Adaptyv is building an automated lab that lets AI agents run biology experiments. We're entering the era of agentic science where AI models can now design novel proteins, propose hypotheses, and iterate on experimental results. But they can't run the experiments themselves - that's still a manual, months-long process. We're building the infrastructure that gives AI agents access to the physical world. We are one of the fastest growing biotech companies, trusted by leading biopharmas, frontier AI labs, and the techbio companies pushing the field forward. This is a rare chance to help advance some of the most important work happening in biotech today. Our automated lab is powered by a deep software + hardware stack: lab instruments worth millions of USD reverse-engineered into API-controllable hardware, dozens of devices orchestrated through complex workflows, full observability on everything that happens in the lab, processing pipelines for messy physical-world data, and AI systems that troubleshoot production results and accelerate assay development. We’re growing rapidly and are hiring for talented people to scale and support the massive demand for AI-driven wet lab experimentation. ABOUT THE ROLE You're the bridge between Adaptyv's lab and the people designing proteins. Protein design platforms, pharma teams, AI labs, and biotech startups all have the same problem: they can generate designs far faster than they can test them. Your job is to close that gap — to embed with a customer, understand their pipeline, and wire Adaptyv's API into their stack so that designing, building, and testing proteins becomes one continuous loop instead of a series of handoffs. This is a deeply technical, customer-facing role. You'll write real code in production systems — ours and, often, theirs. You'll go from a first integration call to a working pipeline that's submitting experiments and pulling results automatically. And you'll bring everything you learn in the field back to our product and engineering teams, so the integrations get easier every time. WHAT YOU'LL DO * Embed with customers — protein design platforms, pharma, AI labs, biotechs — to understand how they design proteins and where Adaptyv fits in their loop. * Integrate our API into their pipelines: submitting designs, tracking experiments, and pulling structured results back into their models and data stores. * Build the glue — SDKs, client libraries, scripts, and small services — that makes the integration clean, reliable, and easy to maintain. * Design the data flow between their design stack and our lab so a model's output becomes a real experiment, and real measurements flow back automatically. * Prototype quickly, then harden what works into something production-grade. * Be the technical voice of the customer internally — turn what you learn in the field into improvements to our API, docs, and product. * Help turn first integrations into durable, expanding partnerships. WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR * Strong software engineer. You write production code (Python and/or TypeScript), design clean APIs and integrations, and can own a system end to end. * Customer-facing instinct. You're energized by working directly with users, translating a vague need into a concrete technical plan, and shipping something they actually use. * Fast and autonomous. You parachute into an unfamiliar codebase or pipeline, figure out what matters, and get a working integration live without waiting for a spec. * AI-native builder. It's 2026 — you build with coding agents like Claude Code as a default, and you have sharp judgment about what they produce. * API and integration experience. You've built or consumed real APIs, handled auth, webhooks, retries, and messy real-world data flows between systems. * Comfortable with ambiguity. Every customer's stack is different; you like that. * Interest in biology, protein design, or ML for science is a strong plus — you don't need a bio background, but you should be excited to learn the domain and talk credibly with scientists. DETAILS * Location: Lausanne, Switzerland or remote/hybrid, occasionally travel to customers. * Type: Full time * Start date: ASAP We review applications on a rolling basis. Application deadline We are reviewing applicants on a rolling basis.
Join Proton and build a better internet where privacy is the default At Proton, we believe that privacy is a fundamental human right and the cornerstone of democracy. Since our inception in 2014, founded by a team of scientists from CERN, we have dedicated ourselves to providing free and open-source technology to millions worldwide, ensuring access to privacy, security, and freedom online. Our journey began with Proton Mail, the largest secure email service globally, and has since expanded to include Proton VPN, Proton Calendar, Proton Drive, and Proton Pass. These tools empower individuals and organizations to take control of their personal data, break away from Big Tech’s invasive practices, and defeat censorship. Our work impacts hundreds of millions of lives, from activists on the front lines defending freedom to leaders in governments protecting sensitive information. In some cases, Proton’s services have even been instrumental in saving lives by enabling secure and private communications in high-risk situations. Proton is a profitable company that does not rely upon VC funding, supporting over 100 million user accounts with a growing team of over 500 people from over 50 different countries, from the world's top companies and universities. We value intelligence, learning potential, and ambition in our hiring process. Adaptability is key as we navigate uncharted territories and redefine how business is conducted online. Hiring at Proton is highly selective, with less than 1% of candidates hired. We believe smaller teams of exceptional talent will always prevail over larger teams with lower talent density. You will have the opportunity work with many of the world's top minds in their fields, ranging from former international math and science olympiad winners to chess champions. We have a global mindset and big ambitions but remain a start-up at heart. We value empowerment and flexibility and keep our structure flat to keep moving fast and avoid unnecessary politics. Tired of blending into the crowd? Join us and do work you can truly be proud of. Check our open-source projects here! THE DESIGN TEAM Proton's Design team shapes the experience for tens of millions of users across Mail, Drive, VPN, Pass, and Calendar. Designers sit embedded within engineering teams, involved in every stage — ceremonies, scoping, implementation, and testing — not parachuted in at the mockup phase. The team is structured as a guild: high autonomy, significant ownership, and real influence over how the design function itself evolves. We work cross-functionally across product, engineering, and marketing, and we care deeply about visual craft. We're not looking for designers who've drifted toward pure strategy or metrics — this role demands someone who still loves getting their hands dirty and takes personal pride in what ships. If that's where you do your best work, you'll fit here. What you will do * Own design end-to-end across one or more product areas — from scoping and ideation through final specs and QA with engineers * Translate complex privacy and security constraints into experiences that feel simple and trustworthy to non-technical users * Identify UX debt and product gaps with clear recommendations, not just problem statements * Contribute to and enforce the Proton Design System — icons, components, interaction patterns, and visual standards * Work directly with engineers to pressure-test designs against technical constraints before and during build * Define micro-interactions and transitions that serve clarity and feel premium without adding complexity Job requirements Who You Are * 5+ years designing and shipping digital products at scale in a SaaS or tech company — a portfolio demonstrating this is required * Proven ability to deliver end-to-end: concept, flow, visual execution, and handoff — not just high-fidelity mockups * Deep command of visual craft: typography, layout, spacing, color, and hierarchy at a level that raises the bar for everyone around you * Fluent working within technical constraints — you've shipped work that required real trade-offs with engineering, and you pushed for the right outcomes anyway * Experience contributing to a living design system, not just consuming one * Comfortable articulating design rationale to engineers, PMs, and leadership without relying on consensus-seeking Nice to Have * Experience with Rand or comparable large-scale UX research methods * Background designing privacy-respecting alternatives to mainstream social or community platforms What We Offer: * Office First: Collaboration is easier and more effective in person, which is why we have offices in Geneva, Zurich, Prague, Barcelona, Paris, London, Vilnius, Skopje, and Taipei. You can also enjoy working from home up to 30% of the time, while enjoying great company during our three core days in the office. * Technology: We provide all the devices and software you need to excel in your role, ensuring you have the best tools at your disposal to achieve your goals. * Food: Lunch and snacks are provided by Proton every day at our offices. * Transport: We will always support our employees with transport costs through subsidizing public transport, bike allowances, or parking spaces based on your office location. * Stock Options: At Proton, we are all owners of the company and you get stock options when you join us. * Flexible Working: You can define your own working hours as long as it works with team meetings. * Learning and Development: We are committed to your professional growth. Proton offers various learning opportunities, including training programs, conferences and events, and continual learning. * Employee Benefits: Comprehensive health insurance plans, competitive retirement savings options, generous vacation and leave policies, and wellness programs. * Work that Matters: Proton is a community-first organization, started with the support of a crowdfunding campaign and built with community input. To this day, Proton’s only source of revenue is user subscriptions. Over 100 million people trust and support Proton, and we put our users and community first in everything we do. Read more about our impact here. Our Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion At Proton, we believe diversity drives innovation and strengthens our mission to provide privacy as a default for all. We are committed to fostering an inclusive environment where all individuals, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, age, sexual orientation, physical ability, or socio-economic background, feel valued and empowered. We strive to create equal opportunities, promote open dialogue, and support continuous learning to ensure every voice is heard and respected.
