The successful candidate will have a Computer Science degree or equivalent and possess in-depth knowledge and experience in
developing with C++. A strong background in Linux / C++ low latency optimizations is a must. A background in Linux kernel, FPGA,
and network card offloading will also be advantageous.

Your future role within QRT The successful candidate will join the global infrastructure team at QRT. You will be responsible for architecting, engineering and subsequent delivery oversight across all aspects of the QRT network estate but with particular focus on our colocation infrastructure. The trading infrastructure is a combination of wide area connectivity and ultra-low latency trading infrastructures. The team will deliver network solutions which enable full lifecycle management (architect, design, build, operate, retire) for our network components across core network switching, firewalls, load balancers, instrumentation/telemetry, network CMDB, and automation. It is crucial that any candidates must be able to demonstrate delivery of complex networks, at scale, which have been delivered through a software and automation-driven mindset. You will have deep knowledge of high-performance networking, including detailed knowledge of the product capabilities and roadmaps from the likes of Cisco, Arista and Fortinet. You will have direct experience of delivering and managing network solutions supporting corporate infrastructure and exchange specific ultra-low latency infrastructure with associated automation, telemetry and instrumentation frameworks. Your present skillset * As a senior network engineer, you will partner closely with the project management teams and work in a highly collaborative manner within the network team and the wider organisation * You will be member of an existing engineering team where you have direct responsibility and accountability for a complex and high-performance network infrastructures * You will be able to demonstrate expert knowledge of delivering complex network architectures delivered via software driven and agile methodology * You will have deep knowledge of delivering networks supporting high-performance and low latency computing architectures * You will have deep knowledge of the network vendor ecosystem and be able to demonstrate building engineering relationships at senior layers with vendor product and engineering teams * You will stay informed on industry trends and emerging technologies to ensure the network infrastructure remains cutting-edge * You will have knowledge of wide area network engineering focused on traffic prioritisation and steering. IMC is looking for a highly skilled Quantitative Microstructure Analyst to join our Performance team in Sydney. Quantitative Microstructure Analyst's at IMC collaborate with other teams, both technical and non-technical, to handle everything from optimising exchange connectivity to analysing application performance to designing systems for handling massive amounts of data. If it’s a hard problem, it’s in scope. Your Core Responsibilities: * Data and Systems Analysis: Analyse terabytes of network data to identify patterns, validate hypotheses, and optimise system performance. * Analyse, optimise, troubleshoot, and continuously tune the complete trading environment to improve the performance of our low-latency trading systems on financial exchanges. * Analyse time series exchange network captures. * Design, develop, test, and deploy simple, elegant, reusable code. * Work closely with traders and other technology teams to drive global thinking, information sharing, and sustainable, long-term solutions. * Build IMC's knowledge base to ensure a deep understanding of exchange infrastructure and protocols. * Define the direction for critical investment decisions by analysing complex technical problems in a self-directed manner. Your Skills and Experience: While not all of the below is required, a deep understanding in at least one of the following areas would be an advantage * 5+ years of experience in at least one of the areas: distributed systems, computer networks, operating system architecture, ultra-low latency environments. * Strong skills in data analytics including analysing and visualising large data sets * Knowledge of Linux kernel internals and interfaces including memory, network, and file I/O. Knowledge of eBPF is a plus. * Knowledge of networking (TCP/IP, UDP, Multicast). Knowledge of kernel network bypass technologies is a plus. * Proficiency in Python. Proficiency in C++ a bonus. * A high degree of flexibility and adaptability: willing and able to deal with uncertainty and ambiguity in a rapidly evolving environment * Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills; ability to solve problems creatively and proactively. * Ability to communicate complex ideas to technical and non-technical audiences. * Ability to see opportunities and to make them happen without supervision; a true self-starter. As a Performance Engineer at IMC, you will play a pivotal role in analysing, optimising, and tuning our systems interaction with exchange systems holistically. Working closely with cross-functional teams, you’ll be tasked with uncovering performance improvements across the trading stack. This role combines technical ingenuity with creative problem-solving to outsmart competition in one of the most demanding technical landscapes. Your Core Responsibilities: * Black Box Reverse Engineering and Analysis: Analyse and understand the behaviour of complex systems using black-box techniques, identifying performance bottlenecks and optimisation opportunities. Designing and performing statistical experiments to explain emergent real world phenomena. * Experimentation & Prototyping: Design, implement, and test innovative ideas, experiments and technologies. Develop quick internal prototypes to evaluate performance and real-world applicability. * Collaboration & Communication: Liaise effectively with traders, software and hardware engineers, and infrastructure teams to share insights and implement solutions. * System Analysis: Analyse terabytes of network data to identify patterns, validate hypotheses, and optimise system performance. Your Skills and Experience: While not all of the below is required a deep understanding in at least one of the following areas would be an advantage * Strong understanding of computer internals, Linux systems, and networking. Familiarity with tools and techniques for reverse engineering, kernel tuning, system-level optimisation, and low-level network optimisation. * Proven commercial experience with Python and/or languages like C++ or Java. * Familiarity with low-latency hardware technologies, such as Intel CPUs, FPGA, and microwave links. * Understanding of complex, bespoke networks and networking stacks. * Hands-on experience with performance tuning, and system-level optimisations. * Experience with data and system analysis. * Capable of working autonomously while contributing to a multidisciplinary team.
