RDQ427R275 Location: San Francisco or Seattle At Databricks, we are passionate about enabling data teams to solve the world’s toughest problems — from making the next mode of transportation a reality to accelerating the development of medical breakthroughs. We do this by building and running the world’s best data and AI infrastructure platform so our customers can use deep data insights to improve their business. Founded by engineers — and customer obsessed — we leap at every opportunity to tackle technical challenges, from designing next-gen UI/UX for interfacing with data to scaling our services and infrastructure across millions of virtual machines. And we're only getting started. More about the team: The Serverless Workspaces team is the engine behind Databricks' shift from a "configure-first" to a "use-now" platform. We are redefining the customer onboarding experience by removing the heavy lifting of cloud infrastructure without complicated networking, storage, and cluster configuration, just instant access to data and AI. Our mission is to deliver "Workspaces in Seconds." We are building the invisible infrastructure that allows any use (not just infrastructure or IT teams) to spin up a fully governed, secure, and compliant Databricks environment instantly. You will own the strategy for this next-generation platform layer, balancing the simplicity of a SaaS experience with the control enterprise customers demand. The impact you will have: * Drive the transition to Serverless: You will lead the strategy to unify the journey to onboard to serverless and classic workspaces and drive 10X usage of serverless in the next year * Democratize Workspace Creation: You will design and ship flows that allow users to spin up workspaces instantly with little friction while maintaining strict governance guardrails and company policies * Redefine the "Getting Started" experience: You will lower the barrier to entry by removing the requirement for customers to manage detailed cloud infrastructure configurations before using Databricks but allowing them dial those in when they’re ready * Solve "Workspace Proliferation": As creating workspaces becomes easier, you will help define the tools and policies that allow Admins to confidently govern increased amounts of workspaces across the enterprise * Unify the Data Estate: You will work closely with the Unity Catalog and Identity teams to ensure that these new serverless environments seamlessly integrate with a customer’s existing data and security models. What we look for: * 7+ years of experience as a Product Manager working on cloud infrastructure, developer platforms, or SaaS foundations. * Technical depth in Cloud Infrastructure: Familiarity with AWS, Azure, or GCP resource management (e.g. networking, compute, identity) and how to abstract that complexity for end-users. * Passion for simplification: You have a track record of taking complex technical workflows (like configuring a VPC or peering) and turning them into "one-click" consumer-grade experiences. * Data-driven mindset: You are comfortable defining and tracking KPIs, such as "Time to First Workspace" or "Serverless Adoption Rate," to measure success. Our mission at Duolingo is to develop the best education in the world and make it universally available. It’s a big mission, and that’s where you come in! At Duolingo, you’ll join a team that cares about finding innovative solutions to complex technical problems, running countless experiments (300+ at a time!) with our massive user base to make data-driven decisions, and educating our users and employees alike. You’ll have limitless learning opportunities, mentorship and collaboration with world-class minds, and a variety of projects with large scopes — while doing work that’s both fun and meaningful. Join our life-changing mission to develop education for our half a billion (and growing!) learners around the world. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- About the role... This is a high-impact, high-visibility Staff TPM role at the center of one of Duolingo's most strategic engineering initiatives: dramatically reducing the effort required to get results and doubling developer productivity across the organization. You'll lead this initiative in close partnership with the Developer Amplification (DevAmp) Area, a team dedicated to accelerating how engineers work through better tooling, streamlined processes, and modern engineering practices. AI is one important lever — but the goal is the outcome: step-change improvements in how fast and effectively Duolingo engineers can build. This role is for a builder and a change agent: someone who can define what "doubling productivity" means in practice, align leadership and engineering teams around it, and drive the transformation to completion. If you thrive in ambiguity, have a bias for outcomes, and can bring people along through significant organizational change, this role is for you. 🧠 You will... * Define and drive the roadmap for doubling developer productivity across Duolingo — aligning engineering, product, and data science around a shared vision, sequencing the work, and holding teams accountable to measurable outcomes. * Lead organizational change management as engineering teams adopt new ways of working — building alignment, communicating progress to executives and ICs alike, and helping teams internalize new processes and tooling. * Partner closely with Developer Amplification (DevAmp) Area leads to accelerate developer productivity through AI-powered tooling, ensuring programs have clear goals, measurable impact, and sustained momentum across engineering squads. * Lead the delivery of strategic, high-impact cross-functional initiatives from conceptualization to launch, operating with significant autonomy across multiple workstreams. * Partner with engineering, product, data science, QA, and executive leadership to ensure communication and alignment; serve as the connective tissue between Duolingo strategy and day-to-day execution. * Leverage deep technical expertise to develop detailed plans with key milestones and goals, identify and mitigate risks, resolve dependencies, remove blockers, and ensure timely and smooth launches. * Establish and evangelize engineering practices that drive step-change improvements in developer productivity — coaching engineering leads and TPMs on new ways of working and how to measure their impact. * Drive decisions when difficult tradeoffs must be made, including those with cross-organizational or company-level impact; model how to navigate hard problems with analytical rigor and a calm, decisive presence. * Identify systemic issues impacting delivery efficiency company-wide and take swift, collaborative action to resolve them. * Guide and develop other TPMs and engineering leads, scaling best practices across teams and continuously improving how the organization operates. ✅ You have... * Proven experience as a TPM, Engineering Lead, or Engineering Manager. * B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science or equivalent degree or experience. * Demonstrated experience leading large-scale technical transformation programs with measurable organizational impact — you've shifted how engineering organizations think and work, not just shipped projects. * Strong executive presence and influence in a matrix environment — able to build conviction among skeptics, align competing priorities across senior leadership, and drive decisions without direct authority. * Deep technical credibility — enough to challenge architectural assumptions, spot delivery risks early, and earn the trust of strong engineers. * Proven ability to build and implement detailed plans that account for ambiguity, dependencies, and technical complexity — and to re-plan quickly when things change, without losing team confidence or momentum. * A track record of standing up new programs or practices from scratch in ambiguous, high-visibility environments. * Ability to relocate to Seattle, WA. ⭐ Exceptional candidates will have... * Strong knowledge of software engineering, systems engineering, or similar hands-on technical experience, in addition to program management experience. * Strong conceptual fluency in LLM-based products, AI infrastructure, and developer AI tooling - enough to ask the right questions, challenge technical assumptions, and identify delivery risks. * Experience running programs that include machine learning, large datasets, or AI/ML infrastructure. * Experience working with AWS at scale. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The offered salary is dependent upon several factors, including work experience, skills, and internal peer comparisons. The posted range is subject to change in the future. For this role, base salary is supplemented by equity compensation. Enterprise Platform: Offer a simple and powerful experience for onboarding and managing all of their data teams across 10ks of users on the Databricks platform. We do this by building reliable, scalable services and infrastructure with intuitive UIs and by delivering high-impact, cross-cutting projects that drive the "land and expand" strategy for enterprise customers. Observability: Provide a world class platform for Databricks engineers to comprehensively observe and introspect their applications and services. We build scalable data-intensive infrastructure that processes huge amounts of logs and telemetry. By doing so, we enable teams to become more data-driven and build robust services. Service Platform: Build high-quality services and manage the services in all environments in a unified way. We provide engineers libraries, tools, services and guidance to develop reliable, scalable, and secure services. We build a unified platform for engineers to deploy and update their services across different clouds and environments. Core Infra: Build the core infrastructure that powers Databricks, making it available across all geographic regions and Cloud providers.
