Proxima Fusion is Europe’s fastest-growing fusion company and the continent’s best-funded fusion player, as well as the first
spin-out from the Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics (IPP). Backed by over €650M and powered by a growing team across Munich,
Zurich, and Oxford, we are developing the hardware and infrastructure needed to deliver the world’s first commercial stellarator
fusion power plant.
Our concept advances the most mature fusion technology out there, the Wendelstein 7-X stellarator, through two next-generation
machines: Alpha and Stellaris. Our work combines stellarator optimization, advanced computation, machine learning, and
high-temperature superconducting magnets to unlock higher-performance designs that were previously out of reach.
Turning these designs into a functioning fusion power plant requires excellence and ownership across every discipline, from
physics and engineering to software, manufacturing, law, and business functions.
As a dedicated mechatronics specialist or mechanical engineering technician, you will be a central part of our lab team. You will
help turn early mechanical and electromechanical concepts into functional prototypes. Working closely with both engineering and
workshop teams, you will develop fixtures, test setups, and scalable assembly processes.
This role is ideal for a hands-on person who takes pride in precision, works independently, and enjoys collaborating with
world-class engineers.

At Proxima Fusion, our mission is bold: making limitless clean energy a reality. To get there, we need a high-performing, diverse
team that brings different perspectives, challenges assumptions, and builds together with purpose. We know that diversity of
thought and experience leads to better ideas, stronger execution, and a more resilient team. We don’t look at how you identify,
what you look like, who you choose to worship or what ethnicity you are. We care about what you can bring to the table.
Here at The Exploration Company, we are developing, producing, and operating Nyx, a modular and reusable space orbital vehicle that can eventually be refuelled in orbit and that can carry cargo - and potentially humans in the longer run. The Operations team is hiring a hands‑on technician to keep our Munich sites running safely and smoothly. You’ll perform day‑to‑day maintenance, carry out basic repairs, and coordinate certified vendors for the jobs that legally require them. This is a practical, tools‑on role with clear ownership of the site’s essentials. RESPONSIBILITIES * Carry out preventive and corrective maintenance on HVAC (filters/belts/AHUs), plumbing & sanitary hot water, compressed‑air distribution (drains/leaks), lighting and LV electrical basics, doors/gates/roller shutters, and small building works (paint/shelving/furniture). * Do weekly visual/functional checks on UPS/central battery/inverters and emergency lighting; raise service tickets when needed. * Coordinate statutory inspections with accredited providers (electrical checks, lifts, automatic doors, emergency lighting, sprinklers/fire doors & pumps, smoke extraction) and file the reports. * Run water hygiene routines (temperature checks, flushing); book Legionella sampling with the lab and close actions. * Support fire safety basics (extinguishers, signage, evacuation routes) and issue/close hot‑work permits for contractors. * Look after security systems with the vendor (badges, CCTV, intrusion, alarm teletransmission) and opening/closing routines. * Own cleaning, waste & compactor pickups, paper recycling/confidential destruction, and pest/drain services with vendors. * Inspect and maintain roof/terrace & gutters (vendor for waterproofing repairs). * Oversee landscaping/indoor plants service. * If Facilities owns them: coordinate forklifts/MEWPs periodic checks and user daily‑check routines (otherwise interface with Logistics). * Use the CMMS/ticketing tool to receive/close work orders, track assets & consumables (filters, softener salt), and report simple monthly KPIs. * Act as first response for facilities incidents; make safe and call vendors/EHS as needed. QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS * 3+ years as a building/facility maintenance technician in industrial, R&D or lab sites. * Solid hands‑on skills across HVAC basics, plumbing, and low‑voltage electrical troubleshooting; knows when to fix vs. call a vendor. * Comfortable with CMMS and clear, tidy documentation. * Can read manuals and simple drawings; uses safe working practices (lockout/tagout basics). * German fluent; English workable with vendors and internal teams. * Nice to have / or obtained after start: Electrical habilitation (B0/H0 or BS/BE‑manœuvre), SST first‑aid, CACES/authorisations for forklifts/MEWPs; F‑Gas awareness when dealing with HVAC contractors. * Valid driver’s license. Why you should join us! What makes us special here at The Exploration Company and why we think you will enjoy working here is: * We’re Agile - we make decisions fast whilst keeping our goals and systems in mind * We’re Open and Collaborative - we are transparent about risks and obstacles, so that we can cooperate to overcome them * We have a lot of Fun - we refuel our energy knowing we are democratising space. It’s a wonderful and rare opportunity, are YOU up for the challenge? We'd love to hear from you if you wish to be a part of our journey. Relocation assistance is provided for those willing to relocate including visa sponsorship where applicable. All offers are contingent upon the successful completion of a background check, which will be subject to the country, role, and project you applied for. By submitting your application, you acknowledge and agree that any offer of employment may be conditional upon successful condition of this check. The Exploration Company partners with Zinc Work Limited located in the UK (Zinc), a third-party provider, to ensure this process as efficient and transparent as possible. If applicable, you will receive an email from Zinc upon acceptance of your offer with a link to a secure portal where you can provide the required information to Zinc.
ABOUT US STARK is a new kind of defence technology company, revolutionizing the way autonomous systems are deployed across multiple domains. We design, develop and manufacture high-performance unmanned systems that are software-defined, mass-scalable, and cost-effective. YOUR MISSION As our Werkstattmeister (Workshop Lead), you are the technical authority on the R&D shop floor. Your mission is to maintain a high-functioning prototyping environment that bridges the gap between digital design and physical testing. You will lead a small team of 3–4 technicians and act as the "gatekeeper" of our workshop standards. You balance the speed of R&D with the necessity of order: you ensure tools are returned, machines are respected, and safety is never compromised. You aren't just a supervisor; you are an enabler who provides the guidance and structure engineers need to build and test their designs effectively before they move into series production. RESPONSIBILITIES WORKSHOP MANAGEMENT & AUTHORITY * Ownership of the Floor: You define and enforce the standards for cleanliness, tool placement, and machine usage. You ensure the workshop remains organized enough to remain productive. * Asset Maintenance: You own the maintenance cycles for our CNC portal, manual lathe, and large 3D printing farm (FDM, Resin, and SLS/PA11). * Technical Guidance: You provide hands-on support and "over-the-shoulder" guidance to engineers. You ensure they use the equipment correctly and help them troubleshoot physical build issues. * Inventory & Sourcing: You manage the stock of R&D materials and hardware. You will be a key stakeholder in selecting and commissioning our future high-end metal CNC machinery. PROTOTYPING & ASSEMBLY * Execution: Lead the team in building complex prototypes, from UAV airframes to radio link towers and specialized test stands, supporting the Engineers that designed builds. * Additive Farm Oversight: Ensure the printing farm is running efficiently, prioritizing jobs based on R&D needs and ensuring the quality of high-strength PA11 SLS parts. * Process Transition: Help refine prototyping workflows so that designs can be successfully handed over to the production workshop. QUALIFICATIONS EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION * Certified Master Craftsman (Meister) or Senior Technician in a mechanical field (e.g., Feinwerkmechanik, Industriemechanik, Modellbau, or Aviation/Fluggerätmechanik). * Experience in a prototyping or R&D environment where you have managed both machines and people. TECHNICAL BACKGROUND * Machining: Strong hands-on experience with manual lathes and CNC machines (milling/portal). * Additive Manufacturing: Solid understanding of FDM and Resin processes. Practical experience with SLS (PA11) for functional parts is a strong advantage. * Familiar with CAD/CAM: Ability to work with CATIA / 3DEXPERIENCE to review designs to prepare manufacturing steps is a plus. * Standards: A background in aviation or defense-related manufacturing standards is a big plus. MINDSET & WORKING STYLE * The "Anchor" of the Shop: You have the confidence to enforce shop floor rules and ensure discipline regarding tools and safety, but you do it to help the team, not to hinder them. * Practical Leadership: You understand that R&D requires flexibility. You aim for a "clean-as-you-go" culture that supports speed rather than a rigid "sterile lab" mentality. * Quality & Pride: You take personal pride in the state of the workshop and the quality of the prototypes that leave it.
