ENGINEERING MANAGER, CAPITAL The Opportunity We’re looking for an Engineering Manager to lead the development of our Capital product, powering how businesses conduct business expenses and payment transactions. Capital is the next growth frontier as Adyen grows into a comprehensive financial service provider beyond Payments. This is a rapidly growing space, giving you the opportunity to influence the strategy, own the roadmap, explore and deploy AI first product development, and see it through from early build to a scaled product. As an engineering leader, you’ll work closely with partners across engineering, product, commercial, and operations to deliver a best-in-class Issuing solution that serves both enterprise clients and embedded finance partners. This San Francisco-based role is part of the broader Financial Products organization, which owns the full suite of financial services at Adyen. What You'll Do: * Drive the Roadmap: Develop and execute the technical roadmap for expanding the richness of our Issuing proposition globally, translating ambitious business goals into world-class technical reality. * Technical Authority and Excellence: Act as a technical leader and domain expert for Issuing, challenging and driving technical design and solutions to ensure an exceptionally high technical bar. You will be the point person for product technical decisions, speaking for the product across the organization and to customers. * People & Performance: Coach, mentor, and build a high-performing team from the ground up. What You'll Do: * People Leadership: 3+ years of experience in people management, with a proven ability to build, retain, and constructively grow high-performance engineering teams. * Technical Depth: You possess a high technical bar and in-depth knowledge of how to build and scale a world-class, API-based financial service. You should be comfortable discussing and challenging decisions made by Senior+ engineers, and working with our tech stack: Java, Postgres, Kafka, RabbitMQ, Redis, Elastic. * Execution Mindset: Strong execution skills are paramount. WHAT YOU'LL NEED * 5+ years of engineering leadership experience managing and scaling distributed systems teams. * Strong technical background in distributed systems, workflow orchestration engines, scheduling systems, or data infrastructure tooling. * Previous working experience in large scale orchestration frameworks such as Apache Airflow, Dagster, Flyte, Prefect, Kubeflow, Maestro or similar platforms, and understanding of challenges around scaling, observability, and multi-tenancy. * Strong familiarity with software engineering principles, including object-oriented and functional programming paradigms, design patterns, and code quality practices. * A track record of partnering across engineering, product, and cross-functional teams to deliver reliable, high-quality infrastructure at scale. * Excellent written and verbal communication skills, especially in synthesizing complex technical concepts for broad audiences. EXPERIENCE: * BS/MS or equivalent in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. * 5+ years of software engineering industry experience with technical leadership. * 3+ years of experience with people management. * Experience launching consumer facing products * Experience working on a growth-focused team/org and having experience launching 0 to 1 products is a plus. * Experience managing a diverse set of engineering roles, such as server and mobile * Excellent communication skills and ability to communicate complex technical trade-offs effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. * Ability to work with a low-ego, highly collaborative, and cross-functional mindset while actively lifting up the team.
