Preferred starting date 01.01.2026.
Place of work is Centre for Materials Science and Nanotechnology at Gaustad, Oslo.
We are searching for a skilled, creative and ambitious researcher to join our scientific activities within the field of battery materials. The candidate will work in a dynamic team of approximately 10 PhD/MS students and researchers and, therefore, should be skilled to work in team as well as independently.
The successful candidate will be involved in two activities involving synthesis, electrode design and advanced characterization of the materials for Li-ion and Na-ion bat-teries under two projects funded by the Norwegian Research Council.
The candidate will work closely with all group members, who are involved in similar research activities and should have knowledge and understanding of the electrochemical characterization of battery materials in addition to the advanced knowledge in X-ray based characterization techniques.
The position will be part of the Battery research group within the Nanostructures and Functional Materials (NAFUMA) section. The Battery research group consists of approximately 20 members focused on multiple battery chemistries. The group also performs research on understanding of reaction mechanisms in batteries using operando characterisation.
The NAFUMA section is part of Centre for Materials Science and Nanotechnology (SMN). Centre for Materials Science and Nanotechnology is an interdisciplinary centre, a collaboration between four research groups in physics and chemistry, and it spearheads the MN Faculty's efforts for sustainable energy solutions. The Centre embodies UiO’s focus on renewable energy, materials science, and nanotechnology.
The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences has a strategic ambition to be among Europe's leading communities for research, education and innovation. Candidates for these fellowships will be selected in accordance with this, and expected to be in the upper segment of their class with respect to academic credentials.
All candidates and projects will have to undergo a check versus national export, sanctions and security regulations. Candidates may be excluded based on these checks. Primary checkpoints are the Export Control regulation, the Sanctions regulation, and the national security regulation.

About the position A Postdoctoral Research Fellowship (SKO 1352) is available in archaeological geochemistry and dating at the Department of Archaeology, Conservation and History, University of Oslo. The position is part of the project Ecological Archaeologies of the Afrotropics (EcoArch), funded by the European Research Council (ERC Synergy Grant 101224871). More information about the project can be found here. More about the position The appointed candidate will work within the overarching goal of the project EcoArch to disentangle the drivers of landscape and climate change in the Afrotropics since the introduction of domesticated food economies. Candidates should propose a research project that provides, in one form or another, an examination of landscape transformation in the Afrotropics since the advent of agriculture using high-resolution dated sediment cores recovered from lakes or swamps as well as archaeological sites. The candidate will work in conjunction with the Tandem Laboratory at the University of Uppsala to apply state-of-the-art dating analyses coupled with compound-specific isotope analyses (CSIA) to be interpreted in tandem with biomarker analyses. Applicants are required to upload/attach a research proposal (hf.uio.no) stating how they intend to address the central research questions and offer theoretical and methodological approaches to attend to the project’s objectives. Preference will be given to independent projects devoted to addressing one or more of these following possible themes: • The roles humans have had over the last 6000 years in shaping ecological baselines. • Landscape changes across the Afrotropics following the introduction of pastoralism and plant cultivation. • Potential roles of fire, land clearance, grazing, plant selection and climate variability in shaping landscape complexion. • Use of high-precision, dated sediment cores and CSIA to shape our understandings of ecosystem functionality over different time scales. Proposals will be evaluated based on their relevance to EcoArch, feasibility and application of theoretical and practical knowledge to better understand how humans have changed ecological systems over the last 6000 years. IAKH’s archaeometry research group and laboratory provides the context for the fellowship, which houses a Büchi E-914 SpeedExtractor for extracting samples. Further laboratory analysis will take place at the Tandem Laboratory in Uppsala, and the candidate is expected to periodically travel between Oslo and Uppsala. Monil is building world-leading technology for virtual fencing and livestock monitoring and we’re on a mission to create a product experience that matches that ambition. In just three years, we’ve grown to over 1,000 customers and more than 20,000 collars in active use across multiple markets. Now we’re entering a new phase of international growth, and the quality of our user experience will be a key competitive advantage. Our technology is trusted not only by forward-thinking farmers, but also by leading research institutions and agricultural organizations across several countries. As we scale globally, we need to deliver a digital experience that is as reliable, intuitive, and thoughtfully designed as the hardware and technology behind it. That’s why we’re looking for a Frontend Engineer who wants to build products that people truly depend on in environments where usability, performance, and trust matter. In this role, you’ll help shape and build the interfaces that farmers and internal teams use daily, from onboarding and configuration to real-time monitoring and insights. You’ll work closely with product, design, and backend teams, and have a direct impact on how Monil’s platform evolves as we grow. Our devices collect tons of data about what the animals are doing. We utilize this data to improve the lives of both animals and farmers. Our expert and experienced team runs our extensive cloud platform, applying deep expertise to provide the best solutions. In Monil, we don't work in silos – you'll have the chance to contribute to the entire software stack together with our experienced team. We strongly believe in sharing knowledge and constantly learning, with no strict divides between frontend, back-end and infrastructure. As a Frontend Engineer in Monil, you'll work very closely together with back-end engineers and be encouraged to contribute to the entire stack. What we're looking for • 1–3+ years of experience building production-ready applications with React and/or modern frontend frameworks • Solid understanding of TypeScript, component architecture, and state management • Experience working with APIs (GraphQL or REST) • BSc or MSc in Computer Science, Informatics or Engineering Bonus points for: • Experience with React Native or native mobile development • Experience working in a startup or fast-paced environment • Real-life experience with farming or agriculture (not required, but appreciated) • Norwegian language skills (preferred but not required) Fluency in Norwegian is preferred (we make exceptions for the exceptional). Our Tech Stack • React and React Native: We're building our apps rapidly and correctly – React and React Native helps us do both. This mature way of building apps lets us focus on the important parts, while also peeking under the hood and build features directly for iOS and Android where needed. We're using TypeScript to enforce types, and Expo to simplify our React Native project. • GraphQL and gRPC: The main interface between the frontends and our servers is our GraphQL API, which lets us efficiently fetch data and update it in real-time. The API lets us fetch what we need and also communicate directly with devices on animals. • NodeJS, Go, Kubernetes: Our back-ends are written in Go and run on Kubernetes, letting us quickly build new APIs – with features often spanning the entire stack. Even if your main focus is Frontend, you'll get the chance to get experience with the whole stack. We can offer Join a high-growth startup entering an exciting international scale-up phase. You won’t just write code, you’ll own features and initiatives, influence technical decisions, and help build the foundation of a growing company.Nevertheless your work will create meaningful impact by improving animal welfare, farming efficiency, and global sustainability. You’ll collaborate with a highly interdisciplinary team across hardware, embedded systems, backend, and frontend. We offer a competitive salary, including an option program. Requirements Candidates must have the right to work in Norway or within the EU/EEA, as we are unable to support relocation or visa sponsorship from outside this area.
