Global Payroll Manager We are looking for a hands-on and strategic Global Payroll Manager to join our dynamic Payroll team within the Finance function. This role is an individual contributor role and opportunity for a flexible, financially-minded professional to navigate a global landscape. You will not be siloed into a single country; instead, you will manage a mix of in-house processing and outsourced vendor partnerships across the Americas. As a Payroll Manager, you will be instrumental in coordinating payroll for (a selection of) our 20+ entities globally, working closely with our external payroll providers. You'll report directly to the Global Head of Payroll in Amsterdam and you will be based in our San Francisco office. New phase: You’re joining us at a pivotal moment. As a team, we are moving away from manual, reactive work towards a future of scalable, automated solutions. Your role provides the essential stability and accuracy that allows our team to function as a strategic partner to the wider business. We want people who are inspired by this shift and ready to help us build a world-class financial platform. What you will do * Execute & control: You will be hands-on in preparing and executing payrolls, this role focuses primarily on the US and other countries in the Americas. This includes validating inputs, managing data flows, and thoroughly reviewing the output from our global vendors to ensure 100% accuracy before payment. * Automation & process: You will be a champion for data integrity and system efficiency. You will identify manual inefficiencies and design and implement scalable workflows that connect seamlessly with HR and Finance workflows. * Stakeholder management: You will be a business partner to our HR and Finance teams. You will actively manage external payroll vendors to ensure they meet our high standards. * Employee support: You will be a point of contact for our colleagues. You will handle payroll-related queries with empathy and speed, helping employees understand their pay-slips situations. * Financial ownership: You will bridge the gap between Payroll and Accounting. You are responsible for the General Ledger (GL) journals, month-end reconciliations, and variance analysis to ensure our books match our bank. * Compliance: You have experience with US multi-state payroll tax withholding. * Research: You don't just follow existing rules; you stay ahead of them. You will actively research and monitor evolving local tax requirements and proactively implement changes to ensure we remain compliant before issues arise. Who you are * Experience: You have at least 6 years of experience in payroll. You have a solid grasp of payroll accounting principles and the General Ledger. * Mindset: You are flexible and thrive in an environment where processes are not always set in stone. You are comfortable switching between different operating models and regions. * Curious: You are naturally curious and don't take things at face value. You ask "why," dig into the details to understand the root cause of discrepancies, and are eager to learn how complex mechanisms (like shadow payrolls) work. * Global mindset: You think beyond your office. You are culturally aware and flexible enough to work across different time zones when the business requires it. * Team player: You are collaborative and communicative. You realize that payroll is a team sport, and you are ready to jump in and support colleagues during peak times. You are able to work across timezones. * Systems: Strong preference for experience with Workday and the Workday payroll module. More importantly, you have a natural aptitude for systems and are eager to learn new tools. * Financial acumen: You aren't scared of debits and credits. You have experience (or a strong interest) in how payroll impacts the P&L and Balance Sheet. * Proactive: You spot errors before they happen and speak up when you see a better way to do things. We're building a finance function that stays ahead of the curve — leveraging AI, automation, and modern tooling to operate at the pace Databricks demands. The Senior Manager, Close & Consolidations, that we’re looking to add to the team will lead Databricks’ global close and consolidation process as we continue to scale. This is a hands-on, builder-oriented role responsible for overseeing the global close process across Finance, driving close discipline and accountability, and executing the global consolidation process. This role will be reporting to the Senior Director of Accounting. Close quality is non-negotiable. Success in this role requires strong operational execution, sound technical accounting judgment, and the ability to maintain a big-picture view across entities, regions, systems, processes, and teams. You’ll provide leadership with clear updates on close status, risks, and delays, ensure issues are escalated and resolved timely, and help design how the close process should operate in the future. You’ll also play a key role in our SAP implementation and help build an offshore operating model that supports scale while maintaining strong review, judgment, and accountability. The impact you will have: * Own and drive the global close process across Finance, including key milestones, dependencies, status updates, risks, delays, and escalations. * Drive AI and automation adoption across the close and consolidation process, including automated intercompany eliminations, AI-assisted consolidation variance analysis, and leveraging Databricks to improve data quality, reduce manual journal entries, and accelerate close cycle times. * Execute and own the global consolidation process across monthly, quarterly, and annual close, ensuring the consolidated books are complete, accurate, timely, and audit-ready. * Lead consolidation-related activities, including allocations, cost plus, eliminations, revaluation, intercompany activity, consolidated trial balance review, hedging and related technical close matters. * Own functional currency assessments for new and existing entities, including evaluating operational impacts of currency designations, monitoring for triggering events that may require reassessment, and ensuring foreign currency translation and revaluation are executed accurately across the global close. * Explain quarterly financial statement fluxes, including key drivers, for Auditors and Accounting/Finance leadership. * Support new entities, acquisitions, and changes in corporate structure by ensuring close, consolidation, intercompany, and reporting impacts are understood and operationalized. * Own chart of accounts structure and governance, ensuring the account structure supports scalable close processes, reporting needs, controls, and future-state operations. * Lead and develop team members; set clear expectations, coach through the work, and raise the bar on ownership, review quality, and timeliness. * Partner with our Transformation team to redesign close processes, reduce manual work, improve data quality, strengthen controls, and accelerate close timing. * Play a key Accounting role in the SAP implementation, including close and consolidation process design, chart of accounts structure, testing, data readiness, cutover, and post-go-live stabilization. * Partner cross-functionally with FP&A, Technical Accounting, Tax, Treasury, Finance Systems, and broader Finance teams to resolve close issues at the source. What we look for: * Experience: 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including direct ownership of close and consolidation processes across multiple entities, currencies, and regions. * Leadership: 2+ years of people management experience, with a track record of setting high standards, coaching through complex accounting matters, and driving accountability across teams. * Credentials: CPA, SOX experience, and Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance required. * Technical Accounting: Deep U.S. GAAP expertise covering consolidation, intercompany accounting, foreign currency translation and revaluation, allocations, cost plus, eliminations, hedging, and functional currency assessments. * Systems & ERP: Experience operating in a large ERP environment; SAP experience required. Prior ERP implementation experience strongly preferred. Comfort working with large datasets, system reports, reconciliations, and close management tools. * The Automation Mindset: Hands-on experience deploying or evaluating AI tools in a finance or accounting context, with a point of view on where automation creates real leverage in a close and consolidation environment versus where judgment and oversight remain critical. Familiarity with data platforms like Databricks is a strong plus. * Ownership & Mindset: High ownership, low ego, detail-oriented, fast-moving, direct communicator, and calm under pressure. Builder mindset — equally comfortable executing hands-on work and designing scalable future-state processes. * Scale & Agility: High-growth technology company experience strongly preferred.
