We’re now looking for a Staff Software Developer to join the IntelliJ Platform team and help us deliver features and improvements that redefine what it means to be productive. IN THIS ROLE, YOU WILL: * Drive the plugin development ecosystem (internal and external) for both remote development and UI tooling by defining clear, minimal APIs, drafting documentation, and shaping the team’s definition of done. * Re-architect several core subsystems to meet modern needs, including by making settings flexible and portable across machines (for remote or dev-provisioned environments). * Organize and implement processes related to the deprecation cycle for the IntelliJ Platform API. The Python Ecosystem team builds PyCharm – one of the most popular Python IDEs in the world – along with the Python plugin for IntelliJ IDEA. As AI changes how developers write, debug, and ship code, we’re making our Python tools AI-native. We’re looking for an AI Lead to drive this effort by shaping the architecture, building key components hands-on, and guiding the team in making strong decisions around AI-powered product development.   In this role, you will: * Lead the technical design of AI features in PyCharm and our Python tooling, including MCP integrations, agent workflows, tool design, and context management. * Prototype and ship features yourself – this is a hands-on technical leadership role. * Help the team adopt AI technologies effectively by providing technical guidance, reviewing approaches, and sharing practical patterns. * Evaluate emerging AI tools, frameworks, and providers, and make pragmatic decisions about what to build and what to integrate. * Work closely with product managers, ML engineers, QA specialists, and senior developers to turn product ideas into solid technical plans. * Navigate a large Kotlin/Java codebase and expose IntelliJ Platform capabilities – such as code analysis, inspections, refactorings, and type inference – to AI-powered workflows. * Contribute to cross-team AI efforts and help define shared engineering patterns where appropriate.   We’d love to talk to you if you have: * Strong software engineering experience, particularly in Python and/or Kotlin/JVM. * Deep, hands-on familiarity with modern AI tooling for developers, including coding assistants, agents, MCP, and LLM-based workflows. * Experience working in large, mature codebases and delivering meaningful technical change without compromising quality. * Familiarity with LLM evaluation and benchmarking. * A track record of making good technical decisions in fast-moving, ambiguous areas like proposing architectures, building prototypes, and iterating based on feedback. * Strong communication skills and the ability to influence technical direction without formal authority. * A strong product sense and care about solving real user problems, not just building interesting technology.   Nice to have: * Experience with IDE or developer tooling internals, such as language servers, code analysis, or related systems. * Experience with the Python AI/ML ecosystem.   Why join JetBrains?  * Strong base salary. Microsoft estimates there are 7M+ monthly active .NET developers worldwide. Our tools – Rider, ReSharper, and various profilers – reach roughly half of them. These users are experts with strong habits and strong opinions. They know exactly how they want to work – which makes them one of the hardest audiences to design for, and one of the most rewarding. Your craft really matters here. We’re looking for a product designer to own end-to-end experiences across the .NET ecosystem. You’ll partner with engineers and product managers who treat design as a strategic input, not a final polish step, and you’ll ship work that developers use every single day. You’ll move across products rather than specializing in one, which means holding complexity in your head and making decisions that work across contexts. You’ll also coordinate with the broader IntelliJ Platform design team – JetBrains builds IDEs across dozens of languages, and ecosystem coherence matters.  WHAT YOU’LL WORK ON The .NET ecosystem includes: * Rider – a cross-platform .NET IDE competing with Visual Studio. * ReSharper – the Visual Studio extension that started it all. * Profilers – performance and memory analysis tools (dotTrace and dotMemory). * VS Code extensions – lightweight tooling for broader reach. * Cross-product experiences – onboarding, licensing, AI integration, and discoverability. You’ll work on whatever needs design attention, which shifts based on priorities. Recent examples include: designing an overlay system that gives ReSharper its own identity inside Visual Studio without adding clutter, integrating AI assistance into GameDev workflows where context matters enormously, and making monitoring tools feel like part of the IDE rather than separate expert software. Expect variety and sophisticated challenges. WHAT YOU’LL DO: * Own the design process from early research through shipped pixels –not just the middle part. * Work across multiple products while maintaining ecosystem coherence. * Partner with product managers, engineers, and researchers to shape product direction (you’ll have a seat at the table, not just a chair in the corner). * Conduct and participate in user research: interviews, usability testing, and design validation. * Build in Figma – fast, organized, with prototypes that actually communicate intent. * Navigate complex technical domains and translate them into clear, usable experiences. * Contribute to design system, and pattern documentation. * Present and defend your design decisions to stakeholders and leadership. ABOUT THE TEAM: You’ll join a small design team (currently 3 people, including the lead) embedded in the .NET ecosystem. We’re building out our practices – prioritization frameworks, intake systems, and research processes – so you’ll shape how we work, not just what we ship. The broader .NET organization includes product managers, engineers, QA, researchers, marketing managers, and technical writers across multiple products. Design partners with all of them. Here’s the thing: The engineers building these tools are also .NET developers – they’re your users. You’ll sit alongside the people whose workflows you’re designing for. That’s one of the rarest feedback loops in product design, and it changes how you work. WHY THIS ROLE: * Your users are experts. Developers are the most demanding audience – and the most rewarding.
