About the Team The Runtime team operates in a highly technical environment, delivering complex engineering work that demands strong technical leadership, clear execution, and thoughtful people management.   About the Role We're hiring an Engineering Manager who combines people leadership with strong delivery and project management. This isn't a hands-on coding role, but you'll need enough technical depth to understand architecture, engage credibly with engineers, and support sound decision-making. You'll focus on team health, execution, planning, and cross-functional coordination, helping the team navigate trade-offs, timelines, and stakeholder expectations. A background as a Technical Project Manager or Engineering Manager in a deeply technical environment would be a strong fit. What You’ll Do * Lead, coach, and support a team of around 9 engineers within the Runtime function * Create a healthy, high-trust team environment with a strong focus on people management and team care * Drive planning, prioritisation, and execution across complex technical workstreams * Negotiate timelines and delivery trade-offs with stakeholders in a clear and pragmatic way * Build enough technical context to understand architecture discussions and help translate them into executable plans * Partner closely with technical leaders and contributors to keep projects moving and unblock delivery * Improve team ways of working, communication, and delivery predictability in a distributed environment * Support hiring, onboarding, and ongoing development of team members as the organisation grows What You’ll Bring * Experience leading engineering or highly technical teams in an Engineering Manager or Technical Project Manager capacity * Strong people management skills, with a track record of building healthy teams and supporting individual growth * Excellent project and delivery management skills, including planning, dependency management, and stakeholder communication * Sufficient technical depth to understand complex system architecture and work effectively with senior engineers * Comfort operating in a role that is more focused on leadership and delivery than on hands-on coding * Strong judgement when balancing technical complexity, team wellbeing, and delivery outcomes * Experience working with distributed teams, ideally across Europe or closely aligned European time zones * Nice to have: experience in similarly technical or infrastructure-heavy environments About Working With Us Joining Parity means joining team mates who are genuinely excited about the impact their projects are having, and the opportunity to grow alongside some of the brightest minds in the Web3 space! This spans the full stack from runtime and parachain development environments through to infrastructure supporting live applications and events. We run environments at different stability tiers, from fast-moving test networks with daily automated updates to production networks with 24/7 on-call coverage. It's a small team, so the role carries broad scope. The Role We're looking for an engineering manager who can lead a team of experienced SRE engineers and raise the standard of what reliability looks like in a blockchain infrastructure context. The team is technically capable. What it needs is someone who can set engineering direction, build the conditions for good work, and think clearly about reliability as a discipline: SLOs, error budgets, blameless postmortems. What We're Looking For Systems thinking. You have a genuine understanding of distributed systems and large-scale infrastructure. You don't need to be the most senior engineer technically, but you need to be credible to people who are. Reliability. You've worked in or led a team that takes SRE seriously. You know what error budgets are actually for, when SLOs are miscalibrated, and how to run postmortems that improve things. Automation. You get uncomfortable when skilled engineers spend time on work a machine could do. You've built teams that automate away the repetitive work rather than just absorbing it. People development. You have a track record of engineers growing under your leadership, ideally some of them moving on to bigger things. Comfort with unusual territory. Blockchain infrastructure has properties that don't map cleanly onto standard cloud operations. You don't need prior Web3 experience, but you shouldn't be put off by it either. ABOUT THE TEAM Parity’s Security Engineering team is at the forefront of protecting the Polkadot ecosystem by designing and implementing secure software, auditing code for vulnerabilities, and building cutting-edge ML tools to automate security analysis. We work closely with development teams to embed security best practices across our open-source stack, ensuring that our blockchain infrastructure is robust, resilient, and secure by design. ABOUT THE ROLE As a security-focused software engineer, you will go beyond traditional application security - you’ll audit and ideally write secure Rust code where needed, conduct deep manual and automated code audits, and leverage machine learning to enhance security across our ecosystem. This is an opportunity to shape the security landscape of the next generation of decentralized applications and protocols. * Assist in developing Secure Software – Write and optimise Rust code to build security-critical components and tools. * Code Auditing & Vulnerability Analysis – Perform deep manual and automated code reviews to identify and mitigate security vulnerabilities. * ML-Powered Security – Design and implement machine learning models for automated security analysis, anomaly detection, and threat mitigation. * Bug Bounty & Vulnerability Management – Manage bug bounty submissions, triage security reports, and collaborate with ethical hackers to resolve issues. * Secure Development Best Practices – Work with engineering teams to integrate security best practices into the software development lifecycle. * Threat Modeling & Risk Assessment – Identify and assess security risks in our blockchain infrastructure, smart contracts, and core software. * Stay Cutting-Edge – Research and implement the latest advancements in secure coding, ML-driven security, and blockchain security. WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR * Experience with secure coding practices and memory safety concepts. * Background in code auditing, vulnerability analysis, or exploit development. * Experience triaging and resolving bug bounty reports. * Knowledge of machine learning techniques applied to security (e.g., anomaly detection, fuzzing, automated threat detection). * Familiarity with cryptographic principles, blockchain security, or decentralized systems. * Strong problem-solving skills and an offensive security mindset.
