THE DIFFERENCE YOU WILL MAKE As a Senior Frontend Engineer, you will build and maintain the frontend for our Quality Platform and tools - the paved path that gives Airbnb engineers streamlined access to our agentic testing platform. Your primary objective will be to make complex testing and automation workflows simple to understand and effortless to act on, so engineers can validate and ship high-quality software with confidence. In this role, you will: * Own the Quality Platform frontend: Design, build, and maintain the web surfaces that expose our agentic testing capabilities to engineers across Airbnb. * Make the agentic platform accessible: Translate sophisticated, AI-driven testing workflows into clean, intuitive interfaces that reduce friction and accelerate feedback loops. * Improve developer and QE productivity: Identify UX bottlenecks in how engineers discover, run, and interpret tests, and solve them with thoughtful, well-built frontends. * Partner across the stack: Work closely with backend, infrastructure, and applied-AI engineers to surface platform capabilities in the product in a coherent, scalable way. A TYPICAL DAY * Collaborate with the Quality Platform, Mobile Infrastructure, Product Engineering, and Quality Engineering teams to design and develop high-quality UX. * Build and maintain web UI surfaces that give engineers streamlined access to the agentic testing platform - from running and orchestrating tests to exploring results, coverage, and insights. * Be an active contributor by creating high-quality, tested pull requests and reviewing others' designs and code. * Build appropriate tests to ensure the reliability and performance of the software you create. * Create and present your own design, product, and architecture documents, and provide feedback on others'. * Visualize large amounts of data - test suites, test cases, test runs, test results, coverage, run history - in a clean, concise, and actionable fashion. * Stay up-to-date with the latest trends and best practices in web development and performance engineering, and partner with applied-AI work where the UI exposes agentic capabilities. * Do all this in an opinionated fashion, with humility and curiosity, as we are our own product managers. YOUR EXPERTISE * 5+ years of industry engineering experience. * Fluency in HTML, CSS, TypeScript, React, and related web technologies. * Experience with modern JavaScript libraries and tooling (e.g. React, npm, webpack). * Experience building internal tooling or developer-facing UX, ideally for platforms, infrastructure, or developer/quality tooling. * Expertise in visualizing large amounts of data in a clean, concise fashion. * Context around Quality Engineering, testing, or automation tooling is helpful but not strictly necessary - curiosity and willingness to learn the domain matter more. * Interest in or hands-on exposure to Applied AI / LLM-based systems is a plus, as you'll be building the surfaces for an agentic platform. * Solid engineering and coding skills, with demonstrated knowledge of practical data structures and asynchronous programming. * Strong collaboration with colleagues across multiple timezones. * Strong communication and organizational skills. * Ability to work in areas outside of your usual comfort zone and show motivation for personal growth without a dedicated product manager. You will design systems that apply AI directly to the testing lifecycle, helping developers and quality engineers build, validate, and ship high-quality software at scale. In this role, you will: * Build AI Agents for the Testing Lifecycle: Design and implement AI agents that support developers and quality engineers across the testing lifecycle — from test case generation and evolution to automation and maintaining test coverage as the codebase changes. * Advance AI-Native Quality: Move beyond traditional automation by building systems that continuously adapt test coverage based on code changes and system behavior. * Improve Developer and QE Productivity: Identify bottlenecks in testing and CI/CD workflows, and solve them through intelligent automation that reduces manual effort and accelerates feedback loops. * Integrate AI into Engineering Workflows: Embed AI capabilities into real development environments, enabling both developers and quality engineers to receive contextual, actionable insights during development and testing. A Typical Day: * Hands-on Development: Build end-to-end systems and tools (TypeScript, Swift, Kotlin, Java, Python) that will power Airbnb’s AI quality platform. This includes services, developer tooling, and UI surfaces that integrate AI into testing frameworks/infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, and everyday developer workflows. * Applied AI: Develop AI-assisted capabilities such as context-aware agentic E2E validation on pull requests, agentic execution of business-critical flows as quality gates, agentic surface discovery and exploratory testing, and systems for test case generation, and coverage maintenance. * System Design: Participate in the design of scalable AI-driven systems operating within large-scale engineering environments. * Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with Mobile, Infrastructure, Product Engineering, and Quality Engineering teams to integrate AI into real-world development workflows. * Experimentation & Iteration: Explore approaches such as prompt engineering and RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) to improve system effectiveness and adaptability. * Mentorship: Provide technical guidance and help raise the bar for applying AI in engineering systems across the team. Your Expertise: * Experience: 5+ years of software engineering experience in high-scale environments, ideally building platforms, infra, or developer/quality tooling, with exposure to or strong interest in AI/ML or LLM-based systems. * Quality / DexEx/ Tooling Systems : Experience with testing frameworks, CI/CD pipelines, developer experience tooling, or quality engineering platforms. * Applied AI / LLMs: Hands-on experience building applications using LLMs (prompting, APIs, RAG, evaluation, or similar) is a strong plus. * Fullstack & Platform Engineering: Experience building both client and server-side systems. You can work on modern web/mobile stacks(Swift, Kotlin) and tooling, as well as the supporting backend services (Java, Python). * Systems Thinking: Understanding of distributed systems, CI/CD workflows, and large-scale software architectures. * Problem Solving: Ability to navigate ambiguity and design practical, scalable solutions. * Communication: Strong ability to collaborate across teams and explain complex concepts clearly. The Community You Will Join: We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our Site Reliability Engineering team. As a Senior Software Engineer in Production SRE, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining the tools and systems that enable our engineering teams to operate our services reliably and at scale. You will work closely with our SREs and other engineering teams to ensure our services are properly instrumented and able to scale with our growing business. By collaborating closely with other engineering teams you will help establish a culture of reliability throughout the organization by providing a comprehensive incident management platform that is being used for instrumentation, operability, and around incidents. Your ability to identify opportunities for improvement and drive their implementation will contribute significantly to our overall operational efficiency and growth, ensuring that our services remain resilient as our business continues to expand. Additionally, as an essential part of this role, you will serve as an active member of the Production SRE team, responding to and managing high severity incidents. Your vast technical experience and leadership skills will be invaluable as you step into the role of Incident Commander during these critical events. You will guide cross-functional teams during crisis situations and ensure timely resolution, minimizing the impact on our customers and business. This aspect of your work will require not just strong technical acumen, but also excellent communication and coordination skills, resilience under pressure, and a firm commitment to our culture of blamelessness and continuous learning. A Typical Day:  * Design, implement and maintain the tools and systems that support service reliability, monitoring, and alerting. * Collaborate with other engineering teams to ensure services are designed with reliability in mind, and provide guidance on the appropriate use of tooling and automation. * Identify opportunities to improve the reliability, scalability, and efficiency of our services and drive their implementation. * Work with infrastructure engineers to understand the challenges they face in operating our services and develop tools and systems to help them manage these challenges. * Participate in incident response and post-mortems to identify and address systemic issues. * Continuously evaluate new technologies and industry best practices to improve our SRE tooling and incident response procedures. * Gain and maintain an intimate understanding of how the critical parts of the site work (services, infrastructure, product, tools, and processes) * Lead high-urgency incidents and mentor less-experienced engineers in effectively handling incidents.
