In just five years, Stora has become the platform behind more than 30% of UK self storage locations, and we're scaling globally
from here. Operators have processed over £150m in automated payments through us, and see an average of 32% business growth after
they switch.
We're doing this in a market that's wide open. Europe has over 10,000 self storage sites and is growing fast, yet it sits years
behind the US on maturity and is still barely touched by good software. The UK is our stronghold. The rest of Europe is where
we're heading next.
Stora is the operating system for modern self storage: online bookings, payments, facility management, reporting, and automation
in one platform. We started as operators ourselves, and that's still how we think. If you want to own a product operators depend
on every day, in a company genuinely rethinking how it builds, this is it.
We have a strong product team, great engineers, and a growing product. The bottleneck isn't ideas or execution capacity. It's
people who can hold the full picture at once.
What the business needs, what the customer actually experiences, what's technically feasible, what to cut when time is short, and
knowing when to slow down. Making good calls across all of it. That's the job.
We've shortened the loop between insight and shipped product by stripping out the layers that slow good judgement down. The
quality bar didn't move. This role exists to keep doing that. It carries real ownership from day one, and the scope grows as Stora
does.
This is the product operators live in every day, and the storefront their own customers book through. You're designing for two
users at once: the operator running the business, and the end customer renting the unit. Getting that B2B2C experience right is a
genuine craft problem. It's a broad, central surface, and it's heavy on UX.
If an operator uses it daily, or relies on it to understand their business, it sits with this team.
We've changed how product gets built at Stora. This is how we operate now.
Designers work directly in the codebase. Engineers and product people work closely together from the start. We use AI genuinely:
to explore, prototype and move faster. The work gets closer to reality, sooner.
If you're at a company that talks about moving faster but runs the same process it did three years ago, this will feel different.
We're not done evolving how we work, and this person will have real scope to shape that.
Roughly 2+ years, though we care more about the evidence than the number
than someone who only plans
people who've started their own things tend to do well here
direction here, you don't inherit it.
operators in weeks, not quarters.
outsized impact.
When you apply, we'll ask for a link to something you've made — a product, a side project, a repo, a tool you built because
something annoyed you. It doesn't need to be polished, successful, or related to storage. We just want to see that you build.
Please include one.
We're reviewing applications as they come in and will be in touch quickly if it looks like a match.

Today, more than 50 clients, including multiple systemically important Tier 1 banks, run their most critical banking workloads on Vault Core. This platform can be self-hosted by clients or consumed as a SaaS offering operated by Thought Machine, with support across major cloud providers such as AWS, GCP, and Azure. This role is highly technical. You will work in lockstep with Engineering leadership to tackle challenges in data integrity and consistency, performance at scale, and the developer experience for those creating and launching financial products on our platform. You will define APIs and user journeys that enable our clients to deliver outstanding experiences to their customers, designing for the wide variety of banks we work with and their unique products and ways of working. This role is ideal for someone who thrives at the intersection of deeply technical domains and high-level product strategy, with good commercial instincts. You understand that your clients’ success depends on a platform that is not just functional, but has best-in-class design, is performant and resilient. By building alignment across Engineering, GTM, and Customer Success, you will ensure that platform capabilities drive adoption and deliver measurable outcomes. Duties * Own the Core Roadmap: Define and drive the strategy for Vault Core, ensuring the engine remains the industry leader in configurability, performance and resilience. * Be a product evangelist: Champion Vault Core externally and within Thought Machine, clearly communicating the scale of the ambition within our product vision and the technical functionality that will excite our clients. * Be the voice of the customer: Represent the world’s largest banks and their developers internally, collecting feedback, pursuing the highest levels of quality, and enabling engineering teams to be laser-focused on solving core banking problems. * Support client delivery: Work closely with the Client Services team and partners to guide complex implementations. Ensure effective alignment between client product requirements and the technical capabilities of the Vault Core engine. * Develop best practices: Help drive Product Management best practices and processes, working with Engineering Managers to ensure adoption and alignment across the core engine domain. Essential * 5+ years of product management experience in a product-led technology company. * Proven track record of delivering deeply technical, API-driven, or infrastructure products. * Able to think from first principles, debate complex technical ideas (e.g., consistency vs. availability in a ledger), and rapidly learn new concepts. * Strong client-facing interpersonal skills and an equally strong ability to engage in technical conversations with Enterprise Architects and CTOs. * Comfortable writing simple scripts in languages such as Python (which powers our Smart Contracts). Desirable * Experience working in regulated industries such as banking or financial services * Prior experience as a software engineer or in a highly technical role * Experience building enterprise software or working within a B2B infrastructure/platform vendor Benefits * Highly competitive salary and commission * Pension plan (match up to 5%) * Life insurance - three times annual salary * Competitive maternity (six months fully paid) and paternity leave (four weeks fully paid) * Shared parental leave (matched to our maternity leave for the same point in time) * 25 days holiday and bank holidays * Flexible working hours * Cycle-to-work scheme * Electric car scheme * Season ticket loan * Access to outstanding learning materials and courses * Sports and hobby clubs, subsidised by Thought Machine * All the latest tech you need * Start the day properly with fresh fruit and cereals * Huge range of healthy (and not-so-healthy) snacks, smoothies and drinks * A talented and experienced team as your colleagues * An environment where we encourage learning and progress * Two charity days a year * Weekly food pop-up We actively hire candidates who demonstrate technical excellence in their field and welcome people of all ages and backgrounds, providing everyone with equal access to professional development. We give finance and payments teams the visibility and control to reduce complexity, improve performance, and capture more revenue - all from a single platform. Backed by Sofina, Peak XV Partners, ICONIQ, Tencent, Accel, and Balderton, we're building the payments layer the world's best companies rely on. Watch our showcase > Read up on our $100m Series C Learn more about our culture > Primer is the payments infrastructure that lets merchants connect and orchestrate every payment service they use through a single platform, without being locked to any one processor. Design owns how that complexity ends up feeling simple to the people who actually use it. You will lead a small design team behind the core merchant product experience: the workspace where customers build, test and run their payment flows. This is a player-coach role. You’ll lead through the work, staying close to hands-on design as well as managing a team of product designers. The design challenges you’ll be working with are complex and wide-ranging. This is a role where you’ll need solid UX thinking as well as visual polish, and the ability to work in systems, flows and states. Getting it right means real depth in the problem and ownership of an elegant solution. Design here is small and high-calibre by choice. You sit as an equal alongside Product and Engineering leads, not downstream of them. The team is remote-first and globally distributed, and that will not change. WHAT WILL YOU BE DOING? * Drive the experience strategy and quality bar for your domain. You set what good looks like and you make the final call on the major design trade-offs. * Lead and develop a growing team of designers. Coach through real work, run critique that raises the bar, and have honest development conversations rather than comfortable ones. * You’ll be working on high-leverage design problems yourself, identifying areas of opportunities as well as supporting product roadmaps. * Partner with Product and Engineering leads as an equal voice on strategy for the area. You will help to shape what gets built and why, not only how it looks. * Extend the design system wherever your area exposes a gap, adding patterns and components the rest of design reuses. * Lead the research that uncovers the non-obvious problems across the different people who depend on the product, then turn it into direction. * Unblock engineering on the messy questions where the ideal design meets a real constraint, and find the answer that protects the experience. * Build the practices, critique, file standards and handoff that let a small team move fast without dropping quality. WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR * A strong portfolio of shipped product design on complex, systems-heavy products. SaaS, fintech, infrastructure or developer-facing work is the closest fit. * Experience leading designers, formally or as the senior person others looked to. You know how to raise quality through other people, not only your own hands. * Real craft depth across interaction, visual and information architecture. You’re familiar with setting and levelling up the standard of work you’re driving. Things are better because you’ve been involved. * A history of owning a domain end to end, from ambiguous problem to shipped, measured outcome. * The judgment to know when to go deep and when to move, and the autonomy to run an area without close management. NICE TO HAVE: * Familiarity with payments, financial services or another regulated, high-stakes domain. * Experience building or extending a design system in production. YOU MAY NOT LIKE IT HERE * If you want to step out of the tools entirely and manage, this is not it. We’re a team of builders where everyone stays close to the work and the problems we’re solving. We value great management, but believe in leading through the work not apart from it. * High autonomy means low hand-holding. Nobody hands you a defined roadmap or tells you how to run your area. You set the direction and you own the result. * The problem space is dense and complex. You will spend real time understanding how payments actually work, not just the visible interface. * Remote-first means written, asynchronous and self-directed. If you need an office to do your best work, you will struggle here. ✅ A TYPICAL INTERVIEW PROCESS * An initial intro call with a Talent Partner * An interview with the Hiring Manager * Challenge Stage - Contextualised to the role * A final, values-alignment interview WHAT'S THE CULTURE LIKE AT PRIMER? We invest in our relationships through great remote working practices and thoughtfully designed face-to-face time, including workations, our annual company retreat, and access to co-working spaces across most major cities. The work is challenging. Scaleups are a challenge, and building category-defining products is a challenge. But there's a meaningful difference between a challenge and a struggle. At Primer, the right challenge comes with the right support: strong onboarding, a collaborative environment, and a team that is genuinely invested in your success. It's never something you face alone.
