The role:  As a Staff Software Engineer, Backend, you will lead multi-team initiatives, leveraging your deep technical expertise to ensure alignment, quality, and long-term maintainability across the organization. You will balance hands-on technical guidance with strategic leadership, establishing engineering best practices that transcend your immediate team. By mentoring experienced engineers and building strong relationships with cross-functional stakeholders, you will drive project delivery and ensure our backend infrastructure remains scalable and robust enough to support millions of users worldwide What you will do * Lead the team to ensure we build our product efficiently and effectively. * Influence product priorities and scope, offering valuable input in decision-making. * Communicate complex decisions clearly, weighing the pros and cons of different solutions. * Mentor and guide experienced engineers, helping them develop both technically and culturally. * Leverage your experience to establish best practices across the engineering team and beyond. * Drive project delivery by aligning with cross-functional stakeholders and ensuring the team has everything needed. * Lead multi-team initiatives, contributing with technical expertise, ensuring alignment and quality. * Own the quality of the systems and services the team is responsible for. * Be hands-on, balancing strategic leadership with technical guidance to support the team. * Stay up-to-date with industry trends and technologies, ensuring the team works with the best tools available. * Build strong relationships and align efforts within the team and with external partners when necessary. * Help with recruitment by interviewing candidates What you bring in * Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent  * 8+ years of relevant experience with Scala, Java, or Go  * Experience of working with scalable, highly available, real-time distributed systems * Experience of working with relational and non-relational databases * Good understanding of data structures and algorithms * Mentoring, leadership skills * Excellent communication skills in English. * Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. * Experience with security best practices. It would be great if you also have: * Experience as a data engineer or close collaboration with data engineers. * Experience working with highly available systems. * Experience with performance tuning. * Experience with security hardening. * Experience with GDPR. * Experience creating tech strategies. You will be building strong relationships with cross-functional stakeholders, you will drive project delivery, and ensure our backend infrastructure remains scalable and robust enough to support millions of users worldwide. What you will do * Design and develop high-volume, low-latency services and cope with the challenge of working in a distributed environment. * Operate mission-critical services at high availability. * Collaborate across business units and drive solutions. * Explore new solutions and technologies. * Build a scalable and reliable system.  What you bring in:  * 5+ years of experience with Scala, Java, or Go  * Experience of working with scalable, highly available, real-time distributed systems * Experience of working with non-relational databases * Good understanding of data structures and algorithms * Mentoring/ Leadership skills * Excellent communication skills in English. * Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. It would be great if you also have: * Experience building systems in the Google Cloud Platform * Experience with virtualization environments, e.g., Docker * Experience with systems for managing containerized applications, e.g., Kubernetes * Experience with Cassandra and Kafka. The role: As a Senior Software Engineer, Backend  you will be a pivotal contributor in shaping Truecaller's technology, driving demonstrable improvements to the user experience and business profitability. Your typical day or week will be filled with a blend of technical challenges, collaboration, and innovation.  What you’ll do:  * Coding & Development: A significant portion of your day will involve hands-on coding, building scalable backend services, APIs, and microservices that power Truecaller’s Ads platform. You’ll focus on high-availability, low-latency systems using modern tech stacks. * Code Reviews: Review code written by peers to maintain high-quality standards, share best practices, and continuously improve the codebase. * Problem Solving: Troubleshoot complex technical issues, optimize existing systems for better performance, and ensure high system reliability. * Collaborating with Cross-Functional Teams: Work closely with product managers, front-end developers, data scientists, and other stakeholders to ensure the features you build align with business needs and provide a seamless user experience. * Design & Architecture Discussions: You’ll contribute to architectural decisions, ensuring that systems are designed to scale and meet the future needs of Truecaller Ads. * Team Collaboration & Mentorship: Provide mentorship to junior engineers, assist in resolving complex technical issues, and share knowledge across the team through informal or formal knowledge-sharing sessions. * Delivering Features: You’ll contribute to feature development, deploy code into production, and ensure smooth integration with the rest of the platform. * Sprint Planning & Backlog Grooming: You will participate in sprint planning sessions(bi-weekly) where you’ll break down tasks, prioritize work, and ensure alignment with the overall product roadmap. What you bring in:  * 5-9 years of experience as BE developer in a start-up or product based environment. * Excellent knowledge of  any modern programming (GO, Java, C#, Scala) language. * Good understanding of Data structures and Algorithms. * Experience of designing and architecting large scale distributed systems. * Experience in consumer-facing companies with a solid understanding of system scaling and user-centric product development is a plus. * Experience leveraging AI-powered development tools (such as GitHub Copilot, Gemini, Chatgpt, Claude or similar) to enhance coding productivity and efficiency. * Familiarity with applying AI-driven insights to optimize backend system performance and workflows. It would be great if you also have: * Experience with microservices architecture and design patterns and solid design principles. * Hands-on experience in building large scale platforms & services using Go, Scala, Play, Redis, Aerospike, Kafka & Nosql stores. * Experience with GCP or any other public cloud.
