Responsibilities: You will be embedded in a team alongside engineers, product managers, and data scientists as well as very close
operational and customer-facing colleagues. You’ll build and advocate for functional, delightful, and disruptive customer journeys
that pack a lot of value. You’ll work experimentally and iteratively. You’ll conduct user research independently with the help of
our consulting user researchers. You’ll be the person accountable for the product’s customer experience and satisfaction in your
domain.

What you need to succeed * 3+ years in a senior product design role, with a strong focus on UX and a demonstrated ability to lead impactful projects * Mastery of visual design, typography, grids, layout, and colour theory. * Expertise in interaction design, information architecture, and user flows. * Deep understanding of designing for both mobile and web platforms, ensuring responsive and adaptive experiences. * Strong knowledge of behavioural psychology and how it influences user decision-making. * Extensive experience conducting usability testing, user interviews, and heuristic evaluations. * Ability to synthesise qualitative and quantitative insights into impactful design decisions. * Familiarity with UX analytics tools (Google Analytics, Mixpanel, Hotjar, etc.). * Proficiency in atomic design principles and building scalable UI frameworks. * Strong knowledge of motion design tools (Lottie, After Effects, Principle) to create dynamic user experiences. * Experience mentoring and guiding junior designers. * Ability to articulate design rationale and influence stakeholders across teams. * Comfortable working in agile, fast-paced product teams. * Figma mastery - deep experience with auto layout, design tokens, component variants, interactive prototypes, and scalable design libraries. * Proven experience in fintech and/or SaaS environments, with a strong understanding of industry challenges and user behaviours. Define success criteria upfront, use evidence to drive decisions, and work closely with PM, Engineering, and Technical Writing to get things over the line. * Set the craft bar – Set quality standards through strong visual and interaction design, and provide constructive feedback that raises the level of work around you. * Define strategic direction – Bring validated user evidence and a strong point of view to roadmap discussions before direction is set. Use journey maps, storyboards, and design explorations to connect day-to-day work to a longer-term vision. * Enable the broader team – Help designers across the product understand and apply AI capabilities effectively in their own areas. Contribute AI-specific patterns to Pajamas Design System that others can build on, and share knowledge that raises the design quality of AI experiences across GitLab. * Mentor and grow – Guide other designers in developing their skills, participate in hiring by interviewing candidates and evaluating portfolios, and share what you know generously. WHAT YOU'LL BRING * A strong portfolio showing how you think and iterate, not just what shipped, ideally including AI/ML products, agentic workflows, or natural language interfaces where user control, transparency, and trust were key considerations. * Experience designing for AI workflows. You understand the unique challenges of multi-step, agentic, or automated processes and how to design for them effectively. * A high bar for craft. You care deeply about the details of interaction and visual design, and help others raise their standards too. * Experience conducting research and translating findings into clear, well-reasoned design decisions. * Proven ability to work iteratively in agile product development, balancing speed with quality and making smart tradeoffs without losing sight of the longer-term vision. * Experience designing in complex enterprise contexts, with working knowledge of Git, HTML/CSS, accessibility best practices, and design systems. * Excellent communication skills. ABOUT THE TEAM The AI Product Design team is part of GitLab's broader UX organization, focused exclusively on creating exceptional experiences for AI-powered features across our DevSecOps platform. Our designers partner closely with AI Product Management and Engineering, as well as collaborators from across the entire product, from code creation to security scanning.
