What You’ll Be Doing
We're looking for an Engineering Team Lead to lead one of our product engineering teams here at Capital on Tap.
This is a people-first leadership role. You'll be responsible for the growth, wellbeing, and performance of a team of engineers,
while staying technically credible enough to shape direction, remove blockers, and raise the bar on quality. You won't be the best
coder in the room you'll be the person who makes the whole room better.
If you're an experienced Team Lead Engineer looking to own a team in a scaling fintech, this role is built for you.
Your team. Hiring, developing, and retaining engineers. Running 1:1s that actually matter. Spotting who's ready to grow and
creating the space for them to do it.
Delivery. Partnering with Product and QA to plan and ship reliably not by micromanaging, but by removing obstacles, managing risk,
and keeping the team focused on what matters.
Culture. Setting the tone for how the team communicates, gives feedback, and holds itself accountable. Building psychological
safety without sacrificing standards.
Technical credibility. You won't be heads-down in the codebase every day, but you'll understand the trade-offs your team is
navigating architecture decisions, technical debt, build vs buy and contribute meaningfully to those conversations.
Leadership first. You've managed engineers before and have a point of view on what good looks like. You know how to have hard
conversations, give developmental feedback, and motivate people.
Technical foundation in .NET. Our backend is C#/.NET Core and you'll need enough depth to earn trust with your engineers, review
decisions, and spot risks. You don't need to be across every layer of the stack you need to be honest about what you know and
curious about what you don't.
Product mindset. You think about engineering in the context of business outcomes, not just technical correctness. You can push
back on scope, advocate for quality, and translate between engineering and non-technical stakeholders.
Comfort with ambiguity. Capital on Tap is growing. Priorities shift. We want someone who creates clarity for their team rather
than waiting for it.

As QA Team Lead, you will shape how we think about quality, grow the capability of the people around you, and help us ship faster with confidence. You will be expected to drive AI tool adoption across the team and embed intelligent tooling into everyday engineering practice. What You'll Be Doing 🗃️ People, Coaching & Knowledge Sharing * Coach the team on best practices and domain knowledge to ensure they are self-sufficient. * Transform junior members into independent experts capable of leading their own initiatives. * Establish a “Self-Serve First” culture and document answers so the team does not rely on the Lead’s memory. * Deliver performance conversations with compassion - separate the work from the person and focus on the mechanism of failure rather than blame. Influence & Stakeholder Alignment * Partner with Dev and UX to govern the feature lifecycle and ensure the team has the context to act independently. * Represent QA in company-wide working groups and influence the wider engineering roadmap and priorities. * Push back constructively on unrealistic demands before they become debt the team must manage alone. * Align quality standards with business priorities so the team can play the game effectively from the sidelines. Ownership & Impact * Ensure the team can deliver sprint goals and resolve incidents without the Lead’s direct involvement. * Author and maintain mission-level Quality OKRs; use data to drive continuous improvement. * Treat unreleased or untested work as a liability; maintain an urgency mindset to ship frequently. * Decisively manage underperformance and pursue a better fit when a role does not match an employee’s strengths. AI Enablement & Innovation 🤖 * Champion the use of Claude and GitHub Copilot across the QA team for test generation, data creation, and root-cause analysis. * Evaluate and adopt emerging AI tools that reduce toil and improve signal quality in testing pipelines. * Establish clear guidelines for responsible AI use in testing: prompt engineering standards and review gates. * Partner with Platform Engineering to integrate AI-assisted tooling into CI/CD pipelines. Reporting functionally to your mission team’s Lead, you will be the quality champion for your specific feature set. You will leverage standardised automation tooling to maximise test coverage, accelerate delivery velocity, and maintain the highest quality standards for our products. What You'll Be Doing 🗃️ Mission Team Quality Ownership & Strategy * Define and own the comprehensive testing strategy for your domain (e.g., payments, banking, onboarding), ensuring end-to-end quality and compliance in partnership with the QA Team Lead. * Act as the primary contributor for automation; design, develop, and maintain robust automated tests (API, UI, Mobile). * Champion a "Shift-Left" mindset, working with Product Owners and Developers from the refinement stage to ensure quality is engineered in from the start. * Directly manage the mission team’s automation targets and use data-driven insights (MTTD/MTTR, defect escape rates) to predict high-risk areas.
