We have an exciting opportunity for a Technical Director to join our Water and Climate Division, focusing on the flood risk sector
and taking a leading role in delivering smart and innovative research and consultancy solutions for our clients.

About the role
We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated individual with specialist flood risk expertise who can lead the further
development of new ideas and solutions, whilst providing confident project delivery and technical support for our clients.
The role will span both research and consultancy projects – requiring both a strong technical background and excellent proposal,
project management and project direction skills.
About you
You will have at least 15 years of proven track record managing complex, multi-disciplinary delivery of water projects relating to
flood risk. You will have excellent understanding and exposure to flood management methods and their application in the UK and
internationally. You will have an extensive project management and delivery track record (ideally of projects involving
hydrological and hydraulic modelling).
You will be able to demonstrate commercial acumen through successful work winning, commercial stewardship, and client relationship
development. You will have taken a leading role on projects in the UK and overseas, having the ability to drive change through
innovative thinking and solutions, and the capacity to inspire others through training and mentoring.
Good people skills are also important to us. A typical day for you could involve preparing a technical proposal, directing a flood
risk management project team, discussing ideas for flood-related research and innovation projects, writing a paper for a
peer-reviewed journal or leading meetings with clients and funding agencies.
You will hold Chartered status with a relevant professional institution (e.g. MICE) and commitment to professional progression.

The Role... Reporting to the Director of HSS UK, Europe and Asia, this role is a subject matter expert and will be responsible for providing health and safety, fire safety, and food safety support and advice across our London sites with occasional travel to Houses outside of London. Following our internal safety management systems, policies, and training programmes, you will also work with the UK HSS team to create and give feedback on new HSS initiatives, campaigns, policies, and play an important part in driving standards of excellence. The role will positively drive and improve safety culture within the business, leading by example. *This is 10 Month Maternity cover contract* Key Accountabilities... * Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive health and safety policies in line with UK legislation (e.g. Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, COSHH, RIDDOR, etc. and Approved Codes of Practices). * Investigate all health, fire, and food safety accidents, incidents, and near misses, ensuring these are recorded and processed in line with company procedures in a timely manner, and implement change where possible to prevent recurrence. * Create and review company risk assessments for all work equipment and operations in the business as required, and ensure safe systems of work are in place, including completion of COSHH risk assessments. * Conduct internal H&S, food safety, and fire safety audits and report on performance to management teams on site, to provide a safe environment for our employees, members, and customers. * Liaise with General Managers and Safety and Operation Managers to ensure statutory compliance is always achieved in all sites, and ensure structured plans and processes are in place to maintain high standards. * Ensure compliance documentation for equipment and structure are maintained and available for inspection when required. * Assist with periodic delivery of safety related training to drive a culture of continuous improvement and high standards, as well as helping in the development of safety related training materials. Experience Required... * NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent (required). * Pool Plant Operator Advanced Course (desirable). * Qualified to minimum Level 3 or 4 in Food Safety (desirable). * Minimum of three years’ experience managing occupational health and safety and risk management in similar environment and ability to influence and lead a H&S culture. * Auditing skills and experience of management systems. * Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills and be able to produce concise reports and action plans. * Be proactive, have good organisational skills, and work independently as well as part of a team. * Have the ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with internal and external stakeholders at all levels. * Be engaging and can build trust and influence a positive safety culture. The Role.. Reporting to the Director of HSS UK, Europe, and Asia, this role is responsible for ensuring all licensing, security, and safety is managed across all London sites with occasional support for Brighton and Manchester Soho House businesses. As a subject matter expert, you will improve member experience by upholding the highest standards of performance and behaviour for site security teams, continuously work towards making members feel safe and secure whilst in our sites, and ensure our employees are safe and secure whilst in their place of work. The role will positively drive and improve security and safety culture, leading by example. Key Accountabilities.. * Act as the main point of contact and lead on all security, licensing and noise incident investigations, and help manage incidents where required including investigations and gathering of relevant information. * Annually update security and licensing policies, procedures, and risk assessments to mitigate risk, maintain business continuity and standards, and protect business reputation. * Support sites to manage CCTV and alarm maintenance and contracts, oversee CCTV projects in line with business needs, and lead on remedial infrastructure works and improvements through site surveys. * Act as the main point of contact for liaising with police, licensing authorities, and noise nuisance enforcement officers, and address any enquiries or complaints. * Advise and oversee security needs and manned guarding operational management, for the year-round business and events for sites and CWH where needed, to ensure security needs are fulfilled and Soho House standards are maintained. * Support events and late-night operations ensuring member and guest experience, as well as acting lead security for high-profile events and new site openings. * Deliver regular training to management, event and operational teams on licensing requirements, capacities, incident management, escalation and reporting, responsible service of alcohol, Challenge 25, WAVE and conflict management. * Prepare for and lead on upcoming Martyn’s Law requirement of counter terror risk assessments for all UK sites. Experience required.. * Significant practical experience of problem-solving security and safety issues in a dynamic/diverse environment. * Be self-aware, an excellent listener, team player, collaborator, and communicator. * Have experience with influencing senior leaders, external stakeholders and government authorities. * Evidence of strong interpersonal skills in order to establish credibility with colleagues and senior management and to foster effective working relations with a wide range of senior internal, client and external contacts * Be comfortable with risk and in working in ambiguous situations. * Be flexible and willing to meet the demands of a 24-hour/7 days a week operation.
