Alice & Bob is developing the first universal, fault-tolerant quantum computer to solve the world’s hardest problems.
The quantum computer we envision building is based on a new kind of superconducting qubit: the Schrödinger cat qubit 🐈⬛. In comparison to other superconducting platforms, cat qubits have the astonishing ability to implement quantum error correction autonomously!
We're a diverse team of 250+ brilliant minds from over 35 countries united by a single goal: to revolutionise computing with a practical fault-tolerant quantum machine. Are you ready to take on unprecedented challenges and contribute to revolutionising technology? Join us, and let's shape the future of quantum computing together!
About the role
We're a fast-moving scale-up and our infrastructure needs to keep pace. That’s why we're looking for a Senior Site Reliability Engineer to own the reliability, automation, and security of our GCP platform, and to set the bar for how we run production as we grow.
You'll spend most of your time building and operating systems, but you'll also mentor more junior engineers and shape the practices the rest of the team works by. If you like having real ownership, moving quickly without breaking things, and turning manual toil into automation, you'll fit right in.
Do you want to change the world? At Cabify, that’s what we’re doing. We aim to make cities better places to live by improving mobility for the people living in them, connecting riders to drivers, providing mobility alternatives such as scooters and mopeds and many others to come, all at the touch of a button. Maybe one day cities will be places where nobody needs a private car. But we’ve still got a long way to go… Fancy joining us? Our Product & Engineering teams are both based in Madrid, with a strong remote culture, and include an eclectic bunch of awesome people from different backgrounds like Ruby, Go, Elixir, Javascript, and Python. Right now we’re working on some pretty greenfield projects with a solid set of product ideas lined up ready for innovative engineers to tackle. And of course we have big plans to take over the taxi app service industry! Site Reliability Engineers at Cabify work on improving all aspects of our platform and have an impact across the whole organisation. They are a blend of systems engineers and software developers who solve scalability issues with software and implement the best production engineering and security practices. Check our Public Tech Handbook >HERE< to know a bit more about us! As a Site Reliability Engineer, you will be: * Evolving our infrastructure platform building self-service components that will be used by all the engineering team and by millions of users around the world. * Working closely with our Product and Infrastructure teams to architecture and develop world-class infrastructure components. * Designing and implementing tooling to improve the availability, scalability, observability and latency of our services, which are used by internal customers to deploy and operate their services. * Increasing reliability awareness with other teams, helping with the adoption of reliability principles and reviewing observability implementations or software architectures. * Defining SLIs, SLOs and SLAs as part of the services' lifecycle. * Sharing an on-call schedule for the platform services you own. * Solving problems in our highly available platform together with other teams, then build automations to prevent incidents from happening again. * Participating in our recruiting process to help grow our engineering team. You may be a fit for this role if you: * Think Unix, you know the networking stack, the OSI model, containers (and schedulers), and you know your way around monitoring, logging and the CAP theorem (bonus!). * Have strong programming skills in at least one language, and know your way around a few more or can learn them if the opportunity arises. * Automate yourself out of everything by nature, making machines do the toil. * Communicate effectively and asynchronously. * Care about the things that affect the company, your team, and yourself. * Embrace diversity and humbleness (and a bit of trolling). * Prefer taking iterative action over waiting for things to happen or to be perfect. * Strongly favor simplicity over complexity. Ie, adhering to the KISS principle. * Have a sense for identifying, exploiting and elevating bottlenecks. * Are not afraid of expressing yourself in English. We aren't expecting you to have the Queen's accent, but you'll be part of an international team and we communicate in English, so you should be comfortable with that. * Enjoy herding cats and shaving yaks. Ie, being a great influence to other product teams and teaching them best practices. As well as analyzing and simplifying our setup. Projects you could work on: * Helping us iterate on and improve our Kubernetes setup (AWS EKS) and surrounding infrastructure (i.e. secrets, container images and repositories) using Terraform. * Iterate our networking layer to implement network policies, service mesh, and more… * Evolving our observability platform (Grafana stack and Cortex), in order to provide a first-class service to all of our engineering teams. * Operating and improving the persistence layer (SLQ and no-SQL DBs). * Maintaining our company-wide code repository and continuous integration solution (GitLab) What’s it like to work at Cabify? We’re a company full of happy, motivated people, and we never want that to change. Here are some more reasons why it rocks to be part of our high-performance team: 💶 Excellent Salary conditions: L4 [up to 75K] ⌚Flexible work environment & hours. 🙌Regular team events. 🚗Cabify staff free rides. 🚀Personal development programs based on our career paths. 🧘♀️ iFeel: Free access to the iFeel platform, so you can take care of your emotional well-being through therapy sessions. 📐Coursera: your own license in Coursera to take as many courses as you wish and continue developing your skills. 📐Free access to O'Reilly - The largest technical leading platform for engineers. 💳Flexible compensation plan: Restaurant tickets, transport tickets, healthcare and childcare 💻All the equipment you need (you only have to bring your talent). ABOUT US What if your work could drive change in a globally established industry, shaping processes that touch every corner of the world? At Forto, we are at the forefront of change, harnessing the power of AI to revolutionise logistics. We want to reinvent digital supply chains to be transparent, frictionless and sustainable. From day one, our mission has been to simplify global trade – creating a seamless and efficient logistics process. YOUR ROLE & MISSION The Site Reliability Engineering team at Forto is responsible for reliability and developer experience. We enable our development teams to write complex business logic by providing best-in-class tooling and infrastructure. We have a production environment based on GCP, Kubernetes, Terraform, and Helm. On top of that, we have self-service tooling written in TypeScript. “You build it, you run it” - our job is to make that real. This is a high-ownership role on a lean team that directly shapes how 70+ engineers build and ship software. If you care about platform quality and want your work felt immediately across an engineering org, this is a great match for you. WHAT YOU WILL DO * Build out our runtime platform as a self-service product that enables our engineering teams to write code, run workloads, and drive engineering culture forward. * Bring software development skills and practices into platform engineering, such as code quality, domain-driven design, and test-driven development. * Own the developer portal and internal platform roadmap, including leading this year's overhaul of our CI/CD pipelines in collaboration with all product teams. * Ensure site reliability by building observability solutions, deployment, and disaster recovery capabilities. * Own reliability standards end-to-end through SLOs and error budgets — shaping how teams balance velocity and risk. * Drive infrastructure cost optimisation across Kubernetes, MongoDB, and Datadog at scale. * Improve our security posture through tooling, compliance work, and partnership with security stakeholders. * Work closely with the entire Engineering function as a steward of platform architecture — embracing new technologies and cleaning up old ones. * Improve developer productivity by working with engineers on platform services and developer tooling. * Serve as a second line of defense for incidents and be the secondary on-call for our developers. REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE * 5+ years in backend or infrastructure engineering, with at least 2 years in an SRE or platform engineering role. * Hands-on experience with GCP/AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform, and Helm in a production environment. * Strong software development background — building frameworks, internal tooling, and infrastructure. * Experience with an observability platform (Datadog or equivalent) at scale — not just dashboards, but alerting strategy, cost management, and SLO instrumentation. * Experience defining and operating SLOs and error budgets as a reliability mechanism, not just as metrics. * Solid understanding of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and a GitOps-first mindset. * Proven track record designing, developing, and troubleshooting complex distributed systems. Don’t fit all of our criteria? That’s okay! We know that you might be hesitant to apply if you don’t meet all our requirements, but here at Forto, we pride ourselves on embracing diverse perspectives and celebrating potential. If you are passionate about this position and the Forto values, please apply anyway. There could be a place for you in this role - or another one that’s a perfect fit! WHY WORK WITH US? Our team is hard-working, constantly seeking to maximise the impact of their work, but we put our people first, always winning with care. We value efficient systems and swift, direct communication. We want everyone to have their time to speak, so that we can embrace diverse perspectives to help drive towards solutions always.
