SumUp builds financial solutions for millions of small businesses worldwide. Our Identity Lifecycle mission powers the systems
that determine who can access those solutions, ensuring every merchant we onboard is verified accurately, compliantly, and at
scale.
As Engineering Manager for Verification, you will lead the squad responsible for identity checks across all of SumUp's markets.
This is a high-impact opportunity to guide a team running high-stakes workstreams across KYC and a wide range of regulatory
environments, in a domain that is both technically complex and central to the customer journey. You will help bring clarity,
stability, and momentum to a complex domain, supporting the evolution of legacy-heavy systems into a platform that is increasingly
observable, maintainable, and resilient in the face of a fast-changing regulatory landscape. The role calls for strong technical
depth and sound engineering judgment, enabling you to lead delivery with confidence while shaping the architecture decisions that
will define how verification works at SumUp for years to come.
You will work closely with Product, Compliance, and Operations to ensure solutions are practical, safe, and scalable, with
regulatory requirements considered early and effectively throughout the development process. At the same time, you will create the
conditions for engineers to do their best work by providing direction, support, and space for ownership. Together, you will raise
the bar for how verification systems are designed, built, and operated at SumUp.

ABOUT US STARK is a new kind of defence technology company revolutionising the way autonomous systems are deployed across multiple domains. We design, develop, and manufacture high-performance unmanned systems that are software-defined, mass-scalable, and cost-effective — providing operators with a decisive edge in contested environments. We are focused on delivering deployable, high-performance systems — not future promises. In a time of rising threats, STARK is bolstering the technological edge of NATO Allies and their Partners to deter aggression and defend Europe, today. YOUR MISSION STARK's autonomous platforms — aerial and maritime — operate in contested, high-stakes environments where safety systems must function without exception. As Product Manager for Safety-Critical Systems, you will own the requirements engineering, roadmap and delivery of the systems that make that guarantee possible: from Flight Termination Systems on our UAVs to fire suppression and recovery on our USVs. This is a hands-on, high-accountability role at the intersection of systems engineering, software engineering and cybersecurity, and the foundation of trust that enables everything STARK ships. RESPONSIBILITIES * Own the requirements engineering, roadmap and delivery for all safety-critical systems across STARK's UAV and USV platforms * Lead product-level contributions to Functional Hazard Analyses (FHA) and Fault Tree Analyses (FTA), translating identified risks into concrete product requirements * Serve as the product bridge between cybersecurity and safety engineering * Champion a "Digital Thread" for safety: end-to-end traceability from high-level system safety requirements through development, verification, and post-mission analysis * Define architectures that are mass-scalable and cost-effective — not bespoke, one-off solutions — enabling STARK to deploy safe autonomous systems at scale * Collaborate with systems engineers, system safety engineers, certification leads, and executive stakeholders to drive design decisions and communicate risk clearly * Drive the company's "Digital-First Safety" posture, ensuring compliance with applicable standards (e.g. SIL-2/3, DO-178C, IEC 61508) while maintaining architectural resilience against emerging threats. * Shape STARK's approach to safe agentic autonomy — ensuring increasingly autonomous behaviour remains deterministic and verifiable QUALIFICATIONS * Degree (B.Sc. or M.Sc.) in Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related technical discipline * Proven track record as a Product Manager, Product Owner, or Systems Engineer delivering complex hardware/software systems under rigorous safety or regulatory standards * Deep working knowledge of safety standards and methodologies, e.g. IEC 61508, DO-178C, DO-254, ISO 26262, FHA, FTA * Experience taking a hardware/software product from concept through certification and into field deployment * Technical fluency in safety architecture concepts: redundancy topologies, dissimilar architectures, real-time operating systems * Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional delivery activities and drive decisions in ambiguous, high-stakes technical environments * Eligible to obtain appropriate security clearance for defence work NICE TO HAVE * Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and standards such as MOSA or FACE * Background in cybersecurity — particularly in understanding how offensive threat models translate into safety requirements * Familiarity with autonomous systems or UAV/USV platforms * Experience in a scaling defence-tech or aerospace startup environment If you're interested in building the future of European Defence with us, and you see yourself reflected on the description above, please send us your CV in English. We´re looking forward to meeting you!
ABOUT US STARK is a new kind of defence technology company revolutionizing the way autonomous systems are deployed across multiple domains. We design, develop and manufacture high-performance unmanned systems that are software-defined, mass-scalable, and cost-effective. This provides our operators with a decisive edge in highly contested environments. We’re focused on delivering deployable, high-performance systems - not future promises. In a time of rising threats, STARK is bolstering the technological edge of NATO Allies and their Partners to deter aggression and defend Europe - today. YOUR MISSION You will own the product roadmap for a set of capability teams working at the heart of STARK's autonomous systems programme, translating complex engineering realities into a coherent, prioritised path to operational impact. Sitting within the UxV Control organisation and reporting to the Head of Product Management, you will be the connective tissue between technical delivery teams and the wider programme, ensuring that what gets built, gets built in the right order, to the right standard, and for the right reasons. This is a role for someone who understands the physics and engineering behind what they're shaping, not just the process around it. RESPONSIBILITIES * Own and maintain the product roadmap across your capability teams, balancing technical dependencies, programme milestones, and stakeholder priorities * Lead sprint planning, backlog refinement, and PI planning cycles in close partnership with engineering leads * Translate operational requirements and customer inputs into well-defined epics, features, and user stories with clear acceptance criteria * Act as the primary interface between your capability teams and cross-functional stakeholders, including systems engineering, integration, and programme management * Drive trade-off decisions across scope, schedule, and technical risk, escalating clearly when alignment is needed above team level * Monitor and communicate team delivery health, surfacing blockers early and working with engineering leads to resolve them * Represent your capability domain in programme-level reviews, contributing to integrated roadmap planning across UxV Control * Contribute to definition of done and quality standards for software and firmware deliverables in a safety- and mission-critical context QUALIFICATIONS * 6+ years of experience in a technical product, systems, or engineering role, with a minimum of 3 years in a Product Manager or Product Owner capacity * Strong working knowledge of autonomous systems, flight dynamics, or guidance and control, sufficient to interrogate technical decisions and earn credibility with engineering teams * Proven experience managing product backlogs and roadmaps in an agile or scaled-agile environment (SAFe, LeSS, or equivalent) * Demonstrated ability to work across hardware and software delivery teams, ideally in a deeply interdependent systems context following the V-model * Comfortable operating in an environment where requirements evolve, ambiguity is normal, and pace is high * Fluent in English; German is a plus but not required NICE TO HAVE * Background in aerospace, defence, or robotics — either industry or academic * Familiarity with certification or verification frameworks relevant to autonomous or safety-critical systems (e.g. DO-178C, ARP4754) * Experience working in a dual-use or export-controlled technology environment * Exposure to model-based systems engineering (MBSE) or SysML at the requirements level If you're interested in building the future of European defence with us and you see yourself reflected in the description above, please send us your CV in English.
