, supporting the production team in achieving established targets and assures customer satisfaction. The Mechatronics Technician I will modify, maintain, and repair electrical, electronic, and mechanical components, equipment, and systems to ensure proper functioning. Responsibilities * Supports technical production performance and resources. * Monitors and analyzes equipment performance and optimizes machine performance for efficient production. * Troubleshoots, maintains, repairs, and interprets various mechanical and electrical aspects of automatic and semi-automatic equipment, such as mechanical and pneumatic, PLC, and PC-based driven systems. * Understands quality standards and controls quality revisions and non-conformances. * Coordinates machine enhancements and improvements with machine build and Manufacturing Engineering department. * Designs mechanical tooling drawings when required in AutoCAD and coordinates purchases from local tooling suppliers. * Completes machine qualification testing and documentation for new equipment. * Maintains spare parts list and spare parts system to support equipment. * Executes preventative maintenance programs on all automatic and semi-automatic equipment. * Works closely with all manufacturing personnel and provides technical support. * Understands department processes, including material flow, planning initiatives, and strategy. * Follows necessary PPE requirements, appropriate ISO specifications and company procedures. * Utilizes quality tools and continuous improvement techniques to improve department targets. * Other duties as assigned. WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR As an electrical and/or mechatronics technician, you will be the technical backbone of our recycling plant. This role is for a true hands-on professional with proven experience in both mechanical and electrical domains, capable of working independently in a demanding industrial environment, including high-voltage systems and complex equipment. You will work directly on the shop floor, performing installations, maintenance, troubleshooting, and supporting production during ramp-up and scale-up phases. In this role, you will play a key part in ensuring plant reliability, uptime, and safe operations, contributing directly to the build-up and continuous improvement of our production site. Your cross-functional expertise will make you a critical pillar of the maintenance and operations team. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES MECHANICAL * Installation & Assembly: Independently install, assemble, and commission a wide range of industrial equipment, machinery units, and complex piping systems. * Modifications & Upgrades: Execute technical modifications and plant improvements to optimize process performance and equipment integration. * Equipment Maintenance: Maintain, align, and troubleshoot pumps, motors, gearboxes, valves, and heavy process equipment. * Spare Parts Management: Identify, replace, and manage critical spare parts to ensure rapid recovery and minimal downtime. * Preventive Care: Execute and optimize preventive and corrective maintenance schedules across all mechanical assets. * Fabrication: Perform welding, machining, and metal fabrication as required for repairs or bespoke plant adjustments. * Diagnostics: Diagnose mechanical wear and tear, implementing sustainable technical solutions to extend equipment life. ELECTRICAL * High-Voltage & Safety: Safely manage high-voltage systems and strictly enforce electrical safety (LOTO) and compliance. * Installation & Power: Install, wire, and commission electrical systems, control cabinets, and high-voltage power distribution. * Infrastructure: Implement cable routing, conduits, and tray systems for power and signal lines. * Instrumentation: Maintain and calibrate sensors and actuators to ensure accurate process feedback. * Diagnostics & Upgrades: Perform structured fault-finding and modify control logic or panels to improve plant automation.
