YOUR MISSION AT VOI We operate one of the world’s largest connected micromobility fleets, with close to 200,000 vehicles across multiple hardware generations, vehicle models and markets – and we will keep scaling significantly in the coming years. As our fleet grows in scale and complexity, firmware reliability, platform architecture, and operational robustness become increasingly critical to the business. Ultimately, your work ensures that every Voi vehicle feels safe, reliable and effortless to use – even after years of real‑world use, rough weather, and everyday wear and tear. We are now looking for a deeply experienced Staff Embedded Engineer to help lead the next generation of our vehicle and IoT platform. In this highly hands-on technical leadership role you will shape the long‑term embedded platform strategy and architecture, and work across teams, suppliers and partners to make sure our vehicles are consistently reliable. You will, among other things: * Translate rider and operator needs into platform‑level design decisions, ensuring our vehicles are intuitive to use, reliable over years in the field and straightforward for local teams to operate and maintain. * Architect and evolve a large‑scale distributed embedded platform spanning vehicle control systems, battery‑powered IoT devices and multi‑MCU/MPU platforms (including Zephyr / Linux‑capable systems). * Develop and scale platforms capable of hosting multiple ML models on‑edge based on computer vision and other sensors. * Drive the evolution of fleet‑wide OTA infrastructure, remote diagnostics and observability for hundreds of thousands of devices across 100+ cities in Europe. * Lead technical discussions and design reviews with internal teams and external hardware suppliers and manufacturing partners. * Improve resilience and recovery mechanisms for remotely deployed systems, including safe rollback strategies and recovery of bricked devices. * Drive improvements in CAN‑based vehicle communication, power systems, GNSS and geofencing in dense urban environments, and sensor reliability, including Bluetooth and NFC user interactions. * Raise the bar for engineering excellence across embedded and firmware engineering, mentoring others, refining CI/CD, testing and release processes, and introducing best‑in‑class development practices. * Champion the strategic and pragmatic adoption of Generative AI tools to increase engineering effectiveness while protecting code quality and minimising technical debt. WHAT YOU NEED TO EMBARK You are a hands-on, senior technical leader who thrives at the intersection of firmware, hardware, connectivity and large‑scale operations. You are confident in navigating high complexity, balancing strategic architectural choices with pragmatic delivery, and you enjoy mentoring others and setting engineering standards. You care about the end‑to‑end experience: from how a rider feels stepping onto a scooter, to how easy it is for our operations teams to keep the fleet safe, available and healthy over time. We believe you will bring: * Extensive experience building and operating embedded / firmware systems in real‑world environments at scale (ideally globally distributed connected device fleets). * Strong skills in embedded C/C++ development and low‑power, real‑time embedded systems. * Deep understanding of firmware architecture, hardware / software integration and distributed IoT systems. * Proven experience debugging complex field issues across firmware, hardware, manufacturing and connectivity layers. * Strong experience with embedded communication protocols such as CAN, SPI, I²C, UART and BLE. It’s a plus if you have experience with: * STM32‑based or other heterogeneous embedded architectures, and modern RTOS platforms such as Zephyr. * Secure boot, TrustZone, TPMs or other embedded security architectures, as well as Embedded Linux systems. * GNSS, geofencing, sensor fusion or other edge‑processing systems, and battery‑powered devices with a focus on power optimisation. * Operating large, globally distributed IoT fleets across varied connectivity environments, including recovering from real‑world operational failures, factory issues or large‑scale fleet incidents. This role is likely a strong match if you have scaled firmware deployments globally, built systems that remain reliable under unreliable real-world conditions, and driven architecture decisions across multiple hardware generations with a focus on long‑term maintainability and operational visibility. Don’t meet every requirement? If you are excited about this role and our mission, and have relevant, transferable skills, we encourage you to apply – even if you don’t check every box. WHY VOI? Working at Voi is more than just a job; our People Promise includes a personal voyage where you will grow as a professional and be a part of a team and culture that builds something meaningful for society. In addition to this you’ll have the opportunity to: * Join Europe’s #1 micromobility operator * Get “skin in the game” through our employee options programme. * Enjoy unlimited free Voi rides and a dog‑friendly office. * Work together with inspiring, motivated and fun colleagues towards a common goal. * Join the micromobility revolution and be a part of creating sustainable cities made for living, free from noise and pollution.
WANT TO WORK WITH AUTOMOTIVE DEVELOPMENT – BUT NOT EXPECTED TO KNOW EVERYTHING? At Knowit Connectivity, we’re growing within Automotive and are looking for more engineers to join us. What we’ve learned is that great people don’t always fit into one single box – so instead of looking for one “perfect” profile, we’re interested in people with different kinds of experience. Maybe you enjoy working close to the hardware with C/C++ in embedded systems. Maybe you prefer model-based development in Simulink. Or maybe testing, verification, or system-level work is where you feel at home. We’d like to hear from you regardless. ABOUT THE ROLE As a consultant with us, you’ll be part of a team where collaboration and knowledge sharing are important. Our projects vary, and so does the way we work – sometimes onsite with the customer, sometimes in-house, sometimes remote. We’re mainly working with customers in the Stockholm region within Automotive. We put a strong focus on competence development – not just through courses, but by building knowledge together. We want you to grow in your role and stay relevant over time. Right now, we’re putting extra focus on areas like AI and how it can be applied within automotive and embedded systems. This isn’t just something we talk about – it’s something we actively explore in our projects and internally, and you’ll have the opportunity to be part of that journey. WE THINK YOU MIGHT HAVE EXPERIENCE IN THINGS LIKE: * C/C++ or model-based development (Simulink) * Embedded systems and/or Linux * Testing (unit, integration, system) or verification * Automotive standards like ISO26262 or A-SPICE It’s great if you also know things like CAN, Autosar, Python or real-time systems – but it’s not a must. WHO YOU ARE You probably enjoy working together with others, take responsibility for your work, and are curious about learning new things. You have an interest in how technology is evolving and are open to exploring new areas, We also think you like sharing knowledge with others and contributing to a team where people learn from each other. We don’t expect you to know everything – but we do expect you to want to grow. ABOUT US Knowit offers an exciting workplace that provides great opportunities for our employees to develop, both professionally and personally.
